StarTopic Anime |ST| Is Captain Falcon more anime than Fire Emblem?

A U.S. release date has been announced for Mamoru Hosoda's Belle - January 14, 2022 along with a teaser trailer.

I'm really looking forward to this, I love Summer Wars and Kaho Nakamura has been on my playlists since her Ainou album. Glad it's not too far away!

Any other Lupin the 3rd fan? Part 6 has started airing and I'm excited for it. It looks really good from the trailers. I'm waiting on the dub personally before diving in.

I’ll probably wait for the dub as well. Just finished part V, it was a blast(so was 4)

"I should rewatch Gokaiger", he thinks after binging Gokaiger clips on YouTube for the last 2 hours and knowing full well he has a crapton on Toku on his backlog

Don't watch a lot of anime, more of a manga maniac, but pretty excited for Chainsaw Man and Stone Ocean.
Also, I've watched a good percentage of existing tokusatsu films, but not only a bit of TV toku action. Love Ultraman, Ultraseven, Liveman (my fave), Jetman, og Kamen Rider, and KR Fourze.
I finished Jetman about a month ago, top shelf toku. Shout out to Grey, the smoking, drinking robot before Bender existed:

Yes, Love Lupin the 3rd

But I prefer it subbed. Something about Sonny Strait as Lupin just doesnt sit with me

Can't look at that guy at anything other than Krillin/Usopp

Sonny Straight only voiced Lupin in the older specials/movies. All the recent stuff has had Tony Oliver as Lupin.

Hoo boy, glad to see this thread here. I’ve never participated in one but I watch a lot of anime and (some) Toku.

I recently finished Demon Slayer first season and Mugen Train. I enjoyed it a lot! I started watching it because I wanted to get the game which was sadly…A rough $60 lost. The anime and movie though were top shelf and the ending to Mugen Train made me tear up quite a bit for a character that hasn’t made much appearance before that. I watched it dubbed so I guess I’ll be waiting longer for season two as I’ll wait for the dub there.

I’ve started watching Gamers! with my girlfriend after we just finished up One Week Friends and it’s such a fun show. We’re finishing up The Disastrous Life of Saiki K as well and I’ll be forever sad how that series dub was one of the best until the second season.

By myself I’m watching Big Windup, That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, and Gintama.

Looking forward to giving Chainsaw Man and Stone Ocean a watch whenever they come out.

This week's Zenkaiger was fun!

I liked the transformations after the switches :v
And there was this shot wih Battle Japan and Stacaesar that I guess was to really drive home the point of the inspiration for the design of the latter.

Love Live Super Star Season 1 finished today with episode 12. This was probably my favorite first season for a Love Live yet and easily the best Love Live has ever looked. The five members of Liella are a great group with no weak links! Kanon, the leader is definitely my favorite. I think her main struggle of stage fright and lack of confidence is relatable, and seeing her grow to become an actual determined leader is definitely the highlight of season 1. Similarly, I actually enjoyed every song this season! Usually there are one or two that are just fine and don’t click with me. The OP Start!! True Dreams is my clear favorite, and I also really dug Mirai Wa Kaze No You Ni (the ending song), Mirai Yoho Halleujah (from episode 1), Tiny Stars (episode 3), and Dreaming Energy (which I already liked walking in after seeing their Anime Expo Lite concert). Very excited for the last few songs (especially episode 12’s song!) to hit iTunes. One last thing, I loved the owl and especially the dog in Super Star and I hope we see more of them. It’s too early to say how Super Star ranks against the original and Sunshine, but yeah I really loved season 1.

I was also very happy today I finally got the third Hajime No Ippo collection in the mail and the first Girls Und Panzer Das Finale film. I haven’t seen the latter yet, but I did dive into the Ippo set and really enjoyed episode 76 and especially enjoyed the Kimura Vs Mashiba OVA. The latter had everything I love about the series with an exciting build up to the boxing title fight with cool training sessions and just enough scenes to know and care about the stakes for both characters. The actual fight was super intense and awesome as it was mostly a beatdown until things started to shift. I had accidentally read about the outcome prior, but it didn’t make it any less exciting as the fight dragged on and the final blows were landed. Seriously forgot about it in the heat of the moment (when Inner Light played even as just an instrumental it was still pure hype). Man I really hope Discotek licenses the second and third seasons, I really want to see all of the Ippo anime out there! Incidentally, I can’t recommend Hajime No Ippo enough to all anime fans if you haven’t seen it. The first and third seasons are on Crunchyroll.

