The Ballad of Team January:

You'll never know how I watched you
From the shadows as a child
You'll never know how it feels to get so close
And be denied
It's a gold and honey trap
I've got for you tonight
Revenge it's a kiss, this time I won't miss
Now I've got you in my sight
With a Goldeneye, golden, goldeneye
With a goldeneye, goldeneye.

First Party N64 Games that we still don't have:

Rare published games that have not yet released on Switch:

If you take out the list of games that are not Sports/Disney licenses (which now include Star Wars)/Tetris (most likely)/Japanese-only releases (not that they couldn't come to NSO; they just won't leave Japan), we're left with:

Banjo Tooie (Rare)
Blast Corps (Rare)
Command & Conquer
Conker's Bad Fur Day (Rare)
Cruis'n USA
Cruis'n World
Diddy Kong Racing (Rare)
Donkey Kong 64 (Rare)
Hey You, Pikachu!
Jet Force Gemini (Rare)
Killer Instinct Gold (Rare)
Perfect Dark (Rare)
Ridge Racer 64
Starcraft 64
Super Smash Bros.

From that list, I think only Super Smash Bros. is guaranteed, and maybe one of the Cruis'n games. The Rare games (and oddly Starcraft 64 post-ABK purchase) are totally dependent if Microsoft continues to play ball, and even then unless Perfect Dark/Conker gets re-rated to Teen I doubt those games will make it over unless Nintendo is serious about offering a Maturity filter for the N64 app.

Third parties like Konami, Capcom, Atlus, THQ, and whoever owns the license to Midway Games now that they're defunct are the only way N64 releases can be carried forward into 2024 on its regular monthly release schedule (and so help me God if Nintendo starts stretching these releases to every two or three months going forward...)
Uh, less than I expected. Still, there is Smash and Donkey Kong to go, and if Nintendo managed to get Banjo for Smash and the first game for NSO, I imagine the second game is on its way. And honestly, putting Perfect Dark on NSO is a great early marketing for the reboot/sequel. So there are some to go.

But like I said, if the Switch 2 is like fall 2024, I can see Nintendo simply not doing anything amd holding systems back for the Switch 2 reveal, in an effort to make the transition smoother. And like previosly said, if push comes to shove, Nintendo can simply add Expansions to it(Be it new Expansions, as the inevitable Splatoon 3 expansion, or old ones, like XC 2's Torna(A perfect candidate, since its self contained)

If the Switch 2 is 2025 or beyond, then yeah, I see Nintendo adding Gameboy September of this year.

if we go by nintendo releasing a new n64 game every month we have enough to last us until june

after that we get gameboy/color/advance, gamecube, wii, dreamcast, tamagotchi and atari 2600 all in july, after that nintendo explodes

I don't think the Banjo games are coming.

Wait, missed that Banjo 1 is already on NSO, lol.

It's probably just DK64+Smash Bros+Diddy Kong Racing left along with like 2-3 third party games.

The Sega Genesis part of NSO has always been weird to me.

Anyone that wants to play Genesis games has probably bought one of Sega's infinite amount of remakes, remasters, and collections.

Sega Saturn or Dreamcast on NSO would have been very interesting as Sega has been less willing to port and remake those games (probably because Saturn emulation sucked until like 3 years ago)

What interesting games are left to add to NSO from the Genesis?

Is Banjo-Tooie not on the NSO yet?
Nope and prolly not for a few months because I don't believe it was shown as an upcoming release. We're still waiting on Mario Party 3, the Pokemon Stadium games which we could see next month at the Pokemon presentation. And I think that 1080 snowboarding game was on the list. I may be forgetting another one.

Then again nintendo could surprise us but I don't think so lmao.

Spent all that time parsing N64 earlier, but now I have to do some training at work so I'll have to leave it to someone else to comb the Wikipedia articles of first party Sega Genesis games and what's still notably missing 😋 Either that or I'll have to come back to this later this evening

ExciteBike 64, but I think based on the current known games and what their roadmaps were previously, they're not gonna surprise us with Smash until July at the earliest.

Ah, is it already the time of year where they go through all the regions of Pokemon in some fashion and say "remember this?"?

