I know I make it sound like a horror show and there are definitely implications, but I also hope it isn’t “anti-kid” or any of that shit. for all of the abyss shit, I do want it to feel friendly, and approachable, and enjoyable

the darker optional parts of the game are also meant to have some of that curiosity and wonder — two of the main paths that could lead you there are wanting to find all the possible Grögols (wonder) or trying to help a kid find her lost guardian (kindness)

I love adding chaos and terror and weirdness to the mix but I’m guided by wonder and kindness as the underpinnings. gentle wonder. curiosity. true kindness, not that surface level shit.

These two things wouldn't happen to be related, would they?
definitely not, actually

the horse incinerator is optional and the consequences — which will find you — are Chaos Grögol related

the assassination is a past event that is more or less a “soft” assassination, but it takes you a while to figure it all out

also I’m not a complete monster — the horse incinerator is… I wouldn’t say reversible, but you might find out that death begets life, much much later in your travels

day care: tired 💤
horse incinerator: fired 🔥

Here's a picture of what I have for Goldmarsh so far:

Needs a couple of dungeons in town, besides the giant gold ziggurat with the satellite dish on top. That's more of an end-game dungeon.

It's kind fucked up that Gandalf endangered the lives of the people living in Minas Tirith by using the city as a distraction to clear the way to Mt. Doom for Frodo.

I'm not familiar with the books so much but isn't the whole thing that if the ring is destroyed Sauron is just gonna wipe out everyone anyway?

So either he uses the city as bait or they all die anyway.

Wasn't one of the things about the Maiar that they couldn't be directly involved in events that shape the world as their role was to guide and influence the actual peoples of Middle Earth instead?

So like, if Gandalf sees this really bad shit coming, he can't actually do anything about it, he's gotta wrangle up actual people to do the doing. And Minas Tirith is basically the front line, so, who else?

I might be grossly misinterpreting the lore but unfortunately I lost Colbert's number so I can't call to clarify.
Ahem well actually: Gandalf can intervene, lead, and convince, but is forbidden from using his power as a Maiar to intimidate, coerce, or force people to follow him and his designs.

It's also incorrect to suggest Sauron attacks Minas Tirith because of Gandalf or Pippin. Sauron attacks Minas Tirith because of a misconception, a failure in his thought, that ultimately leads to his doom. Sauron, so obsessed with power and dominion, cannot fathom that his enemies would seek to destroy the ring. He therefore assumes that his enemies will, at some point, seek to use the ring from a position of strength (this line of thinking may well be strengthened by Sauron's interactions with Denethor and Saruman via the palantir: Sauron knows that both of these influential and ostensibly wise beings would, if given the chance, claim the ring for themselves and use it).

Assuming that his enemies will use the ring, Sauron tries to anticipate their moves. Minas Tirith is capital of the strongest free kingdom remaining, seat of his ancient enemy, heirs of Numenor (which Sauron hated and feared); Sauron therefore assumes that his enemies' plan would be to protect the ring at Minas Tirith, and then strike out from there with it. He doesn't know who has, or will use the ring; but he can assume that either his enemies will agree as a group to use the ring, or that the strongest among (Gandalf, or Aragorn) might claim and use the ring of their own will.

Ultimately, Sauron hates Minas Tirith (because it was founded by refugees from Numenor); it is the enemy stronghold closest to Mordor; and it is home to people who may well use the ring if given it (as Boromir and Denethor evidence). He would attack it regardless of Pippin's presence. In the books, the attack happens earlier than Sauron plans because of Aragorn revealing himself to Sauron via the Palantir. Sauron's decision to move before his preparations are complete leads to things going astray for him. But the attack was coming anyway, as were attacks on the other powerful kingdoms on the front line of the West (Dale and the Lonely Mountain, Lothlorien, and Mirkwood are all attacked at the same time as Minas Tirith).

Does Gandalf have sex? Can Gandalf have sex? I expect @MisterSpo to answer these questions and any other questions I have about the biology and ritual of the Istari.
I don't know about that, but I do know Tolkien did lots of maths to figure out how quickly Elves could reproduce so that he knew how much time would have to pass before they'd have a large enough population to settle cities and kingdoms and fight wars and basically settled on having Elves age and mature at different rates over time in order to get around the problem he'd introduced by having immortal beings as the mainstay of his mythos.

