Can't wait for Pokemon to have its Mad Max moment

Gotta save it for the Australian region

I miss when presentations had spin-offs announced for consoles and not just updates for the same handful of mobile games.
I hate that too. I would have never sit down and watch news about any of these mobile spin offs in the first place, but the cafe mix one was particularly iiritating with the "tips" section; felt so dragged out and unnecessary.

I would argue against both (and some are certainly not communicating the former explicitly).

Running to an end game area, somehow surviving, then finding out that the local boss has a level 10 Pansage isn’t fun. It crushes any immersion in the world you may have, and flattens out the experience so that basically everyone has the same experience (with a few tweaks here and there).
That’s why you can also designate “easy” and “hard” gym leaders. Like there’s going to be a gym leader whose Pokemon would never go below level 40. Stuff like that. It’s really a matter of implementation.

Are you thinking of Oblivion? Cause Skyrim actually had a really good level scaling for what the game was going for.
Nah I’m definitely thinking of Skyrim, I didn’t like the scaling in that game.

"seen" was changed to "battled"

Dang that Pokedex is looking classy.

I'm really loving what we saw and that new mechanic, even though the game looks a bit rough overall (especially while playing XC3) but it's not like I expected much more on current hardware.

Not sure about one thing though: does Terastal activation completely replace a Pokémon's type(s) to its Terastal type (only retaining original type(s) for potential STAB), or does it add that new Terastal type?
Maybe a concrete example will illustrate my question better: say Eevee has a Water Terastal type, upon activation, does it become Normal/Water or only Water (but still retaining a STAB on Normal attacks)?

for single type mons, they become the new type. so eevee would be water only. dual types, we don't know yet

I thought the aliasing was really distracting in the trailer, so I tried pixel counting a couple of shots, and they're 720p.

Terastal sounds like an interesting concept at first glance. For one, it enforces a single type and not adding an extra type. From this, I infer that it would not be completely favourable to the dual types, which is an issue I have with dual types due to how much more advantageous they are compared to the single types (see: Heracross vs. Pinsir, the former is superior mainly for its dual type).

The single-use and temporary change that it grants to a Pokemon seem like a better use of a new way of battling compared to something like Mega Evolution, which only confers battle advantages to select Pokemon, so it's not universal.

Thank you for reading.

Game Freak really needs a collaborator who can handle greater ambition tbh. I think either Bamco or Monolith Soft would be great for them. The latter is occupied with other matters granted, but still.

From what I can tell, GF has never attempted to make another large scale project with all the Pokémon money, and they're much happier doing small scale stuff like Tembo.

Having 3 story routes seem interesting, I have been saying in my friend group that I wish the games took a bit more cues from the anime.

If you want to play the old school way you can do the league challenge like Ash you can.

On the other hand if you want to play through the contest league like May/Dawn you can, complete with its own story line and characters that you would only interact with by doing that route.

Or maybe you go down a lore route that involves you becoming the assistant to that region’s Pokémon professor, you go and explore different ruins or learning more about Pokémon and how they live like the Pokédex in PLA.
Something like the way Elder Scrolls does it, but this time it just works.

Eh, like I said in another thread, the Legends series is better marketed as the "Pokémon for older players". I think the primary series could still use the guidance to keep younger players in mind.

unless you're asking for those collaborating companies to take point in development and designing, I don't think it's gonna help. there are a lot of hands on Pokemon as is. timelines and tools seem to be the biggest bottleneck here

Ubisoft was able to pump out a content-stuffed open world game every year at one point. Sure, they were repetitive as hell, but that's the kind of timeline Pokémon could use if they really want the consistent 2-3 year schedule.

they should let another developer make a mainline-style pokemon game

That'll probably just lead to a Star Wars sequel trilogy case. Mainline Pokémon needs the people with the vision (GF) and the people with good tools and ambition (an outside collaborator) working together.

there's a reason they were capable of doing that

it's also the reason there's no natural credits rolling in the game and you have to select it from a menu

Last time Nintendo tried to make a game the Ubisoft multi-studio around-the-world way, Metroid Prime 4 crashed and burned.

It's also fair that, while every developer in the world is allowed, at any time, to do a mainline pokemon style game and do it better, the people who invented Pokemon get to keep Pokemon.

I don’t actually mind this, especially the move thing. I like being prompted to add a move to my pool; in PLA I would frequently miss the fact that my mons even learned new moves at all. Now being able to swap out moves on the fly sure would be nice to keep, but I kind of doubt it. I’m operating under the assumption that nothing from PLA will be carried over to this game at all until proven otherwise.

The new move notification in Arceus was too subtle but I liked the level up change. At the end of the day if mashing through two extra text prompts every once in a while is the cost of the first true open world Pokemon then shrugs

You know, at least if we can see shiny Pokémon in the open world without triggering the encounter, that’s fine and much better than any prior game that required you to make encounters repeatedly, and having to go through the same animations constantly, sending your Pokémon and such.
Random encounters like in Sw/Sh should be gone too so you should be able to choose which species to encounter at any time.

The things listed in the tweet are a bummer yes, but my point is that they’re nowhere near as bad as they could be since you shouldn’t « need » to do wild encounters as much in these games, supposedly a lot less actually.

We’ll also have a better idea of all of this when we have more gameplay videos released, hopefully soon enough!

Thinking about it, I get the feeling that since the inspirations for the regions are extremely easy to identify (e.g. Kalos is clearly based on France), the developers decide to withhold the region's name this time, only revealing that it's Paldea in a recent trailer. Of course, despite not revealing the name so soon, it didn't take long to know that it's a Spain-inspired region, helped by how the starters are named.

Also, there is a theory that Arven is related to Sada and Turo, and since only one of them appear at a time (I don't believe both of them appear together), I have a theory that Sada is the ancestor of Arven and Turo is the descendent of Arven, and based on their theming of past and future respectively, they somehow traveled to the present time.

Thank you for reading.

I'm expecting a new trailer this week like the one during SS's marketing phase

Already? I was thinking it might be another couple weeks still, but I wouldn't mind another. I guess we're now only three months out, so the marketing is going to kick in pretty hard soon.

Didn't they take forever to do starter evos during Sword and Shield? I know Sun and Moon they were leaked before the reveal, but I don't remember last gen.
IIRC didn't they never officially reveal the start evos last Gen? We only saw them in leaks a week or two before launch.

Worlds reveals are usually relevant to the event, whether thematically (Crabrawler reveal) or directly (SwSh's set of abilities, items). Though announcing the reveal ahead of time may be to generate more excitement, it could also just be to split up the news and get people watching both ceremonies, or because they want to tie the SV reveals into the announcement of future competitive circuit info. They might announce that the next host city is in Spain, for instance.

That's what I remember, I didn't see any of the S/SH starter evo's until they were leaked on resetera.
