If you were a developer at Nintendo and we were in a meeting to decide the next game to be created, what would be your craziest/creative/out of the box ideas?

Some of my ideas:

1- ARMS Adventures: Yes, an Action-adventure with RPG elements based on the world of ARMS. Imagine a large semi-open world like an area of Skyward Sword but unified, with combat challenges, puzzles, exploration and boss fights, all with that fantastic soundtrack and a story that is very out of the ordinary. I think that ARMS is a Nintendo IP that deserved more care at its launch, I would love to know more about the lore and characters and be able to hear some more musical arrangements in that style. I think it would make for a really fun game, and that's the kind of thing that NIntendo's in-house devs seem to love to do.

2- StarFox BIG-BANG: In a universe parallel to the original series, a different Fox and some old and new friends begin their first adventure, crossing an open-world space with a focus on exploration and classic ship battles, with the possibility to land on some planets to explore local fauna, flora and culture. Something inspired by No Man's Sky and Starlink (but without Ubisoft's repeated formula or procedural generation). A grand return of the franchise, for StarFox to burst the bubble for good and establish itself as a great and recurring Nintendo franchise.

3- Hyrule World Online: Just imagine an Action-MMORPG in the world of Hyrule from Breath of the Wild, exploring and doing quests with your friends. Something not so focused on telling a story, but on a type of Sandbox ready to generate unforgettable moments without the need for a script. The lore could be based shortly after BotW, Zelda returns to the throne and needs new and brave soldiers ready to rebuild the kingdom and destroy any remnants of Ganon's presence.

4- Mario Warriors: Yes, that's what you thought, a Mario Musou. Just imagine Mario running across the plains of the Mooshrom Kingdom, battling thousands of Goombas and Koopa-Troopas and maybe that idea won't seem so far from reality after all.

I’ve always wanted Nintendo to have a Diablo. And I feel like many of their franchises would work just fine! Like man. A Mario Diablo. Isometric perspective, loot, all that, but across a bunch of bold, colourful Nintendo biomes. Fuck yeah.

Or maybe like a Marvel Ultimate Alliance type game with a Super Smash ideology, just have a bunch of different characters show up in the same hack n’ slash game for reasons best left unexplained.

Waluigi's Mansion: Essentially a Tower Defense game where you, as Waluigi, are setting up traps and enemies in mansion rooms and wings to try to stop Luigi (and perhaps other Mario characters with different powers) from progressing through your mansion.

Would make for a fun asymmetrical multiplayer game as well.

Detective Samus: Point and click adventure prequel to Metroid 1. Taking place during her time with the Federation Police, Samus is tasked with following the breadcrumbs in the aftermath of a Space Pirate raid gone wrong, ultimately unraveling yet another conspiracy. Minimal action scenes. Mostly lore and character focused. Mauk and Kreatz from the manga assist Samus in her investigation.

  • Pokemon Party - remember those minigames from Stadium? Spin them off into their own minigame mayhem IP. I call it Pokemon Party but I’m not sure if I want it to be a Mario Party reskin or something else.
  • Splatoon Tactics - I can already imagine how the ink mechanic is going to translate to SRPG gameplay, and it is glorious. Bonus points if we can get known Splatoon faces to cameo.
  • Call 2 ARMS - ARMS but as a 3D beat em up. Add some story about Dr. Coyle taking over the world with her Helix army and other goons. Add some RPG mechanics maybe. Then we’re gold.
  • Pandora’s Tower 2 - I’m imagining the titular tower being like RE2R’s police station. Basically an entire game designed around that. Powerful brute constantly chasing after you optional.
  • Ever Oasis 2 - make it even more of a loot action RPG, where your loot can be not only gear and items but also stuff you can use for the town builder option.

Kirby Warriors. Also, a proper RPG adventure, Paper Kirby style.

Animal Crossing + Style Savvy, a boutique/styling game with the Able sisters set in the Animal Crossing universe.

A Splatoon spin off, maybe a tactical RPG. I don't enjoy shooters, but I love the Splatoon lore and aesthetic so I'd like to see it used in a different genre.

Xenoblade Warriors, but I actually think this one has a realistic chance of happening.

Fire Emblem Volleyball. Hang out at the beach with your favourite waifus and husbandos.

