Im...really not pumped. no idea why.

The colors are kinda to far into bright, they are blinding. It lacks contrast.
It definitely is more a step back in regards to "mature" presentation compared to TH.
... at the same time, i feel it did go even further back from that then the 3DS games where.

Summoning past heroes? really not a fan of that mechanic. I like my FE games to be able to stand on their own.
Feels like the future children gimick on steroids.

Echoes Shadows of Valentia definitely hit the sweet spot for me in regards to presentation/style.
At least it seems to not have another split storyline, i was so done with that. In my opinion it never worked well.

Is it official that GUST is helping in the development, with focus on the graphics, as insider(s) claimed?
Because it surely looks like (a more polished and refined, probably due to higher budget) Atelier game (especially with Ryza 3 announced side-to-side in the same Direct lol)

Very similar proportions, for both bodies/armors, and faces/eyes

Lots of lights/shining effects

and a vibrant color scheme, with tons of "bloom" to "enlight" the environments, coming fro the cloudy skies

Not complaining, I started playing Atelier with Ryza1, exactly due to its visual beauty

I hope IS throws gasoline on the Fire Emblem fandom by making villains summon-able by the enemy and they summon Edelgard
I imagine they'd summon Thales if they were gonna summon main villains from old FE games. Summoning Edelgard would be like summoning Camus or the Black Knight. Yes they take on an antagonistic role at times in their stories, but they also take on heroic roles as is needed. I think it ultimately will come down to how many rings are in the main story and how do you obtain them. For all we know the 12 they teased in the opening of the trailer are the only 12. My guess is the part of the dlc expansion will be adding more hero rings for fan favorite characters even if it's only those 12 in the base game.

Well. To be fair. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Black Knight is used as a villain and his mask off is used as the “Hero”. (Assuming they decide to use Black Knight).

Yeah that's kinda why I threw BK with Camus and Edelgard. If they are going to have "recruitable" rings I can see a scenario where their antagonist form are "corrupted" rings and their hero forms are after the good guys liberate them. I'm just not sure how confident I am that there will be recruitable rings.

Regarding the UI that shows 2 hits as separate instead of “x2”, FEH has some skills with damage reduction on the first hit, so we may get something similar here.

still no tweet from the japanese Fire Emblem account, maybe tomorrow?
I expected a steady flow of tweets like Nintendo did for Xenoblade 3.

I believe we see that in the trailer actually when the Alear/Marth fusion is attacking

Divine edition looks a bit weak to me this time around? An extra £40 for a steelbook, postcards, poster and art book feels like a lot when the first 3 are often bundled into launch editions of various rpgs anyway.

I do love an art book, I’m just not sure it’s worth the extra £40 to me 🤔

I'm so excited for this game I'm going through the FE like games that have come out on Steam lately. Right now I'm playing Symphony of War. I'm about 10 chapters in and it's fun. The battle system is exciting tbh. The story is fine. Nothing mind blowing. Dialogue can be middle school level at times but again it's passable. After this I will finally give Dark Deity a go and then I think there is another one later this year.

Yeah I agree. I'm a sucker for the deluxe edition of FE games but this one was a little too much. If it was 89.99 then I would've gotten it but in this economy I can't be too stupid lol. I am a sucker for steelbooks thooooo

Noice, got my 👀 on that one!

Comparisons were invoking both FE as well as Ogre Battle which is basically my bat-signal.

Was able to preorder the DE in-store at GameStop. Cheers to the thread tip that we could do that!

We finally get to know this guy's name: Clan. He's Flamme's twin brother. Second Tweet show off a pretty cool new magic crit. The little bit of map music we get to hear sounds nice, too. I'm really liking how the OST is sounding based off of these short samples we're hearing. Very distinct from 3H!

Flamme and Clan? So the german word for flame/fire and the word Clan?

So the twins are literally called Flame/Fire Clan?

Next you tell me their mom or dad are called Emblem.

I can understand if someone dislike the new art direction about characters, compared to Three Houses or even just because "too anime"...
but visually this game is ten times better than TH: transition are smoother, with little nice touches, animations are way smoother/richer and more fluid, flames/fire/lights/reflection effects on the armors/environments are nice

surely there is a change of tone, compared to TH, but GUST is at work, and they are doing a very nice job

I honestly think it just feels like older Fire Emblem's. So I don't mind the route they are taking. Looking forward to the game :D

I think it's evident how their approach is "sexier" than before (Awakening/Fates/Heroes)
but that's not necessarily a bad thing :p

btw I approached Atelier with Ryza, due to its looking (not because of Ryza herself, lol, but in terms of visual quality I was impressed by this small third party effort, actually looking SO GOOD on the Switch), so I'm actually really glad they went with Gust for a better-looking Fire Emblem

I'm pretty hyped, honestly. Already preordered the limited edition on the My Nintendo store (while waiting for the XB3 LE to be up..!)

