News Elon Musk and the End of Twitter

How can you be, by far, the richest man in the world, and then pick a fight with one of the few entities whose resources dwarf your own?

And who controls easy access to millions of devices

This is going to be like Nintendo and Atari/Tengen all over again 😂

I just want to see Elon lose a lot of money. The end goal should always be this. Unfortunately the US government funds this guy, basically.

I’ve got Mastedon and Hive so far, Hive looks to be the closer one to Twitter and it’s ease of use makes it the current front runner in my eyes, but yeah it really needs a desktop site.
I have Mastodon too. We should connect that one.

Not Hive though. Not happy with the Android beta, and the owners also i'm not a fan of.

As some guy on twit supposedly said:

"Twitter is going to make Elon a millionaire."

:>

First Elon thought he could topple Apple, now he's gonna take on... *checks* ... literally a continent
banned in Europe, and then Apple and Google kicking Twitter off their app stores would probably be the final nail in the coffin lmao.

Twitter bankruptcy, here we come lmao.

Speaking of Nazis, here's Elon replying to one of their biggest fans.

Honestly I want the EU to make some more tangible threats re:Musk, including possibly halting his expansion of his other companies into EU states (which will be fun anyway, because he wants to build a factory near Berlin and given his attitudes on worker safety and unionization...) if Twitter does not abide by hate speech laws.

ye Twitter is going to get banned from the EU and kicked off the Apple and Google app stores at this rate (misunderstanding my ass lmao). And later go down even further near bankruptcy as well.

Musk seems determined to pursue a collision course with the EU on multiple fronts, given how he's treating EU workers who, unlike their American counterparts, actually have a decent level of protection in law.

Twitter's "Trust and Safety Council" is gone lmao.
I'm going to be impressed if Twitter even lasts a whole month in 2023 before going bankrupt or whatever intervention happens (since it'll unfortunately last for the rest of 2022)

(and ngl, I actually hope Twitter goes bankrupt soon and either shuts down or Elon is forced to sell it. Tho admittedly; I prefer the latter since Twitter still has some use surprisingly. Although only Big Tech would actually be able to manage it. And I like to think they're waiting for Twitter to go bankrupt so they can buy it for basically pennies since they would likely still have use for twitter for their own benefits :d)

Bummed none of the alternatives have taken off. Hive looked promising, but after the security failures no one returned to it so back to Twitter for now :(
I’ve honestly thought about reactivating my account. Not having a Twitter account is actually really pretty annoying if I need to go to the website for any reason.

Yeah they’ve made it increasingly miserable even before Musk took over to view Twitter without an account. At least the “say you’ll login, then hit cancel” trick works if you want to view an accounts most recent tweets without properly being signed in.

it's been thirty days and my account should be fully deleted

let's see if that helps me when the data breach occurs

If you have Firefox this helps a lot with that

Twitter lost the German lawsuit. The judgement, announced by judge Ina Frost of the District Court of Frankfurt am Main today at 10 AM CET, reads that Twitter must delete content deemed illegal within 24 hours forever, remove retweets of said content if the number is greater than 10, and remove retweets that carry the same sentiment but with different phrasing ("kerngleiche Inhalte"), however a general surveillance of all tweets is not necessary. Should Twitter not abide by these rules, they may be fined 250.000 € per ignored case and Twitter's managers may be arrested for disobedience of court orders.

The verdict is part of a preliminary injunction put forth by the official against antisemitism of the state of Baden-Württemberg, Dr. Michael Blume, who reported a campaign defaming him as an anti-Semite. The case was financed by anti-hate speech organization HateAid and represented by Würzburg-based lawyer Chan-jo Jun, who had previously won a similar case against Facebook for Greens party member Renate Künast.

Twitter may appeal the court's decision to a higher court.

I've never had a Twitter account. I use this:

Not that they're currently in good standing with the EU, but pretty sure this absolutely would violate the GDPR in several ways.

So basically just a continuation of "Twitter never figured out how to monetize itself" just with the world's thinnest skinned muskrat at the helm and even worse ideas.

Meh. Mask off fool. Never had he had to build goodwill with anyone before has he? Many have tried and failed to buy popularity and control the narrative about themselves, he's just one of many.

He definitely seems to be inviting it though

Kinda wondering how much longer before TSLA shareholders revolt at this point.
I don't have the link on hand but I already saw an article talking about how some of the bigger board members were asking for his removal as CEO so depending on your threshold for what counts as "revolt" you might have to wait a negative amount of time ☺️ Love to hear good news sometimes

would be even better if he loses ownership of Twitter as a whole :d

This man was always a snake whose money comes from the racist exploitation of South Africans, but he really fell down the right-wing rabbit hole because he is upset at trans people, huh? I knew that bigots are irrational people, but this might be the biggest L in history based on simple bigotry. This chump overpaid by literal billions of dollars for Twitter and then killed it while getting shoved out of Tesla leadership because a couple of trans people made him feel bad just by existing.

Oh sorry, I should've clarified, I was referring to the Tesla CEO position. Given that Twitter's a private company now, the Twitter ownership is probably going to stay his, short of him either abandoning ship and offloading it to someone, or like... losing it in a lawsuit or something. Either way though I hope he feels like shit <3

eh, I don't think Twitter being a private company would make him immune to losing the company.

And ye, I think it's the end of the line for him as Tesla's CEO. Looking at it now, the dive looks to be the size of Mount Everest itself :d

I think I saw the same one yesterday, though I'm having a hard time finding it again now. They said the Tesla board could be in violation of fiduciary duty if something isn't done about Musk.

Which'd be rad.
