You already have a strong history of partnering with Nintendo. Could Yamane’s appointment bring that relationship even closer?

Inaba:
Well obviously, Yamane didn’t leave Nintendo on bad terms at all and this partnership that we have with Nintendo is very important to us right now and will be moving forward. I think with Yamane-san joining us here, PlatinumGames can definitely build an even stronger relationship with Nintendo moving forward. That can only be a positive thing for PlatinumGames. So yeah, we’re very glad to have him on board.

Sounds like Platinum are happy to continue working with Nintendo whilst working on their own stuff as well.

goes to show that good working relations surpass bad games/releases. but if Platinum doesn't want to turn into another Alpha Dream, they need to get their house together themselves

Last summer Platinum said Takahisa Taura was busy on a project they can't announce yet; now they say they can have an even stronger relationship with Nintendo going forward.

(Also: where's Vanquish for Switch?)

I am not familiar with game making but here: Retro is hiring for an Environment Outsourcing Manager. But that isnt the part that i really found interesting

It is:
  • Oversees the preparation of documentation and asset examples so that vendors are successfully producing assets that meet Retro’s high standards for visual and technical excellence within its proprietary engine and tools pipeline
so i guess that confirms Retro is using their proprietary engine.

not only that but

  • Prior experience managing $10M or more outsourcing budget on a AAA title.
wow mp4 is quite expensive.

and finally

  • Closely collaborates with Retro’s Environment Art Lead and Art Director to ensure external asset development meets the studio’s expectation of high visual quality
meaning mp4 is high quality graphics? ok that one was a joke but im begging someone to talk about this because i find it so interesting!

It’s also possible this is Prime 2+3. The narrative around the Trilogy Remake has said that when Nintendo moved MP4 to Retro, the scope of the remaster shifted to just the first game with a plan to outsource the second and third game to another studio with the original as a template.

Dread was a huge hit for a Metroid game, but that’s still 3 million units. The ceiling on a Prime game is maybe 5-7? I wouldn’t be surprised if Nintendo just didn’t think the market could handle 4 Prime games, three of which are remakes. So it’s quite possible those were scrapped.

But conserving that there are engine limitations to changing the motion controls it seems reasonable that moving to the upgraded retro engine would involve some re-engineering. It might make sense to keep the project at Retro, with a small team of folks who did the Prime 1 uplift, while outsourcing all the art.

Yeah i really dont think 2 and 3 will be getting done anytime soon, much less by retro themselves.

As for possible prime 4 sales, i dont think nintendo expects 5 million, after all its done dread will have sold 4 million so that would only be 1 more than dread.

What could Nintendo do to have another visually astounding game? In the past these games have exploited the increased processing capabilities of new hardware - ie. DK Country and 3D generated 2D sprites, Super Mario 64 and 3D, Metroid Prime and immersive environments / screen effects, Mario Kart 8 and HD visuals at 60fps, BOTW and enormous seamless vistas. What's the next amazement?

the upgrade when playing on drake with 4K. if we're lucky they might add more visual effects, but that could be expecting much

The era of major new 3D techniques being developed that let the hardware be better exploited is largely over. Nintendo can do incredible things with design but the next leap will be with the next hardware

bruh nothing is coming this year lol. We’re in the middle of holiday season. They will not announce Metroid Prime Remaster or Zelda ports now. That time has passed.

These are big deals especially MPR being related to Metroid Prime 4.

everybody's 1-2 switch might get the big brain academy slot but yeah

Remember when you lashed out at me for saying that we actually don't know that these games are coming this year?

Because I remember.

i only hope that mpr is actually real. I dont mind waiting but i will be really sad if it turned out to be a lie.
It's absolutely real. Keep in mind Emily has said time and time again that she has a very good source, and is very confident with her info, on both Fire Emblem and MPR. She was right on the money with FE Engage, so I think we owe it to Emily and her source(s) to assume MPR is likely real as well. Not to mention all the other sources (Nate, Jeff Grubb, etc.) who have also talked about it.

For all we know, Nintendo could be planning for a very specific gap of time between MPR and MP4, and the latter just isn't quite ready yet for however large they want the gap to be. We'll just have to wait and see. But I'm very confident that it exists at least.

