I’m gonna be upgrading to a Switch OLED soon and was thinking about getting a screen protector. Do you have one on your Switch? Just wondering how the community feels about them.

I do! It's the amFilm one from Amazon. I never play in handheld mode, so it's really just on there to ensure the screen doesn't somehow get scratched if the dock gets bumped.

I’ve put them on all my Switches as soon as I took them out of the box. I don’t bother with screen protectors on my other devices though - I guess I expect the Switch to be useful for years and years, but a phone will only last a few.

Of course. Especially after my og switch slipup

Got this one too

I have one on my OLED but not my phone. Goes to show you which device I care more about.

I guess I'm the opposite of most in the thread, because I have a screen protector for my phone but not my Switch. Not due to a lack of care for it or anything like that, I'm just lazy lol (well, that and the fact that I rarely use my Switch in handheld mode anyway). I should probably buy one tbh.

AmFilm is the best. Relatively easy to apply too unlike ones in the past that made me want to smash my head into a wall. Lots of wasted money on protectors back in the DS/3DS days lol.

Nah. I did on my launch model, but the v2 and OLED that I subsequently traded up to, I didn't bother (and it didn't matter).

여, I made sure to get a screen protector for my OLED specifically because some brilliant mind realized the value of affixing a less scratch resistant film to the screen itself, and I took issue with that.

No. I have had screen crackings on portable systems before (DSi XL, 3DS XL, and my Vita when I wasn't too careful with my shit in college), but I'm not sure if any of those would have been prevented by a protector. Additionally, when the original DS was new my mom got me a screen protector and it was extremely annoying, and I constantly had to fuss with it to prevent bubbles from coming up. Had the same thing with my first smartphone. So I've always had a bias against screen protectors.

Never had to use screen protectors for my handhelds, and same for the Switch. But I do keep them in a case, I never just shove them in a pocket or a bag.

Yep, I use the amFilm tempered glass ones. Doesn't seem to impact image quality at all, and even if it might never come up since I'm pretty careful with my handhelds, it's nice to have the reassurance that I have something protecting it.

haven't bothered with a screen protector ever, really. none of my Switch systems ever had a scratch on the screen. none on my 5 year old phone, either.

I do - I'm currently using the one that came with the Switch OLED case, but I second all the recommendations for the amFilm one, which I used on my launch Switch for many years. Had to eventually take it off, but it successfully protected my Switch from some damage, so it did its job!

I made sure to buy one and apply it to my launch Switch before I started using it. I haven't had any issues with my Switch's screen, so I'm happy with my decision.

Yeah I do
I don't really play in handheld, but it saves it getting scratched up when moving it in and out of the dock.

I don't use screen protectors on anything because the installation process scares me. It hasn't been a problem though as I take good care of it. I do however use a carrying case.

Yep. Everything with a screen gets one. The Switch, my phones, Walkmans, etc. all get one. Sometimes I fuck it up and theres like one spec of dust beneath the glass, but I can live with that over scratches.

Yes. It was the "Dock scratching the screen" scaremongering what made me decide to do it. To be fair though, it gives the console the perfect weight for my taste.

Is that the old thin film kind that totally suck? Very different than tempered glass ones.

I have a Hori film on mie as I couldn't get a tempered glass one on nicely (which I managed to do on my OG model). I actually prefer the film as it is much thinner and almost invisible (save a few specks of dust you can see in certain light).

It's expensive though, the Hori, and a one-shot deal, but it's got a novel application process that I found quite intuitive.

I really hope the next model has Gorilla glass, or a premium option with glass. My phone has glass and it sits in my pocket just fine with no screen protection all day every day...

Yes, I've used a tempered glass screen protector on every Switch I've owned. It's so easy, makes the screen feel better than plastic, and preserves the trade in or sell on value if you ever decide to get rid of it.

I have replacements coming today. Mine tend to get cracked when my youngest drops the Switch on the tile floor. How the console itself survives I don’t know, but I’m glad it does

OG Switch - yes, and it's cracked from my kids using it with all their love
Lite - Nope
OLED - Yes, I didnt the first year or so though since it was only I using it, but a friend brought an extra when he visited a few weeks ago so now I do.

100% I have a screen protector on most of my devices that I use often, they're essential imo and have saved me a couple times.

Well I got my screen protectors in. I applied one, and it was like 98% good but there was a tiny speck of dust under it, and it was like 0.5 mm not aligned perfectly and I knew that’d drive me bonkers. Tried the second screen protector and it had an even bigger speck of dust under it… so both were a wash. Oh well! I guess that’s like 15 bucks down the drain haha

I’ll just baby the thing instead of sinking any more money into screen protectors haha

I didn't for my original Switch, but I bought one for my OLED. It was an impulse buy at Walmart. ;)

AmFilm has to have the best warranty fulfillment I’ve ever seen after how badly I screwed up applying mine so many times. Took me like 7 packs to get it right, and I think I only paid for about 3.

I had a glass protector but it broke one day. As seen with phone screen protectors, this is supposed to happen. Though my dock never scratched my switch, and it's a launch year model. I must've been pretty lucky.

Incidentally, I also have never suffered from drift on any of the joycon I own, really my headache has always been that those tiny controllers seem to disconnect all the time when detached to the main unit, especially if I'm more than 2 m away from the dock. For single player games my pro controller is there, but I can't play Mario party or Mario kart with multiple people without getting the "Change grip/order" screen every 10 minutes or so.

Tempered glass. Been doing it ever since the bottom screen on 3DS were leaving permanent marks on the top screen because the rubber feet weren't sufficiently thick enough, and sure enough felt vindicated that the Docks were doing the same thing to Switch when reports first started coming out about the damage it was doing to screens from regular use sliding in and out

Nope. I've never used a screen protector and never will. Same with phone cases. I use the licensed case when I want to transport it.

No way, I loathe screen protectors. Infuriating to apply, and I can never get it right. So I just go without, on all my devices.

I completely get you there, applying the things can be hell sometimes (though there are a few tricks to make the process easier), but I think it's worth it in the long run, you can keep the screens pristine for years, which is good for the picture quality obviously, and for a potential sale later on.

Highly recommend you get a really nice one and have a best buy employee use one of them machines to put it on for you. I did that and I honestly don’t even notice the screen protector

Yup, a glass one.

Launch Switch and the screen is still pristine thanks to that. You can see the the dock's tabs made some light marks on the glass, so imagine that on the plastic.

Put a glass protector on the og switch at launch, it's worked like a charm since. I'd put glass on any portable with a plastic screen, feels way more sturdy.
