StarTopic Pokémon Scarlet & Pokémon Violet |ST| Who You Callin' Paldea, Friend?

Sonavagun my game crashed while one of my mons was evolving. Then after loading up the game again, my mon’s level went up, but it didn’t evolve. BOLLOCKS

Got a few nice 5 star raids spawned today, but they both have strong dragon moves and everybody online defaults to their box legendary lol.

Going to need to pump up a fairy, good thing I caught some Iron Valiants.

Level 75 is very high for 5 star, I wasn't expecting the progression to skyrocket so fast.

Fuck, can't believe I wrote that wall of text and I forgot to mention my biggest gripe with SV's game design: why on earth is the battle gameplay still sooo slow?!

Plz GF have animations and text play out at once for stat moves :-(

I can't believe we still have to be tortured by that:
uses x
animation plays
att rose
animation
def rose

Gimmighoul's evolution has a signature move that scatters coins on the ground like payday, I'm going to have to test and see if it the same rate or not.

It's funny because it does this for some things, but not others. Like Anger Point is terrible, but I've noticed other moves don't play the animation 5 times like it does.

I spend way too much time messing around in the overworld instead of playing the actual game. I'm out here using some 15 pokemon lmao.

Not sure if this should be spoiler tagged but word was that it's broken. Like payday would never give you that much money.

This. It takes just too much time and a lot of it feels like the game is loading something in the background lol. I did not appreciate the Pokemon battle with two Pokemon that knew u-turn because of this.

My sentiment everytime one of my Pokemon breaks the mold.

Yet they managed to make a faster gameplay system for raids. I wonder if we will see the battle system changed in Gen 10 or remakes.

It just gave me the same rate as Payday, but maybe I'll do some more digging.

Also worth noting, it's fast enough to keep pace with you on your 'raidon.

Yeah I don't understand why they haven't streamlined the process yet. Even stat changes get stated one by one instead of all at once. Battles should go a lot faster.

Little moneygrubber has an evo? Welp I know which Pokemon I'm training next
It has a special evolution method, which you might be able to pick up on by exploring.

You need 999 Gimmighoul coins, which it uses up when it evolves.

Oh, well thank you for telling me, means I can put that on the backburner for now. Get back in my party, Fraxure.

Is there a list of transfer-only Pokémon?

Also I’ve completed one gym and one Titan, and I’m just wandering around wonder trading lol

These will be transferable in Spring 2023 when the HOME update comes out.

According the the lore video it can only evolve via 999 Gimmigoul coins collected in game. Also Gimmigoul (chest form) has pretty low stats and a pretty lackluster movepool. But it's evolution has a really powerful unique move and good stats. So it's like another Meltan situation, but Meltan was still okay in battle.

Went into the Clavell fight with a squad in the low 50s and got wrecked, so I came back after doing some Dex completion and reworking my team a bit. Quaquaval gets kinda nutty once it gets Aqua Steps up and it's packing decent coverage.

I liked what they did with the Elite Four. SwSh just reused GLs and SM had rematches for Hala and Olivia, which makes sense in that they want the Elite Four to be characters you know of, but it was a little lame to just do rematches. Of course, Larry steals the show here, and continues to be the GOAT. It's also an interesting wrinkle that you can only use Tera once during the whole gauntlet, since the orb only refills at a Center. Ended up not using Tera at all, for Geeta I just had Skeledirge Torch Sing its way through her team so it'd have enough SpA to wipe Glimmora out with Shadow Ball.

Current team is Skeledirge/Gallade/Toxtricity/Kingambit/Sylveon/Garchomp. Probably not the greatest but eh, it works well enough.

I ended up retiring my Quaxly because even with his unique move he really just didn't pack a punch. First time I retired a starter halfway through my playthrough.

Also when I did the elite four I thought I used my terra each match? Or is this only for rematching the elite four?

Uh... So, anyone else notice during the Titan questline that, whenever you enter one of the caves after fighting one of the Titans, there's always this random pokeball sitting in the middle of the cave? Specifically a Heal Ball. It's in every cave, just... sitting there during the cutscenes. At first, I thought it belonged to Arven's pokemon, but it's already there when you enter the cave, and it's left behind when you leave. No one ever acknowledges it in the cutscenes. I tried going back into the caves after the cutscenes are done, but I can't get in. Is it just some... random glitch?
For me, its a quick ball that appears in places where you would get out of the building and in a certain cutscene.

While on my way to the first Titan, I found a Shiny Growlithe!! I named him Goldie. I already have a Fire type on the team, but I'll consider this capture a good luck charm - which it was, since the Titan Klawf was no problem. And now I can dash on Koraidon! I was wondering why it was kinda slow at first, but this explains it, lol.