A Waluigi game where Waluigi is a real detective.
You would be in a small town like Majora's Mask or Shenmue (or a Ghibli style town) with each character having his own story and lifestyle and secrets.
You would have to find clues with objects you can buy in the shops, ask questions to the inhabitants and follow some of the inhabitants.

Or another game, a Waluigi game where Waluigi is a kind of super hero whose costume would be designed with parts of all Nintendo consoles.
An epic Futuristic/Steampunk adventure in which you would be accompanied by Wario.
At one point in the game, the two friends find an old bowser army flying boat and use it to travel the world with Wario as Captain.

Both game should be named "WAAAHH"

Not my idea, but Kyle Bosman’s Tony Hawk battle royale where the more tricks you do the bigger your arms get and the easier it is to knock other people over is something I want to happen

Maybe logically an Arms skateboarding game would make that idea somewhat more practical

We've seen Nintendo Switch Sports, so perhaps we could get a Nintendo Switch Party? For example: one player could hide a Joy-Con that intermittently vibrates at a high frequency (think of the coin sound in Mario Kart), then one or more others search for it while holding a Joy-Con that the hider discretely tells to increase or decrease in intensity of vibration as they are hot or cold. The IR camera can also be used for very primitive night vision. Perhaps there could be some sort of bluffing game of rock paper scissors in which players in the dark have to try to convince the other they won, after which the TV shows the image taken at the moment of play.

As much as I love new IP from EPD 4, I'd love to see a return to mixed-interface party games on Nintendo Switch. Other than it being primarily not screen-dependent, 1-2 Switch was already headed in this direction. Unfortunately, I suspect the online focus of the rumored Everybody's 1-2 Switch precludes anything similar to my ideas above.

you just barely brushed past the potential masterpiece of style savvy splatoon

MARIO'S MOUSTACHE MAYHEM

Open your own styling salon with Mario, and make everyone's moustache super! A colorful cast of characters are waiting to sit in Mario's salon seat and get pampered like Peach, with a cute or crazy moustache style. Listen to their requests and style all kinds of moustache - handlebars, twirly, and even Mario's own famous style, in a rainbow of colors! Will your next customer be Toadette, Luigi, or even mighty Bowser? It's time turn the Mushroom Kingdom into the Moustache Kingdom, so let's-a-go, mo!

Genuine idea: a Pikmin “Co-Op Royale” where you play exactly 1 Pikmin and you have to work together with other players to accomplish tasks

Donkey Kong Coconut Cream Pies the World.

It's like Rampage but instead of climbing up buildings and punching them, you shower them with coconut cream pies.

How about a futuristic racer with about thirty or so likeable racers with their own unique hover cars that can attack each other while racing. The tracks would be roller coaster like, with loops, and steep descents. Oh and the cars need to be super fast. I even got a name for it. Call it Falcon’s Fury.

Mario SAaD (sad adventure as dad).

a 3rd person adventure where he plays the whole of a mediocre human being that got cheated on by his wife lost his job and whose child hates him because he was too busy "saving the kingdom" to worry about the kids' education.

A Mario Citybuilder. You play as Peach and have to keep up with your Kingdom and/or citi(es). With different places in the Mushroom Kingdom or locations inspired by other games (Looking at you Mariokart), fulfilling the needs of your Toad-Population, infrastructure, transportation and keeping up with your defence forces against enemies. Maybe you could play as Bowser or Pauline depending on what map/kingdom you choose. You could even make a multiplayer out of it. There would be a lot of potential in what you could build, coin/star economics, "politics" and in how to include the role of Mario in a fun way.

Either that or a game where a stinky horse is the game master.

My dream Nintendo game is basically Hyrule Championship Golf.

Sim golf (my favourite genre) set in my favourite IP, which is literally perfectly suited to golf - and has already had golf mini-games in the past. You'd even have the proper TGC TruSim settings from PGA 2k23 for those that want them. Make it challenging on normal and super difficult at the higher levels. Nintendo already has Mario Golf for the casuals.

I can see in my mind all the menu screens, options, the different courses... it's crazy how clearly I can see it all.

Damn, now I wish I was back out on the Old Head of Kinsale...

Make a new sprite based - 2D tripleA Mario game, maybe Zelda or DK (I settle with Kirby)

Crazy I know, impossible? most likely, but a guy can dream right?

Nintendo Land + Miiverse + Gaia Online + Achievement system.

Yeah that's strange, allow me to explain:

Nintendo Land consisting of various Mini-Games where one could collect trophy-items felt very rewarding albeit limited as an ongoing experience.

