News Sakurai starts his own youtube Channel "Masahiro Sakurai on Creating Games."

Wow I can’t believe everyone was so right about Sakurai retiring…

A Masahiro Sakurai YouTube channel is so far up my alley it’s coming out the other end

I cannot wait to watch all of his work. Holy shit I’m so stoked

guess this answers the "what do you do after smash ultimate" thread 😂

Sakurai has made some stinkers (Smash Wii U) and some all timers (Brawl), but he did make Kirby Dream Land which is arguably a perfect game so there's probably some good info here.

Hate to admit it but Sakurai becoming a YouTuber was not on my bingo card

Seriously though this is so cool. I wonder if it will be like video versions of his Famitsu columns?

This is a fantastic initiative, and just from watching the introduction video, I'm on-board. I'm all for game developers in the industry spreading their knowledge and perspective on making games in easily accessible ways. And the presentation quality from the Smash presentations is here front and center. What a neat successor to his Weekly Famitsu column, I'm really excited to see more.

This may be a minor point, but one of the things I appreciate the most is his of his videos as a boost to the skill - "The foundation is the viewer's experience, skill, and way of thinking." It's a perspective that's important. All the industry experience and a personal way of thinking aren't going to lead to objective, correct ways to make a game, but hearing another's perspective can help with your own insights and approaches.

TBH I hope he’s done with Smash. Ultimate can be continuously ported going forward and Nintendo really feels the need to make a new Smash from the ground up they should give it to new blood.

Have Sakurai make something actually new and not stale.

I really like the first real video, the importance of giving games "oomph" is something I care a lot about. That's one of the reasons I tend to like Nintendo games so much-- they aren't really "gameplay first" like a lot of people tend to label them, they put things like the feeling of the player first.

Those Smash Fighter presentations must have given him the itch to do more video stuff. Even when it was a character I didn’t care about I watched anyway because he was always a fun and entertaining presence. I’ll definitely be checking out his channel.

Yeah I don’t think he is gonna turn down the possibility of making another Smash when given the chance, even in a producers role. Making Smash combines many of his passions and he seems fine with doing Smash as his legacy.

Happy for him! He seems to be really excited about this. I have a hunch that he will step away from Smash/Nintendo in general and work on a multi-platform game, perhaps something that skips Nintendo altogether.

wow I never would have guessed this but this is fantastic. Will watch every single video. I can see this being an inspiration for (creative) work im general. This is the best!!

This second coolest thing he could have announced. The first one being a Kid Icarus uprising 2 announcement.

As a huge Sakurai fangirl, this is literally the best thing. Hyped to watch absolutely everything he uploads.

First video was already very interesting, and i am loving the style on these.

I just watched all three videos. I really like his presenting style and the video on stopping for big moments was something I'd never thought about before!

This is the most awesome and wholesome thing.

Sakurai is one of those developers that have my utmost respect, and him doing this is just pure gold.

Side note: the second video explicitly mentions Sakurai’s “next game” so I’m pretty sure he’s not done.

I mean he is only 52. he could easily do games for the next 10-15 years. Never understood the assumptions that he should be done.

He regularly talks about health problems stemming from development pressures, so it's been a fair assumption that he would make like Matsuno and take an extended or permanent break from development at some point.
