I think they’re probably going with the more populous cities, and Madrid is more populated than any of those, so that would explain it.
But it has no eye-catchers as part of the sights. Something all of the other city courses do have…

I mean, they could just throw in some landmarks from outside of the city as they’ve done with some of the other city courses.

It's kinda night and day isn't it.

Can we just appreciate how Nintendo is gradually adding more hazards to the Booster tracks? I remember that was a big complaint for Wave 1, half the courses felt pretty static (Coconut Mall, Toad Circuit, and Sky Garden had no obstacles whatsoever, and Tokyo Blur only had thwomps during one section). This wave has chain chomps in London Loop and Peach Gardens, Thwomps, Whomps, and moving traffic in Berlin Byways, the train in Merry Mountain, those weird fishes in Boo Lake, the wigglers in Maple Treeway, boulders in Rock Rock Mountain, and floating chain chomps in 3DS Rainbow Road. It makes the courses feel more dynamic. Then add anti gravity, underwater, half pipes, and gliding, and now these courses are a lot more interesting.

Think it's just the nature of those earlier tracks being less complex and easier really. (With Toad Circuit being the first track in 7 so it can't be anything complex)

Yup, there aren’t really any major additions to any of the BCP tracks when it comes to hazards. Wave 1’s selections were just simpler overall.

I can't wait for the first real look at a remastered Double Dash track in Wave 4, since there's apparently 4 tracks coming from that game (@MondoMega I think you said that), there's plenty of opportunity for my favourite tracks to make it in. Can't repeat myself enough, Daisy Cruiser, DK Mountain, Waluigi Stadium, Mushroom City/Bridge, Dino Dino Jungle and Wario Colosseum all sound like great options, and if I had to pick I'd choose Daisy Cruiser, DK Mountain, Mushroom City/Bridge and Wario Colosseum and while that's probably most of the line up, Wario Colosseum is not gonna make it in, and Waluigi Stadium is the one taking it's spot.

Waluigi Stadium is seemingly making it in for sure as it was on the original banner leak. The other three are all up for grabs.

That's right; unless Waluigi Stadium was outright cut instead of just delayed to later (don't think so though). I wish Wario Colosseum had a shot but it isn't looking good.

Kinda holding out hope we get blindsided by one of the four picks; but they didn't go for any real surprises with N64 or 3DS (or Wii until Rainbow Road in Wave 6) so I guess that isn't a requirement. The afformentioned Waluigi Stadium, Dino Dino Jungle, DK Mountain, Daisy Cruiser and either Mushroom Bridge or Mushroom City are the options we currently know of from Tour (in the game or datamined).

My main reservation about a “blindside” pick is that most of them just aren’t interesting. Nobody is expecting GCN Luigi Circuit, but nobody really wants it either.

GCN Bowser’s Castle is really the only GCN track that I’d consider to be a good “surprise”.

Tracks I’m most excited to play: a top 8.

1. 3DS Rainbow Road
2. DS Peach Gardens
3. Wii Maple Treeway
4. Merry Mountain
5. Tour Berlin Byways
6. GBA Boo Lake
7. Tour London Loop
8. 3DS Alpine Pass

The Moon Cup is going to be top notch I think. I really like Berlin (it’s also one of my favourite cities I visited). The other three tracks in that cup are good too. Either thematically or gameplay wise. Based on the names, the Moon Cup may be my favourite cup in MK8DX over all.

After seeing the trailer I guess my hype will be:

1 Merry Mountain - new to me and the Christmas synergy has made this the poster child of wave 3 hype.

2 Maple Treeway - I know walking in my hype has been on Rock Rock, but Maple Treeway is my favorite/best retro here. More technical and a crowd favorite. Also excited it’s earlier than I expected and looks so good. Only question is if the half pipe is in.

3 Rock Rock Mountain - I’m so happy Rock Rock is in!! It was my most wanted track from Mario Kart 7 to make the base game. I’ve spent so much energy hyping/willing it to be here, I’m a tad spent for the final stretch lol. Number one in my heart.

4 Rainbow Road - So historically I don’t care for this one much, but the hype here and in the trailer has me more excited than I expected. I’m hoping it’s one I enjoy more in Mario Kart 8 than I did in its original game.

5 Boo Lake - Great course, definitely wanted it. Mixed feelings on the water and it seemingly not functioning like Ghost Valley. Excited though.

6 Peach Gardens - I like this one a lot. It and Boo Lake I’d normally put above Rainbow Road 7, but it being shown early has my hype resting.

7 Berlin - New to me, but another city course and I don’t know the layout. Resting hype.

8 London - New to me, but people here keep saying it is the worst City course so I’m keeping expectations low lol. Still excited though!