Miiverse was a experimental game where your own character had a unique adventure and was made to be enjoyed as a interactive experience with friends and relatives.

Gaia Online was an Online Community RPG experience with a user-driven marketplace and limited availibility of items that you could use to dress your avatar with, a lot of time you were collecting things and being social. (And paying a truckload monthly to get every elusive item ever, possibly)

If (and that's a big if) Nintendo would manage to combine these 3 with their own IP you could have a very profitable and fun unique game/experience. My idea is that for the new device there will be some sort of Miiverse which incorporates these 3 games in 1, so a digital copy comes with every device.

For every game that releases for Switch developers will have to make several 3D/2D avatar assets that will work as unlockable achievement within each game which you can use to dress your avatar with. By playing games on your new device you can level these items and unlock different color palettes or something, you can sell these items on the digital marketplace for Nintendo Silver currency. Silver currency can be obtained by playing games.

The whole experience will unfold at your homescreen, where random messages and avatars from players will appear akin to how Super Mario Maker 2 tackles its random messages in a level (moderated messages)
You can react to a message and get a message chain going giving you social activity points which can be used to buy limited-time Nintendo themed avatar items for.

All to promote interactivity with your device and its games and the Nintendo IP in a safe environment ofcourse. I see it as a win-win because developers will do their best to create interesting items so their games will be played more giving even mediocre indie-games a better shot at being played.

Kid Icarus, drawing from Hippocrene springs of Greek myth iconography and lore, while keeping true to its own identity, seems a sound contender; we can even call it Hade-- ...

Waluigi's Mansion: Essentially a Tower Defense game where you, as Waluigi, are setting up traps and enemies in mansion rooms and wings to try to stop Luigi (and perhaps other Mario characters with different powers) from progressing through your mansion..
Wario's World, a similar concept, except you're Wario, trying to stop all manner of whooligans and yahoos from pilfering your rightly purloined treasure whilst you go out on adventures to obtain more treasure.

An opportunity for Sakamoto to seek redemption after Other M, utilizing the strengths he showed in Famicom Detective Club: presenting Federation Detective Club

Very, very workable and likeable.

Yes to more Pandora's Tower. That game deserves so much better (Also, give it to me on Switch).

you just barely brushed past the potential masterpiece of style savvy splatoon
Always did think this could be included in one of those games. Fresh!

I want the original idea for Epic Mickey but with Nintendo characters.
... Is it also a new Captain Rainbow game, like, with a strong focus on forgotten or otherwise underrepresented characters?

Not sure that would capture the same intent, actually, especially since part of the draw likely involved the more recognizable characters.

patch notes: fixed some typos

The Adventures of Wario & Waluigi VN: A game where they're both con artists and you try to make as much money as humanly possible and not get caught.

I had to Google this, because although I'd heard the name before, I had no idea what it was. Holy shit! The key people are all Metroid heavy hitters, including Gunpei Yokoi and Kenji Yamamoto! How are these games? Worth checking out? I'm seeing they released remakes for the Switch last year.

"Federation Detective Club" is perfect. 🥳 I want this even more now...

Legend of Nintendo Bros

Basically a story driven RPG that has all major nintendo franchises Smash like. Imagine a party with Mario Samus Link and Kirby for example. I would want the story to be rather serious and interesting though of course not that mature or gloomy

Nintendo Football

The concept here is a much more realistic Mario Strikers concept where Nintendo franchises have their own teams. Like a Mario team has Luigi Mario Peach Toad etc. Maybe 6-7 per team.

I would like it to have story mode and lore.

The caveat here is that characters will have a lot of difference in playstyle for example Diddy would be a great dribbler while Yoshi would have amazing headers.

Pokemon Metroidvania

Basically a fleshed out metroidvania with pokemon where you play as the pokemon and progress in dungeonlike environments in an action game. As you get more pokemon more possibilities emerge like bulbasaur can make vine bridges and squirtle can swim etc

Yeah I like Nintendo all star concepts a lot haha

Kid Icarus Uprising scratched that itch for me, at least a bit.

Pokémon Growlithe Legends: Smell Ya Later

The first game using smell-o-vision where you play as Blue and use your trusty Growlithe to find Red

Star Fox online/MMO. Where you can fly around a giant open world or even space/planets with tons of other players and take on giant bosses that require multiple players to kill. Even if it's like a monster hunter type game.

