StarTopic Future Nintendo Hardware & Technology Speculation & Discussion |ST| (Read the staff posts before commenting!)

Finally, I don't know why a lot of people expected a Q1 Switch 2/Pro release when barely any reputable sites discuss the possible or have info surrounding it.
Barely anyone was even discussing the extremely detailed and compelling hacked Nvidia documentation. I found that too be even more peculiar.

I do have to say that the gap between Fire Emblem in January and Zelda in May is large. I'd previously assumed this was the Drake launch window, but a special Zelda OLED kinda messes that up (because they probably won't cross-promote Zelda with both SwOLED and Drake) I assume they just want to keep the period open for the Mario movie.

They could place a killer (2D!) Mario in that slot along with Drake and the movie, but that sounds too much like fan fiction. I'm going to operate on the assumption that 2023 is the Zelda And Lotsa DLC Year.

Slightly off-topic: Nintendo is really good at drawing me in with an amazing tentpole title (Galaxy, BotW etc.), and then losing me again a few years later after I remember how few and far between those are. 😅

So yeah, if there's a ToTK OLED version launching with the game then Drake is not launching anytime around then. Which would mean the delay to the bizarre May launch date is not explained by new hardware. So they must really need that time to finish the game, despite the ESRB rating already being done. Feels kinda odd.

I still feel like the status of the T239 chip in leaked and public documentation suggests it's coming "soon" but I no longer have any idea when soon is. 2024 feels too late but who the hell knows.

Given the nature of the hack, that’s more tied to not wanting to be sued by Nvidia I would guess.
I don't think Nvidia has grounds to sue anyone for talking about hacked information that was later made public. Unless those people have existing NDAs with Nvidia.

Funcle is the one who was talking last April about a new backpiece for a new model and new colorways for existing models. Muncle is the one who moderates the forum where the Lite shell leaked in 2019.
Muncle is the person who leaked the Splatoon Oled reveal if i remember correctly

New Hardware, Nintendo and not, usually launch during the holiday season. I'm not saying Is Always the case, but It happens quote often. So if it's not in May, Late 2023 Is quite plausible imho.

I don't particularly care about discussing new hardware specifics but I'm very worried about the game leaking now.
this was probably addressed already but these special editions don't come with the game for a reason: they're manufactured way in advance

Am I the only one who has mixed feelings with the leak of the Zelda TOTK themed Switch Oled, I mean the leak of the Splatoon 3 themed Switch edition was a day before its announcement and yet this leak is at least 1 month before it is announced is weird no doubt.
It's true that it looks real because of how detailed the console looks, but if tomorrow they tell me it's fake I wouldn't react saying "wow I certainly didn't expect that".

It is worth remembering that we got an edition of Monster Hunter and Pokemon Diamond and Pearl before the official announcement of the Oled, perhaps Nintendo in September this year will surprise us and that is why retailers are unaware of Nintendo's plans for the first half, as they plan to have a notable title every month for the first year since its launch, just as with the launch of the Nintendo Switch.

Remember that they announced AC themed Switch like a month before that Direct. Wouldn't be suprised if they just tweet about this early January.

Well yeah, It's safe to assume that ToTk Will be the last big commercial Switch title, and After that Nintendo Will go all in on Switch 2. It's a matter of when.

Will Nintendo repeat the March launch in 2024? It's possible but...

Will they totally skip holiday 2023, despite being usually their most profitable quarter? It's possible but I'm not incline to believe It.

Are they going to have a fall 2024 launch with an half and a year barren without any noticeable software between Zelda and, let's assume, fall 2024? This seems Crazy to me.

I Guess Will learn more soon enough.

Personally, I'm impatient to Hear Nate Predictions for 2023

Could be. I'm curious what they'd launch it with. Maybe a new Mario I guess.

It all feels weird.
Since Zelda is off the table I think it’s pretty likely that whenever the Switch 2 launches it’ll launch with whatever it is that the Odyssey team has been working on. The Switch and BotW showed how important and strong launch title can be, so I’m sure they’ll have something big.

If this shakes out without Drake in H1 2023 - so Fire Emblem, Mario movie & TotK with OLED - it'd definitely feel like Nintendo's stumbling somewhat. This year has been a bit of a mess, and I'd put that down to preparing for Drake previously, but now I'm not sure what's going on. Splatoon 3 having a massive amount of new talent on it's team might be an indicator - maybe getting so many new people on board, combined with two years of COVID, is taking it's toll.

After both new gen consoles more or less had 2 years of cross gen, imo it's definitely not safe to assume Nintendo will go all in on Switch 2 when it launches.