Alriiiiiight apparently my copy arrives tomorrow which is MUCH earlier than I was anticipating!

Patch be damned, let's gooooooo

DJ G-rave is possibly the greatest character ever in the history of Pokemon as a franchise. 11/10 no notes.

Doing some light surprise trading during some downtime, I'm glad to see that the launch tradition of 75% of surprise trade being route one Pokemon continues.

Remember folks, don't be part of the problem, at least surprise trade some Pokemon from after the first hour of the game lol.

I’ve been trying to collect a bunch of drifloons to send over since they’re Scarlet exclusive. They’re harder to catch than you’d think though lol

Funnily enough, I surprise traded some Quaxly earlier since I now have a Ditto, and the first Pokemon I got was a Tatsugiri. Most of the others were route one Mons though, bar the Espathra.

Still, I'll keep on trading them, it's costing me nothing but time (and I'll be breeding them for friends anyway), and Wonder Trade is all about the positive surprises, like the version exclusives/starters/breeding rejects that offer you a leg-up etc.

The thing about rotating teams is sometimes your coverage is awful and you get nearly wiped by a freakin' Murkrow
wasn't even rotating teams I just have 2 fire types and shinx and every thing on that route particularly nacli can clap me

IMO the main city should have been an instanced linear area like the school is, because that's the main spot that the game looks a mess to me. Especially comparing it to the main city in sword and shield (which I didn't play, but watched some videos of to compare), GF clearly just has a much better handle on more linear fixed camera areas and the main city doesn't really benefit from being fully open in any way. Between the copy pasted storefronts, flashing characters and flat lighting, it's a mess.. and it already is gated by a loading screen anyway.

Could have been an OOT/TP hyrule field -> castle town type of moment.

The actual open world fares much better off of course since it's more visually simple, even the few towns I've seen so far.

Between the slow gameplay and the sluggish framerate, I actually try not to get in wild battles more than I need to. It's so sluggish.

I do really wish battles went a bit faster. I used Klawf because it's one of my favorite designs of the gen but Anger Shell having 3 buffs and 2 debuffs just makes every fight that it activates in take an hour, all of that should be sped up by like times 5, especially now that we can look up status, stat increases, weather duration etc mid battle. If you're gonna force animations to be on at least try and make the combat a bit snappier.

Thankful I don't have to go through dynamax animations in VGC anymore so that's something.

While the ending set pieces doesn't make up for the bad performance and polish, I felt like the story overall, was a real strong point of the game.

Felt like I was experiencing a pokemon movie

I kinda wish there was a way to drop into random people’s games like Genshin Impact or something

I think I'm FINALLY at the point to take on the Fire team, that took a lot longer than I thought it would. Of course already having like 120+ pokemon in my dex might have something to do with that... whoops.

The clever uses of Terastalizing continue to impress me, and I really wonder what some of the higher level endgame stuff in this game is going to look like:

An electric tera'd Mismagius with levitate is rough if you're underleveled

It does keep its old typings after tera. So bite or Crunch your way through.

What? Then why couldn't I do Earthquake to a poison Tera Staravia?
Hmm… I don’t know! From my understanding and everything I’m reading, it should become pure Poison type once Tera’d and be vulnerable to Ground moves

How far do you guys recommend getting to before venturing off on your path in the beginning? I just got to Mesagoza and has my first tera battle.

I love the feeling of venturing into an area underlevelled and getting out with my own ingenuity (aka healing item spam)

I’m half tempted to wait out to see if GameFreak patches this game before getting much more into it. My last play session was almost in slow motion lol

So I just did my first session of camping.

That was delightful.

The sheer joy of seeing my Pokemon taking a nice nap after a long session...

Do not disturb them. They are sleepy.

And then being able to give them a good bath after taking out the titan...it's simple, yes, but I love it, more than the camping from Sword and Shield. I find myself really liking this game, even with its technical shortcomings and issues. I'm admittedly surprised!

it's a very charming complete fucking disaster

I greatly prefer this over sword and shield being mid in every respect

I know they said you can complete the game in any order you want but it's really not true because the game is designed for you to go west first before going east lol. I learned this by doing the bug type gym 3rd and having to face Namona for the 3rd time. Her Pokemon were leveled over 20 but the gym was around 15. I haven't done the first Team Star raid to the west(did one to the east) and I know the boss will be around level 20. Which is lower than the first team star base to the east.

as someone who went east for a bit and is now out west, things aren't easier out here! you kind of have to do what you can and keep trucking

That “correct order” thread mark is… all over the place lol. Is there really nothing in the game that guides you that way outside of just general level curves you see of the wild pokemon?
