StarTopic Pokémon Scarlet & Pokémon Violet |ST| Who You Callin' Paldea, Friend?

I hate the vocal track added to the gym music. Hated it in SwSh too. Am I alone?
I do too. It was better in Sw/Sh and fit more, plus it was with a much better gym track so it worked okay (even if still not my favorite thing).

Here, though, it completely changes the gym theme from a cool, jazzy track to… cheesy, too-happy fluff? There’s no intensity to it, no “okay now things are getting serious” at all

It’s also really, really repetitive. The vocal line is quite short and it just repeats endlessly; I’d dislike it a lot less of it was longer, changed as it went, or at least maybe dropped out every other refrain or something.

I find it very funny in my first titan battle when
it becomes a duo battle with Arven. I literally had only one Pokémon left and it died in the first turn without doing any damage and Arven just beat the entire boss for me.
in general I don’t find the game too easy but that was a bit ridiculous.

The town at the very bottom left/south west of the map with the gym leader with pink hair. They spawn there at night outside the town.
Oh. That could explain it, I haven’t been anywhere near there yet, my highest level Pokemon is 30, lol. I was hoping to evolve my Charcadet sooner than later but maybe it’ll have to wait, but he’s really falling behind stat-wise.

As a small aside (if you or anyone else can help), is there a consistent way to lock onto a Pokemon in the wild? I can't tell if it's L or zL but I just want to lock on a Pokemon to see if I have caught it before or even if it's male/female and if it's one of the alternate forms I'm looking for. Even when I'm surrounded by wild Pokemon the camera just wants to spin around behind my back
If I remember correctly it is zL and you kinda have to hold the button to be able to lock onto a Pokemon. Sometimes the distance is hard to tell (aka how close you have to be to be able to lock on) and if there are a group of pokemon you kinda have to slightly adjust the camera while holding zL to switch between pokemon. It is definitely not a precise lock on tho. Also, besides just looking at the pokemon itself, I don't think the game says if you have caught that specific form before (just if you caught the pokemon before I think). Also, I think, but am not certain, that when you press zL it locks in the direction your character is looking so that might explain the camera spin around you have experienced

What's strange/"bad" about Flamigo is it's base stats are strong enough to be a stage 3 mon, but you can catch it during the tutorial. It has the base stats of something like a Scyther, which in the original Pokemon games was a mid to late game Pokemon. For game balance you probably shouldn't be able to catch a Flamigo until around the point your Pokemon are in there mid to late 30's where many of you early game mons are starting to hit their stage 3's.

This is a major design problem with an open world game that Pokémon would have to come up with a method to solve if they cared to though.

You could restrict players access to scyther in RBY because you physically couldn't get to the safari zone until mid to late mid game. If you want to stick with a true open world design, there's no way to stop a player getting that Pokémon early purely by chance by them happening to accidentally pick the direction where they lived.

Gamefreaks solution is probably "we don't care if a player unintentionally trivialises their run, we don't expect anyone to lose any AI battles regardless."

The game has a solution implemented in that it makes higher-leveled Pokémon harder to catch until you have enough Gym badges and it extends obedience limitations to Pokémon you catch yourself instead of only applying them to outsiders. Neither of those are relevant to Flamigo because it's found below Lv. 10 in an area you can reach pre-timeskip before arriving at Mesogoza.

Eh, it's not really a flaw, it's completely working as intentioned

A 500 BST single stager with type advantage against a good chunk of the early story fights (Bug, Grass, Rock, Dark)? Flamigo is very much an intended thing, probably designed to give new players/children an edge.

It's honestly pretty solid difficulty balancing on its own terms, but arguably the games don't need anything making them easier

Music in general bit mid IMO, but music is always very subjective obviously. There's some alright tracks and I like how many different random battle themes there are though.

god I hate doing raids so much. trying to get into an online raid takes like a minute and most of the time the game just tells you "yeah no" and you have to do that twice if you want to refresh the page, except when it locks up and you have to close the game. whenever I get into one I get paired with goobers using the iguanas who end up eating shit and giving a free boost to the thing we're trying to kill

how are fucking XY still the pinnacle of online play for this series

One time I got into a raid and it literally froze after we all sent out our Pokémon. It didn't even time out or disconnect or anything. Had to restart the game

Hope you enjoy doing like 15 of them if you want to change your (one of them) Pokemon's Tera type.

I am legit curious how people are gonna take on Charizard, since that'll just eat Miraidon alive and make any raid with Koraidon insta-lose. I guess HP/Atk Dachsbun with Choice Band or Assault Vest? There's so many moves it can hit you with that it's basically impossible to wall without the AI tripping up.

