Thank you. Then I hav ehope that I might like the game. As much as I see any people loving it, I could not get into Trails from Cold Steel at all. And I tried maybe 3 times. Maybe I'm too old, it just feels too modern anime vhatty and power of friendship like.
You’re not alone. I also picked up Trails from Zero after hearing it was closer to Trails in the Sky, I’d pretty much given up on the series as I found the Cold Steel games to just be a mess in comparison. Almost managed to start ToZ last night. That counts as an achievement for me these days :)

Trails from Zero is worse on ps4, right? I only have my daughters Switch Lite, and I'm trying to wait until the next switch gets released to buy myself a new switch. I am wondering if I should wait for that, or get the ps4 version, as I have noticed I play less and less Switch since I need to borrow hers.

The Friday update on the website's schedule has a "Special Update stay tuned!" bit, maybe Reverie's release date? Given that they have a VA panel for the game later in the day.

Edit: just saw that this has already been posted on the Zero OT. Just kill me lol

Whoops. Well I’m on chap 6 of XBC3, completed a bunch of hero quests and plan to get back to the main story soon

It’s cool posting in both threads :) Different people are viewing each one. Was overly exhausted yesterday and never ended up clicking on the link, so happy to hear Friday is the day to tune in for.

Sorry I’ve got no idea, I only have a Switch so haven’t really followed the comparisons

Yeah, I forget exactly how it went down, but the fully updated/upgraded version is only the new Switch/PC version, which was based on a PS4 port Falcom had already worked on, and they released that port mostly as-is instead of bringing it up to par with the other two. Durante (one of the port devs) has a steam post that explains some of the work they did and the difference between versions.

Yeah the PS4 version is untouched from the Japanese release. The Switch/PC versions have better graphics (including cleaned up textures and sprites) and performance (1080p and 60fps), new features like the message log, song listing, the ability to retry certain minigames, and other various quality of life bumps.

30 minutes of gameplay from Dragon Quest Treasures. Now we can see how the battle and exploration works more clearly. Also good to see they are using the classic DQ soundtracks. I liked you can heal your monsters with the slingshot

I watched the start through the boss and I’m definitely more intrigued by this game now. I’m waiting for reviews on this one still, but much more hopeful it will be a good deal of fun. Thanks for sharing!

Really looking forward to this, I’ll watch this later today, thanks for the link!

I just hope you can tone down/ turn off the monster banter. IT was interesting for 5 min but afer 20 minutes it tired me

Thank you everyone. It seems I need to wait with this one then. I'll most likely play it on the Switch 2, next or whatever. That way I don't need to bother my daughter and borrow her Switch. But I also do not like playing on PC.

It's going to be hard to be without a Nintendo Switch for a year or two....

I dunno what our guy is doing here but uh...

I had to double-check, that is indeed Sakaguchi posting that himself. 😅

I've beaten 40 games so far this year, and 21 of them have been RPGs. I'm very happy with that ratio, but it's only going to increase as this weekend I started the first Wild Arms game and I'm already digging it. Love the music.

Wow. That’s impressive! I’ve completed 7 games this year, 4 of which were rpgs. But one of the others was Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak that I saw the credits roll on about a week after launch buy am still playing now due to the updates.

Star Ocean week, i was considering buying it on day 1 but the PC requirements are pretty steep and don't inspire much confidence on the quality of the port.

My laptop should be able to run it well anyway, but i think i'll wait for impressions this time... it's also Bayonetta 3 week, so yeah, i'll be fine i think :)

I'm big big hype for Star Ocean (surprise) and I didn't really like what I played of SO5 so I'm really excited for a new mainline title (it's been 13 years since SO4 already). And SO6 looks like it's going to be really stupid in all the right ways. I don't even care if it runs like shit on my PC, it'll still probably be better than on PS4.

But really, mostly I hope it sells well enough that Tri-Ace don't go under. They're one of my favorite studios :'((

Finished Trails From Zero yesterday.

