StarTopic Metroid Prime Remastered |ST| Prime Prophecy Fulfilled

Yeah it was weird sticking this in a Direct headline, and I already think headlines kind of 'spoil' what they're about to reveal since it's just a standard title card before the actual reveal.

Like everytime the Direct faded to black I was expecting Prime. And then it shows up randomly near the end and my heart starts fluttering. Like what the hell
Yeah, don't know why they didn't do it in Layton style. You know what it is. But the headline was probably to make it somewhat quick and move on, to don't have Takahashi talk about what's with Prime 4 again.

It's a shame this came a bit too late for me. I ended up just replaying the GC original a few months back because I couldn't stand the wait. Cursed by my own impatience.

No doubt when it comes time for another replay this will be the version i play though.

So this remaster is getting absolutely positively received.

Wonder how much it was made a planned to shadow drop it or it just happened that way lol.

Getting #1 on multiple e-shops bolds well for the success of the title. Especially so quickly.

Watching a stream and gotta say, the crashed freighter looks gorgeous in this version.

A remastered GCN game is the best looking game on Switch. Eat it, early aughts discourse!

I’m really struggling with a control scheme that I’m comfortable with. I’ve tried the gyro aiming which feels too fast (no matter the sensitivity), dual stick which feels too slow, a hybrid (just feels shaky). Just jumping around in the initial overworld before I proceed.

I realize a lot of you have played this game before, and that I'm not much into shooters, but I find the HUD really intrusive. I decided to live without the mini map and turn it off entirely (opacity zero, and turn off the helmet) and the effect is pretty incredible. It almost feels like Myst

What are people thinking on the narration? Does it add much to the game's story and such cause, honestly, it feels a bit cheesy going from the opening cutscene.

Just go for dual stick and enables right stick+gyro in camera options. Also, you can change sensitivity in camera turn speed, both stick and gyro.

When using pointer controls is it possible to swap shooting to ZR?
Seems you can only shoot with A

That would make it near perfect…

A little bummed you don’t switch visors like in the trilogy on Wii that’s taking some getting used to

Do you know if this remaster still has the missable scans?

I understand the missable scans for bosses, but for random enemies like Ice Shriekbats? Fuck that.

I just want to know if I need to use a similar list like 20 years ago when I player Metroid Prime on the Gamecube.

Just in case:

1: Parasite (Creature)

#2: Map Station (Research) - There are four of these in the game. Scan them BEFORE you use
them, otherwise there'll be nothing to scan.

#3: Fall of Zebes (Pirate Data) - The only Pirate Data on the Frigate Orpheon, and the only one you can feasibly miss. The name of the room you find it in is "Biohazard Containment".

#4: Parasite Queen (Creature) - The boss of the Frigate. You're encouraged to scan it anyway to find the weak point.

#5: Missile Door Lock (Research) - These are all over the place when you first land on Tallon IV, but they become far more rare later on. Make sure you scan at least one of them, because once you blow them open, they're gone for good.

#6: Hive Mecha (Creature) - This is your first mini-boss on Tallon, specifically the Hive Totem in the Chozo Ruins. It's the thing that makes the
high-pitched noise to release the Ram War Wasps. You DON'T scan the part that turns red. What you need to scan is the part below the water level.

#7: Ram War Wasp (Creature) - In your fight with the Hive Mecha, you should take note of the fact that Wasps you fight are different from standard War Wasps. This is the only place the Rams show up.

#8: Incinerator Drone (Creature) - A mini-boss fought in the Burn Dome.

#9: Barbed War Wasp (Creature) - These Wasps when you fight the Incinerator Drone are also different from the standard War Wasp. Isn't that a pain? Again, this is your only shot.

#10: Flaahgra (Creature) - Like all bosses, there's only one chance.

#11: Flaahgra Tentacle (Creature) - In addition to scanning the main body of Flaahgra, be sure to get the tentacles blocking the holes.

#12: Stalactite (Research) - In Phendrana Drifts and Magmoor Caverns. These ceiling-mounted rock formations cannot be scanned once you drop them to the ground, water, or lava, so be sure to scan one before they're all gone.

#13: Ice Burrower (Creature) - In Phendrana Drifts. Make sure you scan them before getting the Thermal Visor. After that, the place you scan them in will have Sentry Drones instead.

#14: Ice Shriekbat (Creature) - Oddly enough, these guys appear in only one room: Ice Ruins West in Phendrana Drifts, and you must scan them before taking the Thermal Visor, or else they'll disappear from that area.

#15: Ice Parasite (Creature) - They're found in Phendrana Drifts, and the first place you'll see them is the Chozo Ice Temple. After getting the Wave Beam, they disappear from there, but you get another shot at the Frozen Pike later on, after which they'll disappear for good once you get the Gravity Suit.

