Is this your first time playing Persona 5?

Yeah at that point it's pretty useless as distinctions go.

Of course, I can just hope that they actually get things right on the first go next time so that the expanded P6 release doesn't need to be a full rewrite...
Yeah I've often wanted to counter people complaining about them not offering Royal as DLC by telling them that. "Okay, sure, it's DLC. BUT, you can only play it by starting a new game file, and it's still $60. Happy now?" because you KNOW that's what Atlus would do.

I fully expect Atlus to go with the same approach for Persona 6. New game plus upgrade a few years later. No DLC option. They might find that model more appealing now more than ever considering how slow their release output has gotten. They take an entire console generation to make one new brand new Persona game and they haven't been able to fill the time in between with cheaper handheld games. SMT V did fine but that also took a long time to make. Soul Hackers 2 didn't do well. Etrian Odyssey and Persona Q are nowhere in site at the moment. Persona may become one of their few money makers so finding ways to rerelease the games is in their best interest.

Look all I’m asking for is like a $10-20 discount if I own the base game. Is that too much to ask?

Hard mode is definitely living up to the name so far. I imagine it’ll get easier once I can start upgrading the baton pass.

Hard isn’t that bad in general, especially once you get upgrades to a lot of things. It is harder near the beginning of the game, for sure. Royal gives you so many tools and options once it lets loose, though

Btw @Imitatio did P5R click for you this time around then? I don't remember if we ever talked about this (and I'm sorry if we did and I forgot!)
I'm certainly more invested this time around; and I find the experience much more pleasant on a handheld, basically confirming me in my assumption that I simply cannot stomach such a game on a (pure) home console anymore. I haven't been able to play it for too long thus far, though, real life and such getting in the way, sadly. So, for now I feel it's too early to make a definitive statement. (Still going through the first palace, but I'm close to the end!)
I can see myself liking it more this time around for sure, that much I'm willing to say this early on. It probably won't ever have the same impact on me as P4G on the Vita did back then, though; but it might just end up closer to P3. Let's see!

Resurfacing again to say this game rips.

So incredible. I'm in late July and I'm obsessed.

I'm so out of sync with the wider gaming community/media because I have the "Why isn't everyone talking about Persona 5?!" sickness and then I remember this game is like 6 years old and everyone already did.

Crossing my fingers for a portable P6 option. I can't believe Sony abandoned their portable option. (I can, I just hate that they did.)

I can't wait for P3P and P4G re-releases to experience these again. I have P5S standing by after this, so hopefully, my P5 thirst will be quenched. I guess nothing is stopping me from just replaying P5R.

Anyone else having issues with the network feature constantly disconnecting during long play sessions? It's annoying for when I get answered questions in class and can't cheat. lol

Haha, I turned it off because of that 😁

It disconnects when you turn-off the console or when you go in the Switch menu for something like 15 seconds at least. If you just play few hours without going to the Switch menu, it's ok.

Anyway it's annoying af. The way they designed this feature is just bad, it should just connect when you need it. But it doesn't work like that. :/

Yeah, the thieves guild connection has been spotty for me as well. Even when seemingly connected, I encountered at least one instance where I couldn't bring up the results for a question, even though I should have been able to on paper. That never happened to me with the PS version.

Yeah I never had issues with it on Playstation.

Anyways I gotta remember to keep stocked up on gifts. I hung out with Sojiro to get to the next confidant rank and didn't have a gift so he liked me only a single point more 😢

Ever since I’ve hit an important event in October, my OG Switch’s fan have been going crazy everytime.. Has anyone had fan issues while playing the game on Switch? Maybe because the game is intensive on original Switch models or something.

Weirdly enough, my Switch which is the OG from 2017 acts really weird specifically on Atlus games?? SMTV and Persona 5 Royal made my Switch fan go BLITZ fast the moment I open the games up. The fans go so fast that you feel the switch vibrating. I put my switch to sleep, back on and then it's back to normal. All in handheld btw.

I haven't reached October either, currently in July. This has happened twice.

Two bosses down, 20 hours in. I feel like I was missing some sort of tactic for that fight though, because five clones attacking me, sometimes more than once in a turn? Hoo that was tough.

Finally got this at a reasonable price. I never got to finish the game original game on PS4 so it was cool to have an "enhanced" version of it to finally get through it and portability certainly helps a lot, especially for a series like this that really benefits from small sessions that start to accumulate in many hours.

Few things that I can notice is that the battle system is very, very polished, is pretty much one of the best Turn-Based systems out there that is very easy to handle and rather quick in its execution. Plus, the "sim" aspect of the game has always been rather addictive and makes you want to waste a lot of time in them.