Funny how I haven't commented on this yet despite being a huge FE fan lol.

Artstyle is unfortunately not to my liking, specifically the female characters which is weird because I do like anime but something about them feels really off? Still, I'm getting used to it but it is a downgrade in my opinion compared to other FE games.

On the bright side, god damn, this game looks absolutely gorgeous and clean! In fact, I love that the game looks like/reminds me of 3ds FE atmosphere which I really miss.

Combat and animation looks spicy and crunchy and the UI is also really clean.

Soundtrack will obviously be a banger.

I also like that it seems to be 1 route only, no multiple routes which I think should be once in a while.

Now...from the first trailer, the English voice acting doesn't sound amazing to be put it lightly. The last several FE games had excellent VA and I'm hoping it's the same with this one but I'm not feeling confident about that.

Finally...this will sound ridiculous since the game isn't out and no one has played it but for some reason I don't feel confident about the story? I knew from the leaks FE characters from past games will be summoned but I didn't realise it will be actually part of the story. I just don't know to be honest, it dosen't excite me much which is a shame.

At least we have a name of the continent which is immediately better than Fates in reagrds to world building?

Still, since I'm such a FE sucker, this is a day 1 for me but safe to say I'm not that excited as I was to 3H.

At least FE4 Remake is on the way though 👀

I'm pretty hyped by that EVIL DRAGON, that's it.

2022 and we still have to get FE info from fans that translate japanese tweets...

Am I strange in liking Pepsi and Colgate but hating the twins designs? I don't like how beige they are altogether

I think I'm stranger than you, liking Male protagonist, but disliking Female protagonist, despite them being...the same/very similar?
this wasn't a thing, with previous TH/Fates games for me..

I'd like the dude with the beard if the beard wouldn't look like a plastic piece glued to his face.

Seriously, the hair is okay, but they need to work on beards, they look strange.

I agree that the voice acting sounds pretty meh in the trailer, but I also thought that about the VO in the Three Hopes trailers, yet it sounded just as good as Three Houses in-game, so it may just be out of context lines that sound weird in trailers but fine in game. I assume Nintendo is still using the same dubbing studio they've used for every modern FE game except Fates, (including Warriors 1 & 2 and Heroes) so I have faith that it'll be good.

Well, I guess Ursula has hair over her eyes as well so I can’t complain about MC’s bangs.

Still, Engage’s art style doesn’t particularly seem like a throwback to classic FE (which, to me, is FE7).

Those are my exact feelings. I hate the art direction and the character design is very weak, but the actual quality of the animations and rendering is nicer in every way. I wish I could've had both though ahahahah

I mostly worried about the story. While it wasn't perfect, TH's story was a big step up from the previous games and with Engage it feels like it's going to good ol FE plot.

To like, grossly over-generalize, the FE games can be sort of divided into two camps-- focused on the relationships between several nations, or focused on beating up a big bad dragon with a sword... Sometimes there's overlap, and many of the beat-up-a-big dragon games have great characters/stories.

Anyway, definitely feels like after we got another great FE world in terms of political machinations and intrigue, we're back to the beat-up-a-dragon genre. of course, having played every game in the series, I'm still very excited to try this one and see how they do it!

Plus, if the 12 lords get a good focus (pls don't just focus on Marth) we'll get to hang out with Leif and Ike again, which is dope.

I think I am somewhat ok if the story is very old school FE, you know save the kingdom and kill the dragon after 3H. While I loved 3H, I think this game could serve as a palate cleanser after the more darker and "grounded" (for a FE game) story. And if the next game is Geneology, yeah I am ok having a more light hearted story in between somewhat darker entries.

Granted, this is all based on a 3 minute trailer and some post info. No matter how light hearted a FE game looks, there will still be dark tones in the story.

They look fine design-wise, my main issue is that they look like they’re like… 12 years old. Unless that’s intended? But I feel like the female MC also looks much younger than the male MC. Something about the eyes, maybe?

