monolith moved to that new water building right next to nintendo hq

Nintendo wants to be able to open a window and shout across the street to get Monolith Soft Kyoto to do all EPD's work.

It is a very old article, but is DK Vine a trustworthy source ?

I especially find this quote interesting :

"The way this is being phrased makes it sound like this is just the Odyssey team doing Donkey Kong.
I've been led to believe that this is a new EPD team that has formed from other teams specifically for the purpose of creating Donkey Kong games."

So instead of EPD 8, the 3D Mario team, the new DK game is being made by an all new EPD Group.
EPD 12 for Donkey Kong games ?

This has a long and storied history of discussion by now but there has been activity around DK and at EPD 8 that suggests things are afoot there. It doesn't necessarily mean a new EPD group has been formed, but that a new team is working on DK within EPD 8 (like EPD 5 handling both Animal Crossing and Splatoon).

EPD 8 moved to new headquarters in 2020, have hired for what seems to be two different projects (a 3D one and a 2D one), and DK is the next theme park section, so something seems to be happening. I think at least one other source had suggested a DK game is indeed in the works at Tokyo now, but I can't remember the specifics.

The key point for me is that there are seemingly two different 2D platform games in the works - one at EPD 10 (2D Mario team) and one at EPD 8 (Tokyo). DK is by far the likeliest candidate for the latter project simply because it has a legacy and potential which is more notable than any other non-Mario platformer from Nintendo.

Do we still have nothing else on EPD 9? I don't think we've heard Yabuki say anything in a while either. This team in particular has been quite weird throughout the Switch's lifetime so far.

I'm pretty sure they've got more than just MK8 Deluxe DLC going on (I doubt updating Tour even takes the whole team).

Project Hammer returns!
I know is a joke and Nintendo nowadays has way better action-oriented games like Astral Chain and Bayonetta, not to mention that the whole Project H.A.M.M.E.R. name was toxic at both Nintendo and NST for years... buuuuut I can't help but wonder if someone at NST thinks they need to redeem the project somehow.

ideas should be repurposed into new games, like how Scalebound was disseminated into many games like Astral Chain and Bayo 3. NST, though, needs to convince Nintendo they can handle an action game

If the people at NST can make a compelling project out of HAMMER I think they should. NST should develop their own lane, not just be EPD's lackey.

I don't see anyone approaching Project Hammer with a ten foot pole and from the stuff we've seen I don't think we're missing out on anything.

Maybe Retro can give Raven Blade to NST? At least the latter knows how to ship a game.

I should have been more clear when I meant new games I meant stuff like wave race 1080p
Yeah. I'd like new IPs too, but I'm 1000% fine with NST just doing Wave Race, 1080, and even an Excite game, just to help flesh out the line-up and give some western flavor we just don't see much of from Nintendo anymore.

I suggested before that with CAProduction having made both Sky Odyssey and Wing Island (the latter with Hudson) and work with NDCube on almost every game and lead on Clubhouse Games, I'd like to see them work with NDCube on an all-new Pilotwings in that vein. Of course NST could give that a crack too, but I'd prefer this arrangement personally. Gets NDCube on another non-party game.

Unless NST is making a new Switch Sports Resort, wave race has little chance of coming back. I'd say a small eshop title has a chance, but NST has more important duties now with Mario

Mainline Mario support jail is one of the better jails to be in. Your work will reach an order of magnitude more players than a Wave Race or 1080 Snowboarding or whatever

About the NST talk: I really wouldn't be surprised if they're working on Captain Toad 2 with EPD Tokyo direction. With Bowser's Fury and the Captain Toad DLC under their belt, it makes sense. Especially when you consider that Shinya Hiratake was likely the director of both projects.

I'm not saying that's the only thing they're working on, but I still think it will happen.

what if they're tasked with supervising external Drake games 🤔
I'm just wondering who would even be left. After Hitoshi Yamagami stepped down(?), pretty much all of the known EPD 1 staff are now in EPD 2. Though according to Nintendo, Toru Minegishi is now in EPD 7, which doesn't make much sense unless the sound team is now counted as a numbered group.

Not gonna lie, I kinda want an open world Project H.A.M.M.E.R. now.

... Which would be kinda like Nier: Automata except not as well-written nor with the solid gameplay. You know what? Maybe something different would be fine but I think NST could do something solid with an open world considering what they did in Bowser's Fury.

please no. I think out of everything possible, captain toad would be the worst project they could ever do. I cant think of anything.

And like, why would they need to expand for such a project anyway? Its not like that is the kind of game that requires a lot of people lol.

Pretty much every Nintendo division is expanding right now. It doesn’t necessarily have to be the only project. We also wouldn’t know to what extent the scope would be increased for a sequel.

I hope you all are right about all the platformer projects going on internally. It's been the thing I've been most anxious for in recent years and their absence in Directs is driving me crazy.

2D Mario, 3D Mario, Donkey Kong, and Captain Toad are all things I'd show up for Day 1 if EPD and NST were working on them.

There’s no strong reason to doubt most of them seeing as they’ve openly recruited for 2D and 3D Action Game projects at their respective EPD locations. The next Mario is always in production anyway so especially nothing to fear there.

Not convinced on Captain Toad 2 myself but if that’s what NST are working on i’d obviously be there day one. Still thinking about those rehires from the GameCube era though.

god i so so hope its not yet another mario spin off. Unless its something like the next donkey kong lol.

I hope so much its something out of left field like a new wave race or a new excite something i would looove a new racing game lol. I def dont think they re doing all those hirings for a project like captain toad so im putting my hopes on that.

wave race blue storm is deep in the red on the vibes account so if there were to be another I'd much prefer it come from japan

cancelled games coming back from the dead like that is pretty rare. especially when some amount of details are out in the wild now given the age

NST doing Mario Spin-Off's with different protagonist's from the Mario universe
Maybeee they could revive that cancelled Boo Game by Retro Studios ?

the game itself seems to be simple even for the ds era, i think even 2016 NST could do several of them at once.

Not sure the best place to ask this. Where would be the best place to order Switch games that would be most likely to have all the updates on the cart?

Referencing this site: http://www.benoitren.be/switch-cartridgerevisions.html
There's no way to know though. Most carts don't get reprints with all updates on the cart sadly. You'd have to get impressions from folks who are into that sort of thing, like those Switch Corps folks on twitter.

Creatures relocated to a new office on October 24th. Not sure if it's any bigger.