With the announcement of season 3, I think it's time I finally watch the entirety of season 1 and start 2. Not sure why I could never stick with it. Thankfully it's all on HBO Max!

Here's the Mob Psycho trailer:

That’ll be fun

Mob season 2 has a
really brutal scene, it's over in a flash but when the teleporting guy grabs the kid and smashes his face into a wall and then instantly changes to smashing it through a car window, that's really messed up when you think about it.

What a blessed day. Finally, we're getting the final two arcs.

Got around to watching Violet Evergarden Gaiden: Eternity and the Auto Memory Doll.
FFG4Qn0.gif

Was really good. Was really gorgeous as always as to be expected from Kyoani. It's been on my to watch list for a while, but it definitely reminded me why I loved this series so much. Wasn't expecting the story between the two sisters to hit so hard, but damnnnn it definitely left me feeling very emotional with how things played out haha. Super glad this got adapted and would definitely recommend watching if you liked the series prior.

The plan is to watch the movie that just came out recently soon. Hear it's super good. Just need to find time for it to watch with some friends lol.

Anime this season I wanna get around to watching is the Komi-san one since I love the manga so much and the Eighty Six sequel, but I'm still in the middle of season 1 for this, it'll be a bit.

Komi-san premiere was excellent! Studio Olm really impressed me with how well they adapted and elevated that first chapter. This is the kind of sharp, snappy, and creative direction I wish Blue Period had right now. Only thing that was subpar was Netflix's subtitles. The show is literally about a girl too shy to properly speak so she writes her thoughts, and the show is super reliant on on-screen text gags, that not properly subbing it all is a real downer. But otherwise, fantastic and definitely anime of the season. Nothing is topping Sk8 as anime of the year for me, but one episode in and Komi-san is very close!

Muteking 3
Yeah I’m enjoying this, you can definitely feel the style callbacks the 80’s original but feels like a twist is coming, they are building up continuing plot threads. Also so far the Muteking battles have been against generics in auto battle mode, what happens when a strong enemy shows up that that won’t cut it for

Having the eight Showa Ultraman shows on my shelf and only finishing the first disc of Q really gives me pause on how much content I have to binge, especially since I had no problem finishing Gridman in a week despite the subs being poor

Thinking I may get to finishing the final 20 episodes of Juspion I have left since I stopped due to IRL disasters + the show getting a bit formulaic, and me just hoping they'd release Spielban afterward (Discotek doesn't seem to like doing metal heroes sadly). That's shorter to finish than a bunch of ultraman shows, especially if there's more on the way next year

Sono Bisque Doll wa Koi wo Suru (My Dress-Up Darling) is getting an anime adaptation starting this January, as I wrote in the manga thread, this one is good and so fluffy in a very positive way.

Cannot WAIT! Marin and Wakana are truly the sweetest couple that doesn't know they're dating, and it's a happy bonus to have good animation quality, the cuts in the trailer are very fun.

Finally got around to watching the first two episodes of Komi-san Can't Communicate, and wow. I already loved the manga, but they really knocked it out of the park for the show lol. Super pretty, charming, funny and even the music is really good so far. Been wanting an anime for this series for a long time now and I'm really happy it's delivering so far. Looking forward to more soon~

I just finished Sonny Boy yesterday and I absolutely loved it. Highly recommend it to anyone. The ending was so satisfying and I'm gonna be thinking of it for a while. Can't decide if I like it or Oddtaxi more for this year so far, but that's really strong praise since I loved Oddtaxi.

Toei Tokusatsu World mass delisted a bunch of episodes

I dont know why
I'm more surprised that's still a thing TBH, they really need to fix up their uploading schedule.
I saw that Ex-Aid was finally on there and nearly jumped out of my chair until i realized it's just the first two episodes.