To be honest, the most likely scenario is this:
  • Zelda team wasn’t sure when they’d be done with the game, and they wanted more time to optimize the game (for higher res and/or frame rate). Pokémon was a strong seller for the winter anyway, so they moved TOTK to 2023.
  • Because E3 was cancelled, they could further delay news on the game. In a word where we got the game this winter, we would have certainly gotten an E3 blowout.
  • Additionally, to better restructure the year, Nintendo swapped the release dates of Xenoblade and Splatoon.
With the game announced to be delayed to spring 2023 (conspicuously 2 days before E3’s public cancellation on March 31st), the question became the launch timing. Soon after, the Mario Movie was delayed to April 2023, so that month’s taken. And it would be better off to launch the game after the movie so people go see it instead of playing TOTK instead (joking lol). But to be honest, I feel like the simple explanation is Nintendo can use the Movie as a platform to promote Tears of the Kingdom.

I actually feel pretty confident that Nintendo will advertise Tears of the Kingdom in theaters. Can’t remember if it was when I watched Black Panther Walanda Forever or Glass onion, but there was a Pokémon SV advertisement. If anyone could +1 that then even better!

But yeah, this whole week has me happy overall. No new hardware is sad but it’ll come eventually. I was thinking about Occam’s Razor before this leak and came to expect that the simplest explanation for Zelda delay was in fact that it needed more time, lol. I’m more excited for Zelda anyway, I was really hoping for better resolution and performance but we could still get that! And bonus I get to save some money! My Day 1 Switch will have to keep chugging for a while longer, the oled is tempting but if I’m being honest the design of the left joycon is kinda tacky looking…

I'm looking forward to listening to Nate's podcast too.

I don't think Nintendo Switch will run out of software for 1 year, I mean the first half of 2022 will be sluggish so they can aggressively market towards Fire Emblem Engage, Zelda TOTK and the Mario movie.
I mean the first half of the year there are not many games, but the ones we have are highly anticipated by the community and the other games come out every month after the release of Switch Drake in August / September this year, that will allow Nintendo to release from August 2023 to July 2024 monthly titles to swell the catalog of the successor.

I assume I explained myself bad, I apologize. I think we Will definitely see some cross gen title for a Year or so, Just think about MP4. I Just think that ToTk Is the last Switch only big title left, we Will see a transition but not an exclusive title IMHO

They are releasing the Kirby remaster in February and the Bayonetta prequel in March, so it’s not like there’s a huge gap there without any releases. And I wouldn’t be surprised if they had a rapid release Golden Week game a la Nintendo Switch Sports still to announce. And maybe they’ll quietly shove out Advance Wars at the end of the fiscal year, too.

Not sure it will happen, might just get a patch.

I think it would be nailed on for a boxed release as Nintendo will want to make a big deal of it. It’ll be a long time before Switch 2 has a new 3D Zelda launching on it. A patch as well for current owners if Nintendo feel generous although a fee wouldn’t surprise me.

Since we’ve gotten new hardware announced every other July (lite and oled) I think that’s the next goalpost. If it is indeed a successor and they’re not doing a minor update again (one we wouldn’t even know about yet) then yeah we’ll find out at E3 in June.

But man, it seems hard to believe that a successor would be announced at E3, because that’s one month after Tears of the kingdom and its oled. Quite different than the March - July with the Animal Crossing switch —> oled.

If there is a successor later this year, my predictions are definitely a 3D Mario Game and a TOTK Upgrade with a big Expansion DLC and major fidelity improvements.

I 100% believe Nintendo will release MP4 on NSW no matter what even if its BoTW situation both day 1 on the system.

Third versions are a long dead concept.

Why was this year a mess for Nintendo?

Even if it is real, the timing on that Zelda OLED leak is hilarious.

1) Digital Foundry breaks months of silence on Switch Pro rumors by saying it was ditched.

2) Couple days later a Zelda special edition OLED conveniently leaks as if it’s sole purpose is to crush any rising/remaining optimism of a Q1 release of the next iteration of Switch.

At least people are going to (hopefully) not go into the new year clinging to hopes for a hardware reveal in the January/February Direct.

We should be happy about this: it’s probably a pretty good indicator that Zelda isn’t getting delayed again.

I'm glad it all happened within a week

I can be completely emotionally crushed now and walk away in 2023

thank you leak jesus

I saw some people still holding out hope for a Switch 2 by TotK launch, presumably they will still be believing that once this OLED edition is announced 2 months from now...