Can we be certain this isn't a possible " trap leak ", to weed out insiders, like that supposedly Star Fox Grand Prix was?
not commenting on if its real or not but mannn that would be a tragedy lol. Grand Prix never seemed like a fun idea to me tho, for several reasons:

First off: a racing game that reminds you of fzero but isnt fzero.
Second: a spin off of a star fox game after the failures of 3d and zero.
Third: Retro Studios being wasted on such a spin off instead of making something more interesting.

You don't need to rely on rumors to know that Retro worked on something alongside Prime 4 that reached a level of completion last year.

Metroid Prime 4 is the game I've waited the longest in my whole life damn. Been dire on the Wii U speculation days(2014) at a time I hadn't even played a Metroid game.
2017 came and with it its official announcement and I got hyped to the roof. When the reboot was announced I was very sad that I wouldn't see the game for a long time.
I just can't wait to see them revealing Metroid Prime Remastered, because that will be a glimpse of what Metroid Prime 4 will look like, and of course it would be even better if we got a teaser of 4 alongside it.
Hopefully February Direct can announce both, and hopefully neither is so far away.

Don't you think releasing Metroid Prime remaster will dilute all the pent-up expectation around Metroid Prime 4? This happened to me with the original trilogy. I played MP1 and loved it, then MP2 came out and I bought it but was fatigued of Metroid by then so that when MP3 came out I didn't buy it. It's only years later that I got a second-hand copy and loved it just as I had done with the first game.
If the games release too close they cannibalise each others sales. I'd much rather have MP4 release before the remasters.

Looks like Motoi Okamoto is at Konami now and in charge of Silent Hill. He hasn't been a Nintendo employee since like 2008 but it's interesting to see a former Nintendo employee heading a major franchise.

Yeah he was seemingly at DMM in between leaving his team Entersphere and joining Konami, joining the latter in 2019. No clue on what he did at both before Silent Hill. Also FYI Entersphere made Army Corps of Hell on Vita at launch, also very horror centric.

January 25 will mark 4 years since Retro rebooted MP4 (a bit more than 3 months to go!) and we havent seen a single pic or teaser yet.

They cant go through 2023 without a single tease so its exciting to know that soon enough we will be in the year where mp4 will be ffinally shown.

That really doesnt likes its actual concept art for the game lol. The phazon blue, the linear path, samus's pose... idk.
people have a misconception about what concept art is. pr art pieces are also concept art, but the bulk of it are just shotgunned ideas onto paper. then when an idea is iterated upon, it then gets refined to the point of being presentable to the public.

not only that, this is art for a hiring ad

that is true, but i meant it doesnt says anything about how mp4 is going to look lol. Its very basic.

And yes, it is art for hiring, but it doesnt says much like i said.

Sounds like Platinum are happy to continue working with Nintendo whilst working on their own stuff as well.
The notion that Platinum will develop a stronger relationship with Nintendo obviously tends to invite the question of how that will manifest and the recurring discussion of whether Nintendo will purchase the company, but it's clear that the messaging indicates Platinum's continued venture into publishing some of their own titles; the intended implication is not movement toward a purchase.

However, a stronger relationship with Nintendo would grant Platinum further security, given the sustained stream of projects from a reliable publisher. And perhaps such closeness would help avert an Alpha Dream situation if it still managed to ever come down to that. Platinum's been joining Nintendo on the Doom Train enough that it even kind of makes sense.

In any case, this is good news for Platinum, and it's mildly humorous that it was shortly followed up by people's absolute certainty recent events would lead to the dissolution of the partnership and, perhaps, even that of Platinum itself.

Last summer Platinum said Takahisa Taura was busy on a project they can't announce yet; now they say they can have an even stronger relationship with Nintendo going forward.

Astral Chain 2 intensifies
Nah, we all know they have Taura working on a new StarFox title.
Next Star Fox by Platinium.
And still Kamiya misses out on StarFox once again.

(Yes, I do fully expect an Astral Chain sequel, and, yes, I do fully expect it to be great)

(Also: where's Vanquish for Switch?)
(I'm still waiting for more of Platinum's old titles to come trickling to Switch so they can maybe see the success they'd missed out in before. Vanquish, of course, but also titles like MadWorld)

I highly doubt the next 3D Mario (or any 3D Mario really) will have a crossover theme. It just doesn’t seem like something Nintendo would do in mainline games. They haven’t even gone the whole way with Mario Kart.
Perhaps not, but we'll see the results of the secret missions that shrink Mario so he can meet the omnipresent nature sprites of the multiverse.
That's the pikmin, of course. They're everywhere. That's the secret message of Pikmin Bloom.