Back on the subject of music, I am overall mixed but still pretty positive on the OST. I definitely like it more than Sw/Sh, which I only remember like... 2 tracks from? The gym battle theme (which rules) and the bagpipe-y wild area music, which is fine. I'll have to see where it lands once I hear the rest of it, since I'm still relatively early.

Side note, some of the music is oddly giving me Skyward Sword vibes, especially the eastern area around Zapapico. There's a lot of Lanayru in there, both the mining facility parts and the sand sea music, too, in spots.

Trying to trade some exclusives with Austin John's trade codes and Violet seems to be overwhelmingly more popular lol. Only getting fellow Violets online.

I haven't gotten too far into the game to notice much music aside from the starting area themes, but I do like how the western part of the map has music with a distinct Western (as in the genre) feel

So the first Titan, Klawf, really is just kinda sitting there out in the open, huh? I’m not sure I like that. It feels like the Titan should be the “boss” of a dungeon. It doesn’t have to be a cave or even indoors, a canyon or something would be great. Just an area you have to work your way through, and when you get to the end, that’s when you see the Titan. The way it is now, Klawf is literally just waiting in plain sight on the way to a Pokémon center. That’s really pretty disappointing.

Did you fight it or did you just spot it?

This is ridiculous. Koraidon is clearly the cooler legendary. It’s not even close! He’s cute, adorable, and derpy. Moraidon is stiff and weird.

Justice for Koraidon!
But screen eyes and wheels!

Why is Koraidon spread like that anyway lol

It's always him.
Okay it's hilarious that my character somehow correctly sussed him out as being super strong then haha. No wonder Rika was amused.

Yeah, the Titans aren't that hard to get to. I think in future games the lead up to them could stand to be more elaborate

his is ridiculous. Koraidon is clearly the cooler legendary
Koraidon >>> Miraidon hell yeah

To me it's funnier that Miraidon wants sandwiches so bad, he looks like he should be drinking oil or something

Everytime I see footage of the game I swing between wanting to play the game and wanting to pass on it. At this point I think I'm waiting for some patches or a discount.

Not sure I posted yet about this, but the OST is such a banger. My problems with the games are massive, but the OST is not one of them.
Whew. Especially some of the later themes, made me think I was playing different games for a second lol.

The best themes I've heard have been from the Team Star Route. I also like how they specifically apparently have a musician that's actually writing the music. It's amazing.

So the Team Star boss theme literally just becomes a Xenoblade Unique Monster theme for a sec there huh

I kinda liked Bombirdier's rock throwing thing but I feel like it could've potentially been expanded with more of a longer leadup. But the fact that it at least has a gimmick is pretty neat and gives me hope that they'll expand on it

It is frankly astonishing how easily addictive these games are. I turn them on with the intention of playing for 5-10 minutes and hours literally pass. Often, the bulk of that time can be spent in just a single area! I don't even understand how.

Yeah the music is sooo good.

That was the first Titan I did haha. I also think the lead ups for the Orthworm and Dodonko Titans have potential, and could easily be expanded upon. Having to actually chase down a Pokemon is cool!

Okay, I'm gonna go venture into the Crater now.

Yeah, the music is fantastic. The Team Star Grunt and Terra Raid themes have no right being as banging as they are, like what the fuck

I have a bias towards the last section of the game. Made me think I was listening to Nier and Battle Network music for a moment. It was surreal, in a good way.

Has anyone found a 6-star raid yet? I unlocked them but haven't actually found any

EDIT: Never mind, i hadn't unlocked them yet lol
Do you need
every single Gimmighoul found in the wild to evolve it? Because I want a shiny charm but no way am I doing it. Arceus' Spiritomb was bad enough
Look up all the watchtowers, there's maybe 10 or so of them. Each of them has a Chest Gimmighoul which gives you 50-80 coins, and apparently they respawn. I'm at around 750 after going to all the watchtowers and otherwise just playing normally

They all have a chance to respawn each day, and there is a guy in Medali who gives you some each day.

That's a big relief, thanks :)

No, you need 999 coins. Follow the advice above to get them quickly

Yeah kinda but also sun and moon.
I think the big difference is that it's easier to give yourself a hard time, if that makes sense? Like sure EXP share is always on, but since Pokemon spawn in the overlord, you can just avoid them. And trainers won't battle you til you ask them. I actually had a relatively tough time at some of the gyms/Titans/Team Star camps since I was only getting EXP from the occasional catches and trainer battles.
