StarTopic Metroid Prime Remastered |ST| Prime Prophecy Fulfilled

The button layout for motion controls and hybrid/dual sticks with gyro feels off. Part of it is that the Wiimote was just a great ergonomic design, of course. And maybe I could get used to the GameCube classic controls again, but I think I'm just too used to dual analog controls now. So dual analog controls are what I've settled on.

Was Prime this dark on GCN with a CRT? I'm getting old, sure, but I didn't have much trouble seeing things on the original hardware, even with a CRT far smaller than my current HDTVs.

Dual sticks and set Camera to Gyro + Stick. It’s perfect.

Phendrana looks great. Always been my least fave area but here it looks Skyrim good.

Shadows are super dark

So, if this is how Prime looks like, I can’t imagine how good Prime 4 is going to look 👀
I’m legitimately in awe of how this game looks sometimes. I don’t understand how a remaster of a 20 year old game looks this freaking good.

Back in the day, seeing Prime 1-3 running on Gamecube and Wii felt the same way.
It tickles my nerdish soul to see the series' legacy of squeezing magic from Nintendo hardware continue.

I've started playing. This game looks so dang good! I'm amazed.

Prime 2 needs a remaster to make the dark worlds playable.

Prime 3 needs it because skytown would make my eyes melt away from its beauty

Game looks great. It’s super fun to play with classic controls. Makes me miss the days when every game didn’t control exactly the same. Gives everything a unique feel to it.

Also, despite how good it looks there’s still a lot of “GameCube” in it. Which is cool because it makes me excited for prime 4. Since it should basically be this, but better.

Prime 2 needs a remaster so people can finally it's the best game in the series and wanting to change things about it is cowardice.

Yeah, great point. MPR is still very much a 2002 game. Im excited when thinking what Retro will do with a game with modern design and a much larger budget.

Rapid Fire Missile Trick
For those unaware: there's a highly useful rapid fire missile trick that's been a thing since the GameCube version. Yes, it still works in the remaster, and it's awesome (first five are normal speed, rest are fired off using the trick):

All you do is fire a missile, press the beam button to quickly exit out of missile mode, then fire another missile. It's extremely useful in combat, and very fun.

If they do remaster Prime 2, I wonder if they would keep the multiplayer. I just want to see Sanctuary Fortress in all it's glory. Bummer that rumors suggest it would likely just be an uprez though.

This is how samus looks in MPR, everyone.
SPOILER-DK-DK.jpg
Personally i am positively shocked. I thought retro would cave in and just do another anime girl but they didn't! Of course, this samus isnt as realistic as the original prime one but i think this one is way more appropriate too! Its not the realism that matters to me but the artstyle, the face retro did in mp3 and samus's face in other m didn't fit her.

She looks very realistically cartoony here, almost like a ps4 protagonist like one person in the MCD server said. My favorite Samus, so far.

Zero Suit Samus is an annoyance. So glad she looks like a human here! Still not sure how she gets all that eyeliner on though xD.

Played a bit more yesterday night. It's real good! Despite movement being a bit sluggish the pacing is snappy - the scale of the areas is quite compact so progression is quick and no-nonsense. They convey the feeling of having intimate contact with the game environment extremely well - not sure how they pulled that off. I finally understand why folks have been banging on about "just you and the alien planet" for so long =P .

Very happy for you old-school Metroid fans! Personally, as a newcomer since Dread, I'm really liking this and might be catching the Metroid bug =P .

This reminds me of how they purposefully kept in certain glitches in Ocarina of Time 3D for the sake of old players. Pretty surprised to see them take that approach again, but I'm not complaining.

It says "recording to logbook" immediately after the scan is complete, which is when it'd be recorded. It makes sense.
But it's already recorded at that point. It's instantaneous as soon as the scan is finished. And the text box that pops up at the exact same time says "A new [] entry has been downloaded to your log book." So it's not just incorrect, but contradicting itself by using the past tense at the same time! The recording happens when you scan it, not when you finish scanning it.

Finally played a bit of this last evening. And i only listened to the Start screen music for 10 minutes before actually playing!

Man, it's still a great game. Good gameplay systems and loops really make a game immortal.

What kind of forbidden magic do I need to perform to get Echoes and Corruption redone like this?