It's always a pleasure playing a Trails game, especially the older ones as they are my favorites and have the best writting in the series with a much tighter cast.
I also like that there isn't a huge cliffhanger like the other games but it still leaves you with many unanswered questions like Who actually killed Guy and Who is the actual mastermind behind KeA's appearance in the Auction, what the fuck happened 500 years ago, etc

The OST is incredible as always, with some of my favorite bangers like Inevitable Struggle, Geofront and A Light Illuminating the Depths and some underrated ones like Mainz Village.

Probably my least favorite part of the game are the villains Revache, Joachim Guenter, Garcia, etc are just not memorable for me. Perhaps the only interesting one for me is Cao

But besides that, the game is a solid 9/10 game. I just don't give it a perfect score because Azure is a thing and for me it's peak Trails.

Also, just realized there's a portrait mod for the game in development. Sounds perfect for a when I come back someday.

I am 30 hours into Zero (Chapter 3 Day 3) and Persona 5 arrived on the weekend. I booted it up so see how it looks (Its a fantastic port) and I know that I will be sucked in so, Ill take a look at it later and enjoy my time with Zero.

Tactics Ogre Reborn previews are out, and looking really good.
What are the odds I can play through Trails from Zero and Tactics Ogre and Front Mission One before Dragon Quest Treasures, and then that before FE Engage, and then that before Octopath II?

You’d think I’d be less of an optimist by now given that I’ve managed about 3 rpgs this year :D

I am enough of a realist to have only planned TO Reborn -> FE Engage -> Octopath 2.

And I'm still not sure if even that might be a tad optimistic, lmao.

I'm just planning DQ Treasure > FE Engage -> Ryza 3

Looking at the calendar, I am almost done with Zero, I want to try to finish Undernaught (I miss EO) since when I was playing it a deluge of games came out. Ill probably tackle P5R and Pokemon during winter break before Engage (that is a priority lol).

I am glad that as of October 26, 2022 lol, I am excited for only 3 games in the first half, Engage and Octopath 2 and Azure (till Zelda). So I can go back to some older games I missed/havent finished. I have 3 rpgs that are like 75-80% done (Ryza 1, Mary Skelter Finale and Ys 8).

Watch the Feb direct show a ton of games for the first half...

Speaking of Front Mission, what's even the release date for that? All I'm seeing is November 2022...which is in less than a week so some more specifics would be nice on that front (mission).

Yeah it was radio silence after the initial announcement then it’s been the same after the direct. Maybe they’ll do something after Tactics Ogre comes out, it seems weird to be so quiet about it.

It's probably more on Forever Entertainment since it's a licensed IP. They don't really do much promo in the lead up to release though, they have come to rely on those Nintendo Direct reveals. Still, we'll probably get a trailer and some previews if it's still coming out so soon. Or a delay announcement.

Ah fair enough, yeah I reckon we’ll see something small mid November and then a late November release, it seems unlikely they’d have been in the September Direct If it wasn’t pretty much ready to go at that point.

“Let us be talking together” or ‘clinging together’ or something like that? :)
Yeah, I considered making a play on "Let Us Cling Together", but have not come up with a satisfying one so far. But any idea is welcome!

Edit: Though I suppose simply using the original subtitle also works quite well.

Yeah I think it works well for a thread title

I'm into disc 3 for my current playthrough of Final Fantasy 8, and I love this game so much. It's a surreal, unpredictable, risk-taking game presented with confidence. And it feels more comforting, real and mature as you get more familiar with it.

Two hours into Star Ocean 6 and it plays sooo well so far, I'm having a great time :'D I missed this series a lot, so far it's really feeling like a return home. Getting to taste Tri-Ace's comforting cooking again after years away. We'll see how I feel about it once I'm further in but for the time being it's really fun and it runs a lot better on PC than I was expecting.