Good point. If we really do get FE4 Echoes next, we'll have a very dense, complicated plot. Maybe keeping it simple for this go around will be a wise choice in the bigger picture 😂

I really don't care about having a classic story. The GBA games and even Echoes had a classic story but told in a very good way. Three Houses had a dense storyline but that is not the case for the majority of the other FE's games.

This is a good point—execution is a very important part of writing and storytelling and can heavily affect the quality of said storytelling. Poor execution is something that I think Three Houses struggles a lot with. Having a dense, deep, dark, etc. story only means so much when it's incredibly lacking in execution. Even if Engage has simpler and less grounded writing and storytelling, it could still end up being really good if it's executed well, not to mention the much better presentation and production values this game has in comparison to 3H (although I guess you could also consider presentation and production values an aspect of story execution).

Like, lowkey, I unironically think Engage could end up having a better story than 3H if the execution is better.

The aesthetics are whatever, I can get used to anything, but I'm going to need to see that the game is doing something interesting with its story before I bite

The "summoning past heroes" bit makes the game feel more like a spin-off than a mainline entry, and I worry it's going to take away from what should be the focus: the characters and how they relate to each other and the world they live in

Three Houses had the best character writing of any Fire Emblem released in English so far, and the tone set by that initial trailer isn't very promising

Psst, Plot Twist.

1/3 of the way thru the campaign you are faced with an important choice!! The game then splits into what is canonically known as the Red Route and the Blue Route.

But fret not! Nintendo is working super hard on a meaty DLC where everyone ultimately has tea together and everything is swell. This is apparently canonically referred to as the Purple Route. And Wow Tiki also becomes recruit-able in this route!!! 🐉 ♥️

I am looking forward to the inevitable "Fire Emblem Direct", probably in mid-Dec to really blow out what is going on. I'm going to guess that there will ultimately be around the same number of new characters (not counting past Lords) as Three Houses, if not more. Gotta feed that Heroes virtuous gacha cycle after all!

Also didn't get the greatest first impression on character designs but one thing from the trailer that partially assuages concerns is that it seems like this new entry will have a particular focus on providing a lot of different outfits/looks for the characters. So hopefully there will always be a look or three available to mitigate any potentially lame designs.

Well it was suppose to release around the 30th anniversary as a celebration title but covid happened so it makes sense to "summon heroes". Also outside of the 2 warrior games, recent endeavors, FE does not do spinoffs (TMS is technically a new IP), all games are mainline, even remakes.

Well it be written as 3H? Idk, maybe/maybe not, we don't have enough to go on (curious of the staff on this project). At the very least its a holdover until, if rumors are true, FE4 comes around the corner.

I’m liking more and more of this, the more clips I see. For some reason it’s giving me flashbacks to Path of Radiance/Radiant Dawn- maybe it’s just seeing the bright colours again or something, or the relatively simple combats they’ve shown off.

I’m still not a fan of the main character design. I don’t even think it’s the hair, I think it’s that heroes in bright white clothes on the battlefield at the start of the game feel like they are wearing overblown endgame outfits or something. But then I guess If they’ve been asleep a thousand years maybe that’s just their hero pyjamas from back then :D

I appreciate this is a really petty complaint and am here to take my critical hits for it.

Holy shit, for some reason I was thinking "I guess we'll have to wait for the February direct to see a new trailer" but no, the game comes out in January.
They're going to show a ton of stuff in the upcoming months or just do an fe direct.
I love when games are announced so close to release.

I'm ready Nintendo, IS and Gust. I got my Divine Edition pre-ordered on the My Nintendo Store.

(I also have a second one pre-ordered on Amazon.de which as of now is more expensive, but surely will drop in price. If anyone is interested in it and had no luck getting an order in, just hit me up, maybe i can keep the second order and sell it (at not extra cost) to someone. Though this might only be interesting for germans as i don't know how expensive shipping would become otherwise.)

To be fair, the same could be said about Three Houses first trailer.

More generally, if there's something to learn about the whole TH pre-release and launch cycle, it is that 1st impressions can be very deceiving. Opinion only turned around on TH through leaks and launch.

Alright guys what do you think of these predictions:
September: Reveal/Announcement trailer
October: Nothing but the JP twitter tweets
Early or Mid November: 2nd Trailer
Mid December: Fire Emblem Engage Direct + First Story Trailer
Close to Mid January: Final Story Trailer