[EDIT] Since this is garnering more attention than I thought it would: I would assume the NSUID update would line up with pre-orders as it has with other games, and pre-orders would likely line up with a Direct for TotK. I'm not sure it means one is super imminent - Nintendo could also just make a tweet. [/EDIT]

The Advance Wars 1+2 Reboot Camp and Tears of the Kingdom eShop web pages just popped changes with new NSUIDs attached to both (or, at least, on the Canadian eShop pages).

Credit goes to lbabinz on Twitter for monitoring these pages for changes (he did not post about these changes, they're from a Discord chat).

Tears of the Kingdom previously did not have a NSUID. It now having a NSUID means pre-orders will be going live at some point in the future, potentially in the near future.

I would think it's safe to assume pre-orders opening would line up with a Direct.

Wow an actual sign that something's coming soon.

I’ve placing my bets on direct on February 9. So much that I’ve taken PTO on that day.

And helps that I barely take days off and my co-workers and even bosses are telling me to take a break, so I’m also taking the 15-16th off for a Win win.

Or lose lose cause Nintendo read this message.

Really thought Nintendo might actually wait until 2026 or so (when I expect the war to end) to release Advance Wars.
I didn't think it would be that late, but I didn't expect it until H2 this year. I'm surprised they're (most likely) releasing it close to the anniversary of the war. Doesn't make sense but whatever lol

Metroid Fusion and Zero Mission and Minish Cap on the Switch would be very nice, but I'm thinking we probably don't get GBA games until 2025 and maybe not until Switch 2.

Its happening

Yeah Advance Wars is the real news here. Everyone figured that Zelda pre-orders would open soon, but Advance Wars was MIA.

Excellent! Especially because of AW, of course. Relieved to see that the game is closer to release

The new MonHun Digital Event is one hour after the usual Direct time (22:00 GMT on a Wednesday) 👀

All of the previous MH Digital Events were held at 14:00 GMT iirc

Is it just me(I haven't played Sunbreak yet) or does this expansion looks like it could've been a standalone MH game? I mean they're releasing a season pass for the expansion, looks wild to me when it's not a Blizzard game lol.

What's the general expectation of what's next to MH? Another Rise expansion? World 2? Rise 2? Both?
Kinda wish they would shadowdrop Advance Wars, but with it having also a physical version, I don't think that's possible.
Why tho?? It would tank even further the sales of a game that probably won't sell that big anyways. I hope they show a trailer with the release date at least 2 months before, and show more of the game in a way it looks more appealing. Really hoping it does well so the fans can have a sequel eventually.

Advance Wars in April just before Zelda and after Fire Emblem Engage always made a huge amount of sense to me personally, but honestly, I'm just glad there's a serious sign it's alive at all.

can someone check if there's a change for silksong?

Is it okay if I share this info on the Advance wars subreddit? Maybe they'll finally stop doomposting after seeing this.

Advance Wars in March or April is very exciting. It’s more than just the old games since it has online multiplayer.

It's pretty similar to how Iceborne was handled for World, and technically in prior generations both would've been standalone new games anyways from my understanding (like an Ultimate/G-rank game). But kinda like Pokemon, they've shifted towards DLC instead of a new version for that sorta thing

I think "World 2" is up next, think it was in the Capcom leaks

You do know there's threads for those games / general games you're playing, right? Like you don't have to come into the Nintendo Direct Speculation thread and try to take it off topic for some reason?
As someone who's been part of this community for five years, yes, I'm aware there are general and game-specific STs, and I frequently post in both of them. What you fail to realize is that we're in the middle of the January doldrums, and until Daybreak's post, there was nothing specifically on topic. Also, plenty of Fami members tend to stay within certain STs and don't venture much outside of those STs, so I like to bring conversation into the popular threads during the dry season so everyone can feel involved in game discussions on a game forum.

Acting like nobody has ever gone off topic in an ST lmao

Well, with Zelda TOTK now having a proper NSUID... we don't need any insider to have an assurance regarding news coming very soon

[EDIT] According to my bot, changes on NSUID was also made on NOA eShop, México eShop and Brazil eShop for both games