Update: 6 hours into SO6, honestly so far I'm having a real blast. This really feels like a return to roots, and it's super fun to play. I'm having the exact opposite feelings as with Tales of Arise - for Arise I felt like it was alternately "the same as usual but worse" or "not really a Tales game".

Whereas here the combat feels like an improved version of SO4's (ironically with some of the elements from Zestiria/Berseria, in a way I'm enjoying more than those two), the traversal and exploration feels REALLY nice, there's great QOL overall, and the story and characters have me really interested already. Was absolutely worth getting day one for me and I hope if anyone else tries it they have a good time too!

If I still like it this much by the time I finish, I'm going to be banging this drum for a while.

Enjoying these impressions. I won’t get to it for a good while probably, but I did get my copy in the mail today!

Would love to know what you think when you get to it! I'm really hoping this one takes off, I know Star Ocean isn't a hugely popular series but I'd love it if it sold well enough to keep Tri-Ace in business.

I only played for a couple of hours but yeah, i'm having a good time with SO6 as well.

I know it sound cliched, but it really feels like a mid-budget jrpg from the PS2 era and i love it for it. It also runs flawlessly on my laptop and the Radiata Stories little action-figures in the equipment menu put me in a good mood.

Good job Tri-Ace.

Tri-Ace are genuinely the kings of AA JRPGs to me, they're always creative and polished enough to feel like some real care and passion went into them, but not enough to feel like they had the budget or oversight to reach anything resembling AAA. I'm really glad to see the feeling is sticking around despite this entry definitely being more resource-heavy than the previous ones. And yeah it runs completely fine on my desktop so far, having no trouble with the PC port personally.

Also I lost 3 hours of my life last night getting sucked into the board minigame because it's actually really, really fun. I think more games should give Go pieces guns.

Finally finished SAO Alicization Lycoris. It is a very complete package for the price (at least in LATAM) and there is still post game and more DLC coming. I liked the combat as it's very dynamic and there are a lot of options you have with multiple weapons, special attacks, party members and the record system (which is similar to FFXII gambits), it also helps that the AI is decent most of the time. It also complements nicely most of the story of all of the Integrity Knights which was only mentioned in War of Underworld

With that said there are some weird decisions like
  • The way the story will flow different for similar events, just making you waste some time. IE "let's save the village A" ->c cutscene of the party running to the village ->fight in the village. And sometimes is "let's save the village B" > puts you in world map, have to run to the village B which is 30 seconds away from where you triggered the event > custcene in the village > fight in the village.. The second case becomes more common in the second part of the game for some reason.
  • Fishing, takes too much time for the animations and takes too much time to level up (not a downside if you are not a completionist but every area has at least one quest where you have to fish)
  • I mentioned this before but the game, or rather the port, is ugly, which is a shame becuase all the areas are actually really good to explore having mountains, cave, jungles all within the same area. A shame they couldn't have more budget to optimize it for switch.
Overall it was a good time, and probably going to get the expansion pass once it's on disccount (knowing bamco it will be).

Tactics Ogre Reborn |ST| Bicycle Race
or
Tactics Ogre Reborn |ST| Fat Bottomed Girls
Don't tempt me!

Edit: I think I came up with a good one, but that will have to wait.

Edit 2: Turns out, I do want feedback on this after all. Tactics Ogre is conceptually Chapter 7 of the Ogre Battle Saga. Song 7 on Queen's 7th album (Jazz) is Dead on Time. Yay or nay?

Bicycle Race and Fat Bottomed Girls are from the same album anyway, but have already been done.

I'd say yay because Tactics Ogre Reborn is Dead on Time making it at the tail end of the year of SRPGs.

I know people have been curious, Front Mission Remake is coming November 30th at $35. New trailer tomorrow.

I just wrapped up Bayonetta 3 tonight so I’m heading back to Mario and Rabbids 2 tomorrow. Definitely still need to do a Trails From Zero write up for this thread at some point. That was the last RPG I finished.