I wonder if Waluigi Stadium was specifically delayed for some reason
Maybe they’re still working on the halfpipes? Maple Treeway and Merry Mountain are fairly simple, but Waluigi Stadium uses a bunch of them.
I think it was delayed due to the halfpipe heavy nature of the track itself. This wave is introducing the halfpipes to a whole new audience. Waluigi Stadium is the second most halfpipe heavy track in the series. Not a good combo for newcomers.

Imagine you're not familiar with new Nintendo stuff. You're playing online races and Waluigi Stadium is chosen. You've never seen this track before. It's pretty fun. All the sudden, you see @Raccoon In a Waluigi Wiggler going up a fucking wall.

So, what do you all think the last SNES track will be? Still Vanilla Lake because of the "ad" in Coconut Mall?

I don't really see the need for a Vanilla Lake, when we already have Snow Land, when it's looking and feeling really similar. And now Boo Lake fits the Ghost Valley archetype.

What's left?
Koopa Beach, when I believe Koopa Cape is in the same wave, so that doesn't seem likely (at least if they don't switch around the SNES track)
Choco Island. I think it has a pretty high chance. Choco Mountain was in wave 1, but there isn't really another course looking like this

But I think a Bowser's Castle is the most likely at this point. They are datamined for Tour if I am not mistaken, and the GBA slots seem to be filled with other cool remakes of the tracks. I think for the last GBA slot, something like Riverside Park is much more likely for the BCP than a GBA Bowser's Castle. To finally give us a retro Bowser's Castle in this game, a SNES one would be a good solution I think.

What are your predictions for the SNES track? I am curious to find out :)

Yeah I'm all in on it being SNES Bowser Castle.

Choco Island, Koopa Beach, and Bowser Castle are all good contenders for the BCP as unrepresented themes. The GBA equivalents of those are good to consider for GBA personally. One theme gets left out. I don’t think they pick Riverside Park for the BCP, but it does look very cool and different enough that it’s not just a Donut Plains equivalent anymore so if it happens it wouldn’t be that bad at all.

I wonder if Waluigi Stadium was specifically delayed for some reason
Maybe there was some major glitch with it they needed time to resolve? Like a massive unintended shortcut due to 200cc. I don’t buy Magic Man’s theory of easing people into half pipes. DK Summit has even more half pipes and seems to be a strong candidate for Wave 4. You’d get double half pipes then, but that didn’t stop Mushroom Gorge and Sky High Sundae being back to back.

I feel like the DLC is coming in hot mostly give Wave 1’s launch state.

I think the final SNES track is going to be a Bowser Castle unless the GBA slot we don't know ends up being a Bowser Castle. At the moment, I think it will be SNES Bowser Castle and the unknown GBA slot is not going to be a Bowser Castle and could be something like Riverside Park.

If we don’t get a Koopa Beach or Shy Guy Beach, I’m going to hope ever stronger we get Peach Beach. No beach course would be super disappointing.

This wave was announced a week too soon, I'm dying over here... People have all but stopped voting for the last wave courses online, it's time to move on!

Wave 2 Banners + Cameos
I plan on updating the OP to discuss Wave 3 by the end of the week. In the meantime, like with Wave 1, I'd like to share the current banners here for posterity. As you all know, I hid two cameos in each banner, dedicating space to the top posters of this thread with their favorite characters.

For Banner 1, I decided to focus on myself, since I was the top poster in the thread. Using New York Minute as the background and taking the banner that would have Mario on it already, I decided to make cameos based on the other ST's I wrote this year. Thus, we have PAC-MAN to represent PAC-MAN MUSEUM + and Classic Tails to represent Sonic Origins.

Banner 2, depicting Sky-High Sundae, features Marx from Kirby to represent @MondoMega and Iroha Tamaki from Puella Magi Madoka to represent @xghost777.

Banner 3, depicting Sydney Sprint features the avatar of @Skipper93653 and Nenji Ogata from 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim to represent @Thunder84.

Lastly, Banner 4, depicting Waluigi Pinball, features Taki Tachibana from Your Name to represent @Magic-Man and Classic Sonic to represent @totofogo.

Thank you to everyone who has posted in this thread in 2022! Looking forward to Wave 3 (and a few new banner cameos following a different, potentially more obvious theme) - let's hope for some great races on the new tracks!

Now I want Taki in Mario Kart. Wait, Mario Kart Double Dash with Taki and Mitsuha!

Yikes, Peach Gardens in Tour is soooo easy and simplified. The obstacles are basically non existent and the sharp turns are made looser.

Yeah that sounds like a Tour track alright.

Not meant as a dig on Tour, mind you, they sort of have to design like that to work with how the game controls on mobile.

That's the weird thing though, a lot of tracks are kept the same. The changes here were pointless
Nah, it makes sense why they did them. It’s pretty much impossible to make crazy sharp turns in Tour, so the turns that used to have two grass patches wouldn’t have really worked that well.

The only major change I’m seeing that I’d consider a pointless downgrade is the second turn. Not sure why they made the road so big there. Maybe to prevent the crazy shortcut?
