the 1st would be good because of the monster hunter event timing. the 15th would be good because of splatoon. the 8th is pretty much the worst option
The Monster Hunter thing is one hour after Direct, at best these events are done right after Direct ends. If we are talking Splatoon, revealing the new season one week earlier is not a bad thing, how would it be.

[EDIT] Since this is garnering more attention than I thought it would: I would assume the NSUID update would line up with pre-orders as it has with other games, and pre-orders would likely line up with a Direct for TotK. I'm not sure it means one is super imminent - Nintendo could also just make a tweet. [/EDIT]

The Advance Wars 1+2 Reboot Camp and Tears of the Kingdom eShop web pages just popped changes with new NSUIDs attached to both (or, at least, on the Canadian eShop pages).

Credit goes to lbabinz on Twitter for monitoring these pages for changes (he did not post about these changes, they're from a Discord chat).

Tears of the Kingdom previously did not have a NSUID. It now having a NSUID means pre-orders will be going live at some point in the future, potentially in the near future.

I would think it's safe to assume pre-orders opening would line up with a Direct.
Even though I’m not an AW fan, I’m glad to see this news.

it's just unlikely. revealing a new season prematurely will asphyxiate the season as it is now.

if Nintendo were looking at the options of the 8th or the 15th, they had no reason to pick the 8th.

Wait is it one hour after the Direct ends or starts? If it's one hour after the start of the Direct that works out pretty well

I think "World 2" is up next, think it was in the Capcom leaks
A lot might have changed since those leaks. I still think World 2 will be next in MH series but it'll be a smaller scale game to include Switch as one of platforms. MHR's sales performance on just one system was much better than World on PS4 and Xbox One.

I've been so hyped for Advance Wars on Switch, and each delay and each day without word of it releasing has HURT MY SOUL.

Might be overselling my emotions a bit, but it's not been fun even if I understood the reason why it was delayed. D:

if we get a direct on the 8th I'll be wondering why they decided to keep splatoon separate. maybe it goes back to the changing audience and wanting to avoid boring the average switch owner

I don't think that matters that much, by your reasoning they should be revealing the new season like 4 days before the current one ends. There is also Super Nintendo World on 17th I talked about that. Maybe some game shadowdrop tied to that, TotK marketing starting and so on. When we think it does not make sense, I am pretty sure it does for them whatever they do. They have the numbers, they have everything.

One hour after Direct ends. Still don't see it happening and I don't think Nintendo would promote it that much, if it would be that special it would be announced just there for airing immediately after Direct and that's not happening.

I don’t care about FE, but I love hearing about video game development and stuff. So hearing this is so cool. I know insiders were saying this but seeing it come from here just makes it so much more exciting to me.
Idk I’m a weird loser like sometimes I care more about the development of games and what changed and what was scrapped, then actually playing the game LOL

At this point it feels like there could be a Direct in April and some people would be like "you know, I have this feeling that ToTK is going to skip the Direct".

We know the direct will have Advance Wars and TOTK in it. Maybe or maybe not they’ll announce a separate TOTK direct for a later date.

I feel like if they are going to highlight something for Splatoon 3 in the direct it would be whatever the Large-scale Paid DLC is going to be. Like the reveal of the Octo-Expansion in the March 2018 Direct.

Well, with Zelda TOTK now having a proper NSUID... we don't need any insider to have an assurance regarding news coming very soon

[EDIT] According to my bot, changes on NSUID was also made on NOA eShop, México eShop and Brazil eShop for both games
Tbh I think theres still a chance for February 1st. But yeah news should be soon within 2 weeks or so

MH presentation is at midnight CET, don't Directs usually happen at 23? That's one hour after the Direct starts and shortly after it ends depending on how long it is. Or am I wrong with the times?

I think you have too much hopium with Capcom's support on Switch, Rise was pretty much the only BIG game they had planned for the console and it really doesn't feel like they have anything else...

The celebrations around the world will be beautiful when they announce the Direct for January 31.

Gotta love us aussies, games are always up for pre order a day or two after an announcement. I preordered zelda back in 2019.
Game can be preordered in the U.S. but not the special/limited/collector's/deluxe/masters/legends/champions/whatever editions for the game

Nintendo will kick off Zelda advertising using trailers dropped directly to Twitter and YouTube, along with previews sessions for the press.

No Direct until June y'all.

Nah you are right, it would be like 10-20 minutes after Direct. I still don't see it, especially when Sunbreak is already released on Steam.

I wouldn't be surprised if they Twitter drop the Advance Wars announcement around the same time as the Direct, so it gets a little lost in the social media shuffle.

The Direct will adhere to Orville Redenbacher theory. OR started a Switch contest 2 days after the last Direct, and the contest ends on February 2nd. I believe Nintendo may show the next Direct 2 days before Feb 2nd, on January 31st. That way, Team January and I can chew delicious OR popcorn as Team February breaks down in shambles.

Oh damn, thank you for reminding me to enter that contest a few more times.

I sure as hell won't pay for an OLED Switch when I'm saving up for new hardware but I won't say no to winning one for free.

Yeah, I said it earlier in the thread that if anything this makes it less likely for there to be a Direct on the 1st.

Also, I suspect this presentation will give a release date for Sunbreak on PS/XB, which is currently slated for "Spring 2023", so I really doubt Nintendo will promote it in any way.

seriously considering abandoning splatoon theory in favor of orville redenbacher theory

and I can always go back when it's wrong...

Yeah, no prob.

If I'm wrong you can throw popcorn at me

F Splatoon theory they'll literally just play a trailer for the next season and do a reminder for the Splatfest

I was Team February from the start, but I was totally fine with Team January winning. After all, I get a direct early, so I still win.

Now it seems I might win, but my victory is bittersweet. Here's hoping we at least don't lose to March...

What are you talking about?
the current splatoon season was announced a little over two weeks before its launch, and notably right after that month's splatfest ended. with the february splatfest taking place from the 10th to 12th, scheduling a direct for the 8th would mean conspicuously leaving splatoon out.

I definitely could see how letting splatoon news stay separate is beneficial though, especially if 3.0 is a low-key update in terms of marketable features

They will definitely not leave Splatoon out. If it's second week they are showcasing it there. The only one Splatoon season reveal pattern is a nothing to go by imo.
