Well, resting after a successful event. We raised almost 9K for Pink Ribbon in our third edition :).

Now time to start working on some of my backlog and I also bought Splatoon 3 finally even though I wasn't sure if I would like it :p

People of Famicomboards - help me out pick my new RPG.
I think I have had enough time after XC3 to fully indulge in a new one

I've carefully selected these from my backlog and since I own all of these already, money is not a factor. I have never played them before, they're all on Switch if not noted

Live A Live
Chrono Trigger [DS]
Chrono Cross
Final Fantasy VII
Final Fantasy IX
The World Ends With You
Tales of Vesperia

Something to add to the decision:
  • I am on parental leave for another 5 months, so when the young one (10mo) is sleeping I do have plenty of time to do whatever.
  • I play a couple of other games currently (MHR: Sunbreak, Layton and the Lost Future, Return to Monkey Island) - so I will joggle a couple of games
  • I want to be done with it when M+R2 launches

I like all of your choices so you can’t really go wrong, but I’d play Chrono Trigger. It’s an all time classic, it’s not too long, and it’s easy to put down and come back to given it’s turn based. Live A Live is perhaps most ideal to juggle since it is essentially a short story collection. Since you are playing on Switch, if you did pick The World Ends With You (another great choice since it is divided by days) make sure you have a capacitative stylus since the motion controls are not up to snuff.

Chrono Cross, FF7, FF9, and Vesperia are the longer games here. I don’t know if they’d make great games when juggling so I’d probably recommend against those.

After playing Arceus earlier this year, I bought Shining Pearl and boy was I wrong. I prefer the old school type Pokemons more than the more open/3rd person Pokemon. I thought I wanted open world Pokemon (even though I don't like open world games). Arceus was fine. Skipping Violet probably. Might even pick up Lets Go Pikachu.

I don't know if this is the right place to post this but I think this makes it unlikely that Metroid Prime is coming this year:

Metroid is totally not coming this year. When it sounds too good to be true (i.e. a remake of my favorite game ever), it definitely is, especially with Nintendo. I still wonder why Grubb is hanging onto it.

You can knock each of them out in about 20-30 hours. TWEWY is sublime (seriously, it made me a believer in S-E again in the midst of the PS3 era) but I think it is longer than the other two recommendations with a sizable bit of post-game and Final Remix adds more content as well.

DO NOT sleep on the other 3. And really you want to play Chrono Cross after Trigger for the full impact. FFIX is Sakaguchi's favorite. Even VIII is worth a look despite its reputation as it's an ambitious rethink of the series mechanics which doesn't really stick the landing but it's an interesting title years later.

So Metroid Prime HD remaster Twitter drop this week?
We are more than a week from the Direct so it’s more plausible, but I don’t think it’s this week.

October feels like a better month for Metroid news and Indie World. Rabbids isn’t until the 20th, so those first two weeks are open.

I don't believe MPHD is happening this year. But if it actually is, I'd say the latest possible announcement date is October 14th.

Two to four-ish weeks out from release for the announcement feels right to me so I’m not crossing out early November even, but October feels most right. The only thing new allegedly are the new graphics and probably control options. There shouldn’t be too much to explain.

I don't know if this is the right place to post this but I think this makes it unlikely that Metroid Prime is coming this year:

An event for the press doesn't mean anything for whether Prime gets released this year or not. They can't show off off a game that hasn't been announced yet and they're not going to pause press events to wait because they have other games to sell.

The biggest indication that Prime may not release this year is because it hasn't even been announced yet, not because Nintendo held some press event where we don't even know what games were there in the first place.

I know it was a very special circumstance, but 3D All Stars was announced two weeks before release so it's not beyond the realms for Ninty to do a quick turnaround

If anything it could be even month or so, look at Ring Fit, that was roughly a month from reveal to release and was not in covid time.

Can’t speak for Live A Live but I have played all of the other games. Chrono Trigger is a classic for a good reason and it’s like 20-25 hours so it’s the shortest game of the bunch even if you 100% it. TWEWY has a similar-ish length and it’s probably the most jugglable of the bunch since it has a chapter structure. I think you’re in a good spot with either of those two, they would fit all of your criteria perfectly

Now for the PS1 FF games while some will say that IX is the best because that’s Sakaguchi’s favorite or something I think you should just don’t pay too much attention to the Internet discourse and just play them in release order, they are all worth it (FF VIII IS THE BEST DON’T SKIP IT). Like, VII is a legendary game but it’s a bit more rough around the edges than the other two so it makes sense to play it first.

I think the Prime HD announcement could feasibly be timed for the anniversary in November. No idea what release date that would correspond to, though. I guess it could be shadow-dropped (or short notice) digital with a physical release coming next year? Who knows

As a fellow game juggler my instinct is to pick Chrono Trigger. It takes maybe 30 hrs to beat? Add like 10-15 hrs for 100% completion if you wanna go for it, since Chrono Trigger has multiple endings.

If you juggle already 3 games, i would recommend a "shorter" one, either Chrono Trigger or Live A Live.

Thanks for all your input =)

I will bring this all with me, for the next backlog game I play - but I solved my own issue by thinking a step further (probably should have done that in the first place lol) I want to play Crisis Core in December when it releases.. and I think I should play FF7 before that and between M+R2 and Crisis Core releases there's just too much stuff releasing so I wont be able to beat FF7 in the same time but it has to be done before MR2.

I can't believe Switch is about to miss an Omega Force game... for the first time... all thanks to goddamn EA.

Well, congrats on a sales bomba, I guess.

Goddamn somehow I got really lucky with my move timing. A hurricane is about to smash my old city in two days. I just moved into my new place yesterday.

I cannot recommend The World Ends With you enough! If possible, I strongly suggest playing the DS version of the game as opposed to the mobile or switch ports, since the game was initially designed with the DS' hardware in mind and overall delivers a much more enjoyable experience on DS because of that.

Among the other titles you listed, TWEWY stands out the most. If you are looking for something more fresh that stands out among other JRPG titles then TWEWY is definitely your best pick. I hope you end up enjoying the music as much as I do, because I'd say it has one of my favorite soundtracks of all time!

Good morning! If it's still morning. Or even if it isn't. Whatever, it's Monday, and I need more coffee
It's not morning where I am but then again I've been up since well before dawn so I have no idea what time even is at this point.

Pretty quiet day for me. Took care of some paperwork, got my appointments for the week in the calendar. Think I’ll attempt a bit of bass practice then make some lunch. After that I think I’ll dive into some Xenoblade