#16: Thardus (Creature) - Another boss enemy.

#17: Aqua Drone (Creature) - Found in the crashed Frigate Orpheon, in the Biohazard Containment room. After you pass through and enter the Phazon Mines, this enemy will disappear.

#18: Elite Pirate (Creature) - There are only three active ones in the game. The first is in Elite Control, the first time you enter. The second is in
Omega Research after earning Power Bombs. The third is in Dynamo Access after earning the Plasma Beam.

#19: Phazon Elite (Creature) - The only one of these is in Elite Research in the Phazon Mines. Power Bomb the tank to fight it.

#20: Omega Pirate (Creature) - Naturally, you...

#21: Meta Ridley (Creature) - ...only get one...

#22: Metroid Prime (Creature) - ...shot to scan...

#23: (True) Metroid Prime (Creature) - ...these bosses!

Just defeated Flaahgra, and man I LOVE this game so much. I’ve been taking my time with it.. okay, maybe I’ve genuinely gotten lost a couple times, it’s been a looong time. These updates graphics are gorgeous too - I’m finding myself wandering around to enjoy the atmosphere, it’s like that awe moment of playing it for the first time all over again.

Yes, you can remap in Switch settings controls, not in-game, but it works.

Now that I’m familiar with the Metroid formula, I can see that somehow they took 2D Metroid and just… made it 3D.
I’ve always thought of Metroid Prime in the way I think of OoT. Their respective 2D formulas had been perfected on SNES and they both somehow translated that formula to 3D

Due to the shadow drop, this quick ST will be totally barebones at first (I'll flesh it out later!) Just putting out a space for us to discuss the game.

Just in case:

If I missed the first map station, can I get it back at next ones or do they count as individual scans?

Also, as someone who forgets the reward and doesn't want to be spoiled... should I bother getting every scan on my initial playthrough or should I enjoy the ride and revisit later? Basically going in fresh after nearly 15 years (damn!)

They are not unique, scanning a map station scans them all. I would say that scanning is something nice to get a habit of, but none of the 100% scan stuff is that bad of not having (at least in the original, it was mostly art gallery stuff).

Plays well, looks great. The FOV is really small though, makes it hard to parse the environment at speed. Maybe that's alright because it seems to be a more methodical experience compared to an FPS.

Also I kinda wish the music also had received some polish. It's a stark contrast to the visuals, which look very modern. The music sounds like 2001 MIDI (because it is xD).

Now to find out where to save my game!

Honestly I wasn't even really aware it was a thing until yesterday (or if I had hear about it, I'd very much forgotten it).

The opening was cheesy, yeah, but I kinda like it still. It was really jarring to have a voice say "Chozo Ruins" when I loaded my save though, lol.

We've gone from "yo the raindrops fall on your visor" to "yo the raindrops fall onto your arm cannon and slide off in different directions" and in 20 years there isn't a single greater indicator of progress in video games than that.

If we get Prime 2 I want a new key art for it. Going through all the trilogy’s art and I don’t know why Samus is so heavily promoted in the Varia Suit. Put her in the Dark Suit that she’s in for most of the game, and that’s also unique to Prime 2!

Prime 2 is an iterative sequel for sure, but it‘s got a lot of stuff lore-wise and power up wise that makes it unique, ditching lots of Metroid tropes.

Nintendo charges $60 for a Gamecube remaster, people online: "Ridiculous, how dare they charge full price for a remaster of a 20 year old game, typical greedy Nintendo"

Nintendo charges $40 for a Gamecube remaster, people online: "Hmph, you can really see that Nintendo has no confidence in this game or franchise to only be charging $40"

Anyone have a shot of how she looks without the helmet now? Curious to see if they updated her with the more modern ZSS look, or if they kept it closer to the original Prime.
it's a higher poly version of the OG Prime model, the credits are on youtube already (along with full playthroughs)

This game gets HD rumble and Skyward Sword, the one game that would have absolutely benefited from it for its 1:1 swordplay, doesn't.

Of course.

Seen people elsewhere mention dual analogue plus gyro. How? Doesn’t seem to be an option when pausing the game.
Pretty sure I saw this as an option when I went to tune the sensitivity. Not 100% sure where it was, (I didn't turn it on), but it was near the sensitivity options at least.

Hopping in to ask two things before I start my first ever playthrough of Prime tomorrow:

1) For a newcomer to Prime, with no nostalgia or muscle memory for any control scheme, which scheme do we recommend?
2) I have a 65" OLED TV, and an OLED Switch. Can anyone please weigh in on whether docked or handheld is superior? I don't care about resolution or specific specs - which looks better to your eye?

The more of you who help me decide, the better haha. I absolutely can't wait!
