I don’t see why they’d have anything for Splatoon in this Direct other than the first details of the DLC.

I also don’t see why it can’t happen before a Splatfest. I’m not sure why they’d dictate each others timings.

They've had Directs right before a Splatfest before.

Didn't they announce the first post-launch Splatfest during a Direct?

I wonder how they'll stagger MK8DX BCP from XC3 EP. Wave 3 EP is set for before April 30th as the latest, which would put it in the same timeframe as wave 4 BCP. Would be weird if these DLCs were both within like a month of each other

the current splatoon season was announced a little over two weeks before its launch, and notably right after that month's splatfest ended. with the february splatfest taking place from the 10th to 12th, scheduling a direct for the 8th would mean conspicuously leaving splatoon out.

I definitely could see how letting splatoon news stay separate is beneficial though, especially if 3.0 is a low-key update in terms of marketable features
I don't see how having the next splatfest after the Direct would hinder the announcement trailer of the next season in that Direct.
you don't advertise new maps alongside a player event that won't have them.
They'll be available for the next event, it's not going to bother anyone that the new maps for next season will not be playable for the upcoming splatfest.

I can see Advance Wars getting dated in one of those "here's more games coming to Switch this spring". Right balance of getting more eyes on it without making a big deal about it.

Not really? Like four major updates came out in December alone.

Will not be in the next direct, but in a future one?

I hope they won't make mistake of not releasing on Switch at launch. One thing that depresses most in current gaming industry is great niche games not getting the appreciation they deserve due to devs releasing on wrong platforms.

Not announcing the game until very close to release date makes me think it is a Switch game. Recent third party games followed the same pattern (Harvestella for instance).

Mario Kart, Switch Sports, Splatoon 3 season two, Mario Strikers (I think, not sure of that last one).
Mario Kart's the only paid update of those, I don't think they care as much about the relative uptake on the others

The new MonHun Digital Event is one hour after the usual Direct time (22:00 GMT on a Wednesday) 👀

All of the previous MH Digital Events were held at 14:00 GMT iirc
Coincidences? 👀👀
Tbh I’m more and more convinced on the 1st.
As someone who has been a MH fan for a while, I wouldn’t look too much into this. Sure it could be something, but it’s very likely nothing
Capcom always, always, always ask for feedback after their presentations, and then will actively share that feedback “We’ve seen X so we will be doing Y to help fix the issue”. Some of the earlier ones were too long and drawn out, fans told them and they changed their format in later ones. They announced these 2 weeks ahead of schedule, fans said it was too early, so now they announce them later. I wouldn’t be surprised if the time change was simply because they got a lot of feedback wanting it at a different time

I'd say it's a pretty safe bet to expect their next game on Switch after how well 13 Sentinels did as a late port.

The Direct will adhere to Orville Redenbacher theory. OR started a Switch contest 2 days after the last Direct, and the contest ends on February 2nd. I believe Nintendo may show the next Direct 2 days before Feb 2nd, on January 31st. That way, Team January and I can chew delicious OR popcorn as Team February breaks down in shambles.
Favorite variety of Orville popcorn?
Mine is pour over butter. Been getting those for so long, I remember when the bag would become a bowl and it was a 20 step process that confused my parents endlessly.

Is it just me(I haven't played Sunbreak yet) or does this expansion looks like it could've been a standalone MH game? I mean they're releasing a season pass for the expansion, looks wild to me when it's not a Blizzard game lol.

What's the general expectation of what's next to MH? Another Rise expansion? World 2? Rise 2? Both?

Why tho?? It would tank even further the sales of a game that probably won't sell that big anyways. I hope they show a trailer with the release date at least 2 months before, and show more of the game in a way it looks more appealing. Really hoping it does well so the fans can have a sequel eventually.
Yes, normally the MH expansions are larger than the base game, it's great!
I expect MH6 to be next game, it should launch on 2024 on all consoles except Switch, but it should be on Switch 2 IMO

Advance Wars is gonna get the month of marketing, physical and digital release, and likely a demo. They're not gonna just dump it.

Now it's just a question if it's next week or 2 weeks from now. I still think it's the 8th or 9th.
I agree it will definitely be sometime in the next two weeks, but I do have a soft spot for Feb 1st as that will be 100 days until TOTK releases. The timing would be perfect for the first legit trailer and I am hoping that it pans out for the beauty of it.

Eh. I’m sure others will say Sunbreak is amazing, and it is, but to me the new Monster additions felt kind of lacklustre. Siege fights are my Favorite and there’s only one in the game currently. It couldn’t be a standalone game because what they added is essentially harder stuff to already existing hunts. It’s probably the best expansion we’ve had thus far tho, and I’m glad the updates are adding more QOL features and stuff to help with the power creep with each update

As for what’s next, I believe the next main MH game is due out on PS/XB according to the Capcom leak a few years ago. I believe it was targeted for Q2, 2023. But I saw some speculation (conjecture, nothing concrete) that it may be delayed to Q1 2024. Next main series game probably won’t be for switch tho, sadly