I’ve been thinking about just dripping fortnite mainly because if I don’t want to get trapped in buying the skins for it when I buy some for fall guys already and find them at cheaper value anyway in comparison

This is why it's just easier to not have other races/sentient species in fantasy stories. Humans have a pretty well defined biology.

For anyone making a game, this is an important conversation for you to listen in on. If you're making a fictional race or creature, you must be able to answer fundamental questions like "Does my fictional creature fuck?". If you can't answer that simple question, then the immersion begins to fall apart.

And that’s how you wind up with stuff like SMT’s Mira

The year of SRPG has most likely lost one participant in Marvel's Midnight Suns (current gen delayed from October to "later in the fiscal year", last gen and Switch versions further out), but that still leaves us with
  • Triangle Strategy
  • The DioField Chronicle
  • Tactics Ogre Reborn
and, unless they don't end up making it in time
  • Front Mission 1st Remake
  • Mario + Rabbids SoH
  • Metal Slug Tactics
  • maybe Advance Wars
And this is only listing games that have already been announced.

One of the things I love about Famiboards is that someone can "well actually" me about Tolkien and I know I'll enjoy and appreciate what follows.

Is this a Metroid?

Remember when Brian Setzer was on The Nanny for no real reason at all?
Us Nick@Nite kids remember.

If re-releases count, NISA's Classics Vol 3 has La Pucelle, one of their best SRPG's. Never played that one, I'm keeping an eye on it.

Went into the Steam forums for Guilty Gear looking about Deck support for Strive and that was a fucking mistake

Good god.
Let me guess, a bunch of intolerant edgelord fucks are pissing and moaning about how ArcSys wrote Bridget into a character of substance who's actually empowering for trans people

Got back into Bowser's Fury over the past two days. I played 3D World for the first time last year and kinda forgot the extra game existed! It feels like 3D World but completely 3D, with semi-open shine collection sort of like Odyssey. I dig it.

It's also making me want the next 3D Mario to come sometime soon. I can only hope!

It sucks having a great idea for a big twist and ending and not being able to share it cause it'll kinda spoil the surprise for all 5 of the people who will play my game.

At least you can count on me to be among those excited to see this mega twist 😋

Liking my steam deck so far, but I will say this:

If you're used to plug n' play then you're in for a stressful time. Also I emphasize that it is a handheld, the docking capabilities so far are horrible. I'm playing gtaV and it looks low res and has black bars on the side.

I'm not here to shit on the Steam Deck but, I think it was overhyped. However, I have to say the handheld experience is second to none.

I want to play more XC2 but my back has me bed-ridden for the moment and I refuse to play that game in handheld mode.

My conversion to weebdom continues with Garden of Words by Makoto Shinkai.

Beautiful film, both visually and narratively. Exquisite sense of place and atmosphere, and a moving character study.

Have also reached the point where I search every Asian grocery I can find on a quest to taste every flavour of Strong Zero.

I do feel people are overlooking that Advance Wars 1+2 RBC seems to likely be something NOA and Wayforward likely intiated, there’s not even a Japanese release. It’s also why a western event impacted the release so much. And I imagine it’ll pop back up in the next couple months with an announcement to release window of 2-3 weeks like SM3DAS

God I hope so. I need that game.

I'm mad that the franchise's return to life has been so cursed and I strongly believe it deserves much better, but if I have to say goodbye I would at least like to end on a good note with a decent remake.

"I think I'll advance the story in Xenoblade 3 a bit and then go to bed early since I'm pretty tired"

Surprise! Two hour long anime movie! We're flexing our CGI budget. Bringing out the vocal themes. Buckle up chump!

There have been multiple scenes and sections of the game that I’ve felt could legit just be an anime. I can’t praise the cutscene work and animations (and voice acting) in the game enough

I’ve been playing Xenoblade 3 slower than other people I think, as in, I’ve played 85 hours and I’m still on Ch5

oh shit the feds are raiding famiboards!!

meet the Featheral Birdeau, determined antagonists who would rather be obliterated than leave you (plus an old man and a literal child) alone

left to right:
  • Birdeau Grunt
  • Agent Mildew
  • Agent Poultry
  • Agent Violence
  • Agent Arms
tune in to find out which one of them is actually trying and how the weight of expectation, singular drive, and towering hubris can have unbelievably horrible consequences!
