I'll say what I said in the launch party thread (because I thought that thread was this one...):

This is going to be a fun month and what a great OP @Irene !

this is why I shouldn't post before caffeine[/spoiler]

Should be a fun time of the year, even if I'll be buried in backlog for most of the rest of 2023

You and me both. Was thinking yesterday how nice it may feel to spend most of the year just luxuriating in TotK or getting back to games I feel like I have "unfinished business" with. Or even hitting the "wine cellar" and popping open something for the first time like Final Fantasy X or making another go at Xenoblade Chronicles.

Dam its a new month already.. wait what do you mean we are already 5 months into 2023... WAIT TOTK IS THIS MONTH AAAAAAAA

(great thread op!!)

Avalanche and bruins gone in the same night wtf

Still beaming Leafs are in round 2
The Bruins? The very same Bruins of Boston who had a historically great regular season?

I wish I had watched now, if only to hear the stunned silence of the Boston "faithful". I could bottle up that silence and drink it and never be thirsty again.

New ST, new month, new Zelda game, we are in for some fun times!

Boston sports fans are insufferable. The funny thing is that Boston.com spilled less ink about the loss than any time the Patriots lose (which always looks like Armageddon is nigh).

Happy new thread-mas, everybody!

I would like to take this opportunity to bring up a discussion which started at the end of the previous thread: the new Direct Speculation thread. To briefly summarize, @Raccoon has expressed interest in posting a new thread on May 15th, and @LukasManak22 suggested that perhaps it should rotate like these General Discussion threads do.

I definitely appreciate Lukas' point here; rotating the general discussion threads and having new OPs is great, and it allows each thread to kind of have its own little twist and personality. To be honest, we could probably do more to encourage new people to have a go with these threads -- there are plenty of regular users I'd love to see have a go -- and actually in my opinion we should only really be allowing repeat hosts when the well of fresh blood has truly dried up.

However, I see the Direct Speculation threads differently. To be blunt, I don't think most people would make for a good speculation thread host. You have to be pretty invested in the speculation game, while at the same time not taking it too seriously. You'd ideally be up to date with the latest rumors and insider whisperings, but you can't take them as gospel, and nor can you dismiss them out of hand. You need to find some way to differentiate the thread from the General Discussion thread, but the thread's identity can't just be people asking when the next Direct will be. I know I'd be bad at this. So bad. Please never let me host a Direct thread.

So while I'm certainly not opposed to Lukas' suggestion, I don't think this should be a case of "whoever volunteers first who is not Raccoon or Lukas gets it". Maybe we want to allow a couple of days for others (if there are others) to volunteer, then if there are candidates other than Raccoon, we can vote as a community? Just one suggestion of course.

Oh man, it looks like Redfall released a few hours early in New Zealand. People were switching their locations to downplay and play it early. It seems like Microsoft/Bethesda found out and switched the severs off and because it's always online, no can play now.

As a Coloradan, I understand this sensation well. The Avalanche won the Stanley Cup last year and the Nuggets may well win the NBA Finals this year, but you can bet that most of the locals are still fixated on the Broncos' prospects this season.

These really are gonna be the slowest 11 days of my life huh? What are you guys doing to pass the time?
Watching blind playthroughs of Breath of the Wild haha. And also find an opening in my schedule to watch Mario finally.

very sad news today

Nintendo will probably still work with him a ton. Like a Sakurai situation.

Coldplay gets a lot of hate for some reason
Probably cuz they're popular. So they also get proportionally more haters.

To which I need to root against Denver again since they traded us a third round pick next year. Sorry but the Russ curse must continue.

Coldplay gets a lot of hate for some reason, but their concerts are an incredible experience and they let CHVRCHES (my favorite band) open for them, so they're cool.
I like old Coldplay better myself, but they do put on a great show. It’s a true experience.

Sort of like nickleback getting all that hate years ago. Like, you don’t have to like them, but it’s pretty innocuous if they aren’t abjectly terrible people.

Since I wasn't born here, I get equal amounts of joy from the Broncos win or lose. The winning is fun, and the losing is hilarious.

(though I do hate the Hawks sooooo...)

Speaking of. I only claimed September as a joke. Will keep it though if no new OP wants to do it. Do like the idea of a new person each month as long as we can.

I have no talent for web design but found it fun! I think new people would enjoy it.

Yeah, I saw them about a year ago (good lord what is time), and it was a fantastic show. Fireworks, lazers, a muppet band, the whole shebang.

Also fantastic ST @Irene!

pro-tip: the ignore thread feature exists. If anyone else like me is afraid of accidentally clicking into a TotK spoiler thread, this is a good preventative measure!

Oh right new thread time
Won’t lie at half off I’m tempted to get warriors Orochi 3 ultimate on my series s for nostaglia sake. Then again I have other warriors games to finish.
I also need to see if I can finish Nier replicant and XBC3 FR before Zelda

Also why U2 gets a lot of hate 😂
I think Coldplay hate is mostly reactionary - the hate seems to mostly come from a place of "this thing I don't like is popular".

U2 certainly has some of that as well, although I think in the case of U2 it also comes from two other sources: people disliking Bono, and that "automatically put their latest album on everyone's iTunes" stunt they pulled a decade or so back

I agree with this.

Also, for what it's worth, a Raccoon That Wants To Do It is my ideal candidate for hosting the direct speculation thread. He helps bring some of the most joy and excitement to this site with his enthusiasm and clever humor.

well gosh thanks

I'm excited to do it if the site will have me

I'm doing my best to avoid Zelda spoilers by diving deep into completely unrequested but extremely welcome QoL features for my game, including a quick spell menu that pops up instantly and sorts by most used spells, an option to skip cutscenes but with a prompt to prevent accidental skippification, and a huge list of difficulty modifiers that will take me ages to implement but will be worthwhile!

Y'all I can't believe we're in the month that Tears of the Kingdom is releasing. Feels like a dream.

Also happy worker's day everyone!!

Depends. Where do you side with on the Paper Mario divide? Depending on your answer, someone might challenge you to a choreographed dance off in the streets.
I like Paper Mario.

I played Super on the Wii (never finished it) and Origami King (never finished it).

Therefore, I cannot form a better opinion other than: I like Paper Mario.

🫣

TOTK leak? Must be May.

It will be a while before we learn everything from the leak anyway, but I’ll probably avoid spoilers regardless this close to release.

Yeah, I also agree that new hosts every month should be optimal. I personally had a bit of a last-minute hesitation with this thread because of thinking about it. If anyone feels like I’m overstretching by being our first repeat host, I apologise.

I didn't intend what I said as a dig at either of you, or at @EvilChameleon who hosted two back-to-back (IIRC that was mostly because no one else volunteered). We've never formalized rules for hosting the General Discussion ST. I was just giving my opinion, particularly within the context of how I don't feel the same way about the speculation threads.

I can’t believe in 13 days I can finally start hyping up Wind Waker on switch again
