It's a reference to an obscure Famicom game, Zelda no Densetsu, which also advertised its female protagonist in the title

OP is wrong. Celeste is Blathers’ star-loving sister. The game was named after her because the devs are huge Animal Crossing fans.

Side note but it bothers me how people exclusively refer to the series as "Banjo" and the Smash Bros. character as "Banjo".

This is Kazooie erasure and I won't stand for it.
 
I bought it (safe bet purchase) and Neon White (risky purchase) a few months back.

Let's just say that I loved Neon White 😬.

For real: Bought Celeste because everyone kept raving about it. I don't usually enjoy insta-fail platformers with spikes everywhere. It leaves so little room for player expression, and unfortunately Celeste was no different. That's fine though, glad it resonates with folks!