All of the Kamen Rider series available are currently like this, it's understandable for the stuff that Shout Factory has gotten a hold of like the original and Kuuga. But it's almost certainly going to take them several years just to finish any of the others at this rate. 2-3 uploads a day is not enough to handle it and the many other Toku series they've worked on.

oh no they specifically stated they'd only do 2 eps from each series and some specials for the anniversary and nothing more

it's dumb

Only thing I'm watching this season, besides keeping up with Shaman King is Vanguard Overdress.

I doubt many, if any, people on here have ever watched it, but I've been enjoying this season of Cardfight Vanguard, more so than the recent seasons, flaws and all.

On that note, the opening is extremely catchy 🎶🎶🎶

Just finished Kamen Rider Drive, damn good show even with some hangups in the final arc. Great mix of humor and drama throughout while tapping into some of the tragic sci-fi undertones that made the original Rider a huge hit.

I'd rank my top 5 Rider shows as...

1. Build
2. Gaim
3. Drive
4. Ex-Aid
5. Ryuki

I've been going back and forth between Kamen Rider and Gundam lately, so now it's time to watch something I should have seen years ago, Mobile Fighter G.

I've seen Belle today (I've also had the pleasure to meet Hosoda by the way!)

The movie is a visual masterpiece, quite possibly the best looking anime movie of all time (I'm sorry Shin Eva, you have been outdone this year). The world of U is a stunning reimagination of the internet perfectly portrayed by scene full of details that will make your eyes climax in every single frame.
Belle/Suzu's voice actress did an outstanding job and I feel sorry for every VA that will have to dub her, her interpretation and her singing are impossible to match, she made me tear just with her voice.
Note of honor the songs, they are outstanding and memorable, I'm gonna loop them on Spotify for a while.

I don't want to say much on the story since the movie won't be out worldwide for a while, but for me personally Hosoda managed to take the classic "Beauty and the Beast" Disney story and elevete it to a new level, making it more modern and surprisingly different to the original in some aspects.

The movie is also quite western-friendly without losings its Japanese charm, and I'm thinking this is gonna be year Hosoda is going to get recognized as a great director outside of the anime niche.

Quoting myself because I liked Belle so much I made a full review of it here (in italian).

I really, really want to see it again.

Well discotek pulled off another miracle

Managed to recover all but 2 minutes of the English dub

I'm halfway through G Gundam and I'm enjoying it but it feels somewhat... slight? I like a good super robot show, but everything is just so on the nose and played totally straight, it feels like it lacks a sizzle. But it's fun. We'll see where things go in the second half.

I mean it’s the first Gundam alt universe and the only real rule given was make most of them Gundams so the toy line sells better. And certain things are callbacks to the main universe

I want to watch G Gundam some time. I enjoyed the first episode where the protagonist at one point was violently interrogated in a police station in Italy by having his face dunked into pizza lol.

It's not really so much its relation to the rest of the Gundam franchise, as I expected it to be very different, but just its own qualities as a super robot show.

I just started the tournament arc though and I'm curious where it goes.

@Mandos G Gundam definitely picks up once the tournament arc is underway. Allenby is a great addition to the cast and they hit a better balance of character development and fighting.

There’s a reason she got a modern HG before any of the shuffle alliance(and the super form of her suit too)… which makes me sad, I want a modern Maxter and Bolt HG

Just caught up to JoJo, love it. Can't wait for Part 6 next month!
Part 5 > Part 4 > Part 2 > Part 1 > Part 3
Part 5 for me is held back by its ending, but the anime did a great job adapting the manga which had some pacing issues. Part 6 is one of my favorites so I anticipate the anime will also be great.

It's wild to me how much the anime has change the perception of the series. Part 5 used to be considered the worst, and was a real favorite, but I think popular opinion has really changed.
Personally as manga weirdo I'm
7→6→4→2→3→8→5→1

Part 5 had really shitty fan translations for years, but I also think it has some of the weirdest and most esoteric powers in the series that were hard to understand in manga form. The anime has some really good animation and directing in that regard.

I haven't finished 8, so I won't rank it but for me...

7 > 4 > 2 > 6 > 5 > 3 > 1

Yeah, I think 5 is the only part 100% improved by the anime, though the anime on a whole is very good.

I just got the 75 day trial of Crunchyroll through Gamepass. I don't watch anime and don't know where to start. I was thinking One Piece but isn't that like 4000 episodes? Are there any great single season shows?