... But that's the thing about Persona 5, IT WASTES A LOT OF TIME. Sometimes the game forces you to do rather unnecessary stuff to progress the plot or even the own fights, I think the most obvious example is the fight against Kamoshida that immediately makes you think that you have to target other parts of him or enemies like it happens in other JRPGs... and you have, but you can't do it immediately, you have to frikking wait for the guy to heal himself and just then they give you the option to target the cup he uses and later he calls for one of his illusions to help him and once again the obvious thing is to destroy that thing before it does anything... except you can't until it uses the frikking attack that almost kills the whole party and just then you are finally allowed to kill it. Seriously, there are a lot of unnecessary steps for what should be a rather simple first boss.

Because yeah, that's the first frikking boss and things don't get much better from that. It reminded me how atrocious the pacing is in this game and if I remember correctly, both the Palaces and character work only get worse from here so is not like there's much motivation to keep going (and is probably the reason why I stopped playing it in the first place) but eh, again, portability helps a bit.

My tears of joy/hype when you get the upper hand on a boss when the amazing boss fight music kicks into gear.

Rushing into palaces to get the treasure with instrumental "Life Will Change" blaring never fucking gets old either.

50 hours and finished the 3rd palace and I find out theres 7 palaces in addition to mementos...? No freaking wonder this game is 100 hours long holy shit.

Just about to start the cruise ship now. My memory of playing the original is pretty fuzzy at this point but I remember this one being a real pain lol. Gonna make an extra-long trek through Mementos, gear everyone up to the max, fuse a new crew of Personas etc before even starting. Wish me luck!

At the same place as you, but I’ve heard the tedious sections in that palace were shortened quite a bit, so it seems better.

Yeah they definitely made some smaller improvements to the 7th Palace to make it a bit less tedious. There aren't a huge amount of changes there, but enough that it helps.

I am playing the game in hard mode and its been pretty breezy to ok. Until now, and while the difficulty is not the real problem it adds a layer of baloney to the fight. The fight I am referring to is the Okamura boss fight. Ill add context in spoilers.

This boss fight is not difficult, I bet I could beat it in normal. Regardless the design of the fight in hard mode has become a cheap. So there are 4 waves of multiple enemies with a varied selection of weaknesses, and after they take 2 actions (not necessary turns) they flee and get replace with a new batch. The first 3 waves are manageable with baton passes but the fourth requires buffs to at least manage. And having a reset that far in a fight, with a countdown lol, its hilarious.

This fight does highlight a feature I hope P6 can address and its the solo element party members. SH2 sorta did it with customizable parties but PQ2 had it best where every party member would have their base persona and a partnered persona that gave them a couple skills. This is not to take away from the system, its fantastic for strategizing while also giving characters personality and not turning them to mindless demons cause that's SMT thing (which I adore). Regardless I am having a blast with this difficulty and challenge and I am not a quitter. As a SJR fan I am aware how Atlus makes cheap fight lol.

EDIT: I did it lol. Starting Team comp was the key of course.

I'm in mid October right before the culture festival and kinda worried if I can max out all social links with where I'm at in the game right now... anyone know how I'm doing at a glance?

My stats are...
Knowledge 5
Guts 4
Proficiency 5
Kindness 4
Charm 4

Maxed out Takemi, Yoshida, Mishima, Maruki, and Kasumi

Got Ryuji, Ann, and Yusuke at 8

Everyone else is between 3 and 6 (except Haru who isn't yet available)

Get Akechi up asap

Love being able to switch between my small and large screen like this. I used to try this with P4G on PSTV but it never worked out due to the sparse save points and long cutscenes.

Just getting started on this. About 2 hours in, but love the style of the game. Always a big turn based fan, so I’m my wheel house. Let’s just hope it doesn’t take me a year to get through…

Akechi is at 6 but won't hang out with me right now ;_;
Literally the first chance you get to hang out with him, hang out with him and prioritize him over everyone else. Getting Maruki and Kasumi up ahead of time was a good call.

Palace 6 is absolutely the GOAT, everything comes together for that one
You're probably right. I just have a ton of fondness for Palace 4, too. I adore the vibe, the character bits, and everything about it. Palace 6 and 4 also have the best music, too. I guess if I had to distinguish between the two, Palace 6 is the overall best, while Palace 4 is kind of the "best Palace for the slightly chiller, less high stakes" part of the game.

Palace 4 is wonderful, so no arguments there! I think 4/6/Royal palaces are the three frontrunners for the best ones in the game

Can anyone tell me without too much spoilers if there is entire palace of that one place where you quickly just skim through without the group?
edit: On palace 6 now and oh boy. This game went into my all time top-5 easily.
