I’m hoping it runs well on the Switch, because I’d be way more likely to play through the entire game on Switch than PS5.
I'd be very surprised if this one doesn't run at a pretty stable 30 fps, tbh. The thing I'm more curious about is whether it'll be native res (720p) or lower (600p maybe?) when undocked.
Well it is a PS3 game so I'd be surprised if it ran below 720p in handheld mode, unless the team behind it wasn't given enough time and resources
If they're using the PS4 build as their base (which I assume they are), it will definitely not run at native resolution in handheld mode.

EDIT: god damn it, double post

Well, it depends on the game. I mean hell, Pikmin 3 Deluxe and DKC Tropical Freeze New Funky Mode Edition are sub-720p in portable mode after all.
There is that, albeit I do remember there being split screen co-op added for Pikmin 3, correct me if I'm wrong

Would that make that much of a difference? I mean, haven't we seen, for example, remasters of PS3/360 stuff that were on PS4/XB1 come to Switch and just be fine?

It's a case by case thing. There are demanding PS4 games that seem to perplexingly run better on Switch (Alien Isolation, 13 Sentinels), then there are seemingly straightforward PS4 games that run bafflingly bad on Switch (Bloodstained the most notorious example).

In the specific case of P5R, to me it comes down to the following factors:
  • The PS3 version runs at 720p
  • The PS3 version cannot maintain a steady 30fps, and has loads of lower resolution shadows and screen tearing every time the framerate gets to hectic
  • The Switch version is known to maintain a steady 30fps (based on impressions)
  • The PS4 version of Royal has higher quality assets than PS3 version of vanilla
Basically I am assuming like for like the Switch in handheld mode can easily outperform the PS3 version of the game. However, given that the PS4 version is known to be of higher visual quality with higher quality textures and assets, I would assume the that Switch handheld makes concessions. Since the framerate is known to be steady, the concessions have to come from elsewhere, which the easiest thing to do is drop resolution.

Of course, they could have pulled off some Nier Automata/13 Sentinels style wizardry, but I doubt it, it looks to be a fairly straightforward port to me.

To be fair, releasing the dancing games after the games they're based on makes more sense. I don't know how they'll stagger them, but I can see them coming out a year after. Maybe they'll combine all of them into one game after all the games come out?

If I recall correctly, Catherine Full Body was ported to the Switch which was originally a PS3/Xbox 360 game that was remastered for PS4 (and Vita lol) and runs on the same engine as P5R while also holding a stable 30fps and native resolution.

I have confidence that the Switch port will be a good one.

On a separate note, I still can't believe we are actually getting mainline Persona games on Switch and it's less than a month to go for P5R, this generation has been a wild ride lol.

I mean... correct me if I'm wrong but apparently the Vita port was actually really decent lol.
Given that Catherine FB stayed JP only on Vita at least, I've never had any hands-on experience with it myself. From what I've seen and read online, though, it did seem to be a very competent port, yeah. Not like Atlus don't know how to make technically good handheld games (at least with their own engine tech and such).

Announce Persona Dancing for Switch cowards
I’d consider double dipping on these if they released ‘Last Dance’ versions or something that included all DLC. I’d wait for a sale…but I’d definitely play them again.

But the real coup will be Persona Q0 featuring the cast of Persona 1 and the Persona 2 duology. 🤫

Dancing All the Time: Final Bar Devil for Switch.

Not only it'll have every song from Persona 1-2A-2B-3-4-5, it'll also have songs from series like SMT 3-4-5, Digital Devil Saga, Devil Survivor, Devil Summoner, Soul Hackers, Strange Journey, Demikids, Etrian Odyssey, Radiant Historia and even Snowboard Kids!

And yes, the game will feature Nahobino dancing with Hatsune Miku.

Why would PlayStation censor the use of blood of all things? I mean *waving my hand at The Last of Us, God of War, etc.*
I don't think it makes too much sense in this context.

One thing that would prove the argument, though: what's it like in the PS5 version of the game? Blood or no blood?

One change that would be nice is Futaba wearing the costume you have equipped for her when she appears during battle. It didn't work that way in Vanilla, I haven't played Royale, they fix that there?

I have no idea, especially considering most of the other awakenings already have blood in them IIRC? Maybe they added it to be more consistent? No clue

I'm finally playing Catherine on Switch in anticipation of P5R. I bought it last summer during a B2G1 sale. I did a play through of it about 11 years ago on PS3 and I remember loving the story but hating the puzzles.

I hated the puzzles at first, but as I was making progress in the story, I became addicted to them.
If it clicks, it becomes very satisfying.

I personally found the puzzle to be the best thing of Catherine.

Bodes super well for Persona 5 Royal on Switch, assuming the same dev (Technical Arts) is also behind it.
I would not count on it to be honest. Persona 5 isn't a technical masterpiece, but it is a bigger and more intensive game than Catherine by orders of magnitude.
Atlus also isn't the most technically proficient developer around (clearly).

I think it will be a good port, but P4G was sub native on the PS Vita (for example); I think that's a good kind of ballpark for how P5R on Switch would be. P4 was a PS2 game, put on a handheld a good bit more powerful, at least half a generation, and probably closer to a full one. In spite of that, it still made graphical concessions and cutbacks. I think P5R on Switch will be similar, we should all go in expecting that, in fact.

I don't care what graphical compromises they make, I just don't want them to compress the music. The OST is so integral and it needs to pop.
Once again, judging by P4G on the Vita, or the Switch versions for Catherine, 13 Sentinels, or Persona 5 Strikers, I don't think compressed music is something we have anything to worry about.

13 sentinels OST was fantastic, I do have the OLED so I am not sure if there is a big difference there.

This isn't gonna escape from my rotation for a long time! 😍

So did anyone that preordered this from Amazon have the image in their "recent orders" page change to the PS5 version? Everything else still says Switch, but the image is now of the PS5 box.

Yeah, one of the few downsides of the Royal version, not enough Last Surprise.

I actively avoided doing surprise attacks just to hear it lol.
You can still get it quite a bit if you do that! And honestly Take Over REALLY grew on me over the course of the game, it's a bop
