News Elon Musk and the End of Twitter

Famiboards statuses are the future of short form social media posts anyway.

The world’s biggest douchebag buys society’s greatest cancer.

Hopefully he runs it into the ground and goes broke in the process. Two birds.

I mainly go on Twitter for artists and news, and I am really hoping that both can find new platforms to in regards to getting stuff out there quickly and to a lot of eyes. Depressing situation all around.

Well looks like I'm going to need to get those Twitter blocking extensions setup. I held off on doing that when it seemed he would weasel his way out of the purchase but looks like it's time to block Twitter on all my devices. I'm gonna miss Wario64, but it's not worth supporting a shitstain like musk.

On one hand, yeah.

On the other given how proven by this point it is that social media is terrible for everyone's mental health, anything that pushes people to stop using it is good in my book.

Why did liberals originally like this idiot again?

Fuck him and his right-wing politics.
There was a point many years ago when liberals were looking for options in the auto market that weren't fossil fuel powered. When the Prius came along, for instance, it became sort of a star car for people trying to champion that cause, and when Musk brought Tesla into the limelight those cars similarly became a big, big deal. Musk seemed anti-establishment at a time when the establishment didn't seem to be doing much to combat climate change, and that I think earned him some points. I saw a lot of talk back then that "if the government isn't going to help the planet, then luckily we have a rich guy on our side who's gonna do something himself."

Obviously now he's still trying to position himself as anti-establishment, but with the perspective that "the establishment" is "liberal government, culture, and journalism." So.. yeah. Mask's off now.

wonder how long before the people leaving/fired from twitter make their own alternative when musk makes Twitter parlor 2.0
No joke, almost every time I try to type in "twitter.com" I end up accidentally typing "twotter.com"

Maybe they could call it that? 🤔

More on the content moderator being gone. He had a lot of roles.

Friends are tweeting screencaps of hate speech on the rise already since the takeover. Not going to link it here, but it’s super gross :(

Idgaf that Musk owns it, there was nothing of value to redeem.

Twitter fucking sucks and has always been a cesspool of just the nastiest people. A cruel mix of the worst of all kinds attacking in all directions Never forget how it was used to dox people for years, especially those who needed a safe space. Remember executive order by tweet???? Burn it and don't join places without moderation.

Useful for news and documenting reality but a fucking pit.

Char is not a villain and did nothing wrong

(CCA is character assassination and a very badly written movie made solely for fanservice)

Either way Elon Musk is a joke and this won’t change anything. I thought this dude would actually talk his talk as he did contribute to make electric cars more mainstream but basically everything else has been an embarrassment. Twitter has already ruined humanity, no matter how many people are deplatformed the alt right disinformation machine is present in pretty much every social media. Twitter is obviously the worst of them all as its format prevents any sort of nuance, you weren’t supposed to have conversations with people in a microblogging app that was originally made for sales pitches and updates.

It may sound like a cop out to say that the solution of this problem involves having heavy regulation of social media algorithms, but the “pro free speech” don’t want any of that. Their personality is literally the result of disinformation campaigns ran by corporations that routinely breaks regulations, their sycophancy is deeper than the rot. I honestly don’t know what it will take for people to finally get over this bullshit. Until then, get ready for years of more culture warring where the so called “anti establishment free thinkers” keep parroting targeted content funded by oil companies and other lobbies.

I said it in the other thread and I’ll say it in this one, all of his ideas suck. $20 a month for verification is a colossal, embarrassing joke. The vast majority of verified accounts will not pay for that and I doubt there are many out there who haven’t gotten one who will jump at this.

The layoffs though are what’s going to kill the company and product if the 50-75% range goes through. That’s not remotely sustainable and others are going to want to exit after that. So much institutional knowledge for how to run that company is about to be lost. Feel awful for everyone who has to put up with this nonsense. Hope they land somewhere better.

also BIDEN and whitehouse will hafta pay this as well like fuck this greedy asshole
I actually wonder how much of it is greed and how much of it is him looking to force people to forfeit their verified status so that it will be easier for spoof accounts to pass as legit and therefore continue stoking the chaos and misinformation..?

Would genuinely laugh if they end up at Dorsey's Bluesky

Individuals won't and shouldn't pony up for a checkmark but it's valuable enough for large companies and institutions to keep it, and $20 a month isn't a huge expense for those anyway.

Honestly, I kinda get the logic. A lot of companies and institutions benefit from Twitter's user base and moderation without necessarily paying to advertise or viewing ads, it makes sense to try to soak them. Probably would make more sense to charge based on a metric like follower count or impressions, and the "do it in a week or your fired" thing will obviously backfire in a hilarious way, but the concept is pretty low on the list of idiotic things he's done or will do to Twitter

Well. I guess someone didn't read the manual on how to operate the thing he spent a fuckton of money on.