It's called Wallet Summoning. But you can't do it alone, you gotta hope that a lot of people do it.

Though, i don't think this is going to be a problem. ;D

If it helps, I've always taken it as it is still recording and sorting the information in the background until I hit the accept button and the whole process is not really done until I hit that button. So like it has the info downloaded sure, but it's not moving onto the next step where it figures out how to present the info it has scanned and has truly updated the log book until I hit that button.

Still manifesting similar level Prime 2 and Prime 3 remasters by saying that the 16/17 month gap between this game finishing development and its release was to give Iron Galaxy and Co a headstart on Prime 2 and 3 Remastered, as well as to bring us closer to Prime 4's completion.

Anyway, I'm a couple of hours in and need to go get my suit off of that dangerous plant. Looking forward to playing more later today.

I'm living through all of you posting here until my copy ships from Best Buy. If every retailer ships it out early like Amazon, hopefully Best Buy decides to ship them out.

In a weird spot where I'm eager to get my hands on this, but I also just played this game in November so I'm not like that anxious either lol. In some ways, it's kind of more annoying straddling both camps lol.

I can't believe this actually dropped. I'm going to go physical and wait for a few weeks (I just finished Zero Mission and will be getting Like a Dragon: Ishin in February) but I am so psyched. It looks amazing, too.

This set a pretty have bar and unless Prime 4 is cross gen how are they going to squeeze 1080p 60fps ?

I assume remaster isn't pushing Switch quite to the max so thry ca push it plus maybe 720 to 900p dynamic with some sort of FSR upscaling would help it push more complexity at 60fps. Don't know if I want a 30fps Prime 4
Retro Studios simply does not do 30fps.

While this wasn't as insane as the Dread reveal, it's pretty incredible how this announcement still got such a reaction.
would have been just as insane if we hadn't had like 4-5 years of "insiders" spouting off about this

How is this only $40? NUTS. This should've been 60 and Dread should've been 40

What nonsense is this, I thought we were way past the age of silly things like 2D games have less value.

Metroid dread cost a ton more to make than a remaster, for incredibly obvious reasons.

Even of they have no plans for Prime 2 and 3 selling Prime 1 have to be seen in the constet of the Trilogy itslef

Probably even Nintendo tought that Trilogy at full price vs Prime 1 Full price was a bit too much

I strongly believe Nintendo intends to release 2 and 3 before 4 so they can have the whole trilogy available before the new one. I could see them releasing together for 30 dollars each a month before 4 or so.

Even in case is Holiday 2024, is still to much Metroid, there is no precedent of this with any other Nintendo series
There's also no precedent for Nintendo dropping a HD remaster the day they announce it and launching it at a lower price point. There could be any number of explanations for that so I'm not ruling things out at this point.

+1 for a gamma slider. Some rooms are pitch black dark. Which is especially dark on OLED screens.
I was loving this yesterday evening on my 48 inch OLED, but this morning with a little bit of sunlight - no bueno.

Oh, also: minimal HUD option with just health and maybe missile count!

I don't think Nintendo really cares about getting people fully caught up. They had absolutely no concern with making Metroid 1-4 easily available before Dread. I think Prime remaster is just a way to introduce new fans to the subseries, and to remind old fans of how great it is. They could easily do a text monologue at the beginning of Prime 4 summarizing the events of the series up till then.

After Prime remastered, I don't think it would be a wise move to release 2 and 3 with just an uprez. People would be disappointed if they didn't meet the quality of the first game. And judging by the fact that hundreds of people across multiple companies worked on Prime 1R, that's A LOT of investment into two more large scale remasters. Especially Prime 3, which has by far the most unique assets of the whole trilogy.

... Not quite unprecedented, but the franchise I'm thinking of is an argument as to why they don't do it any more, haha.

F-Zero got 4 games over about 16 months, with GX,AX,Climax and Gp legend, but it also buried the franchise!

Metroid Dread is fantastic and it being 2D doesn't devalue it.

Games should be cheaper but there's no reason a game like Dread should be cheaper than a remake.

I would love for Prime 2 to be remastered like they did here because it's my favorite Prime game but I think Nate predicting Prime 4 will be released before March 2024 is an educated guess and development could be almost finished. If so, then I could see Prime 4 being re-revealed in June and leaving little room for the other remasters.