I want an F-Zero game developed by the team that created Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE. You would play as a young racer about to graduate from the F-Zero Racing Academy. There would be Persona style social / relationship elements, but the traditional Persona dungeons would be replaced by big F-Zero style races where you would work you way up from the rookie league all the way to the top.

Advance BATTALION WARriors

Choose your weapons and clear the map from the incoming enemy army (Action Mode) while you command your battalion and organize the resistance on the whole battlefield (Tactic Mode). Fight with different rifles, vehicles, tanks, warships, aircraft and use special weapons to push back your foe.

Because, why not...

2- StarFox BIG-BANG: Following the dissolution of Star Fox Team, Fox McCloud and Falco Lombardi decide to become engineers and move into an apartment together as they are having trouble repaying the loan his dad took out to build the Great Fox as the mercenary missions have dried up. One day, Krystal, a would be fighter pilot who makes ends meet as a starship valet, moves in next door. Fox is instantly smitten and devises a scheme to make his new neighbor fall in love with him. Join Fox, Falco, and their two friends Peppy Hare and Slippy Toad, on the zany hijinks they undertake to woo Krystal’s affection in this point and click adventure from Mages.

.
I think I made this one better…

I think they are both pretty cool and worth checking out (though a tad expensive), just know they are fundamentally a bit old. The first game especially (The Missing Heir) asks you to repeat your limited interactions without really suggesting it so you kind of fumble around a bit as a result. The second game, which I like more, is thankfully smoother. The story of both games are pretty cool and very different from typical Nintendo games. I don’t think it will happen, but I’d love to see the third game come back and for them especially to make a new modern game in the series.

I really want Nintendo to try their hand again at a restaurant/cafe management/cooking/baking type game.

Could be a spin off of Animal Crossing, Splatoon, Mario, Zelda, Kirby, etc., or just it's own thing. But I'd kinda want there to be references to stuff from other Nintendo games even then.

You know, Lon Lon milk, Yoshi Cookies, Min Min branded Ramen, Brewster's coffee, Maxim tomatoes etc. and so on.

I think it could be really cute. Basically go ahead and give us a modern Cooking Mama experience since that series seems off the rails at the moment.

Oh, yeah, I'd actually figured that connection had probably inspired your post, simply because it's such a perfect connection.

Federation Detective Club it is.

As far as Famicom Detective Club goes, it looks as though Xghost has you fairly well covered, but overall, if you have any interest in the genre, yeah, it's worth checking out.

I don’t think it will happen, but I’d love to see the third game come back and for them especially to make a new modern game in the series.
Indeed. The director over at Mages did express interest in making a new one, even.

And maybe, just maybe, Ayumi Tachibana can finally take her rightful place in the Smash roster.

I don't consider my ideas particularly crazy but I always wanted Nintendo to adapt the Mario & Luigi formula to other franchises. My top 2 picks would be:
  • Link & Zelda: Lots of potential for overworld puzzles with Link's various items and also a ton of potential for fun combat combining Link's items and Zelda's magic.
  • Kirby & MetaKnight & Dedede: 3 playable characters could be tough but M&L Paper Jam pulled it off well.

I'll send everyone home, except for the entirety of Intelligent Systems and lock all doors. I'll sit down menacingly at my table, my arms crossed and scratching my beard. And in my best(worst) duolingo Japanese I tell them that it's time for a real Paper Mario game.

First thing I'll do is
  • divorce the Mario IP from the Paper Mario game.
  • Rebrand the series and make it an original IP (I don't know, call it something like Paper Stories, the Story Unfolds, Paper RPG, or I'll call Square to come up with a name)
  • Old school Paper Mario gameplay returns, turn-based RPG with timing based inputs, partner characters etc. Same good writing and humour, same charming cast of characters of old but now completely new and not chained to the Mario IP.
  • Still have some homage to old Paper Mario games (perhaps Rawk Hawk or Moustafa make a cameo, or references to other Nintendo IP are made)
  • Approach whoever decided to suck the soul out of the Paper Mario games and prohibit Mario characters from being unique and tell them they suck and to leave me alone.

And I'll force everyone here to buy 10 copies.

My pipe dream that will never happen has always been Nintendo VS Capcom. Especially now that Smash is seemingly trapped in a development corner, it would be nice to have a more 'traditional' fighter with Nintendo characters.
