Ok this is driving me crazy
Why the toads and yoshi in the opera house of Sydney just jpegs? And they are so close you can literally see how flat they are.
I don't understand

Yeah, wave 2's pretty grand. Didn't like the flat visuals in New York Minute, but the lap changes are solid and the music is spectacular. Sydney Run comes off better visually, again has excellent music, and again has good lap changes. Better than the city courses from Wave 1 on both counts.

Mario Circuit 3 and Snow Land make me wish we got a few more no/low frills courses. The former is just great to race on and the second I thought works really well both visually and in terms of the musical arrangement. Happy to see what other GBA tracks make the jump. Kalimari Desert and Mushroom Gorge really shine with this visual style; the latter especially, is like Shroom Ridge. The curves and soft green hills just work with that aesthetic. Great musical rearrangement for Kalimari Desert. Waluigi Pinball I've always loved; not sold on just how garish the colour pallette is but that's Waluigi for you.

Sundae Skydive I'm mixed on. Visually, there's a lot going on, the music is pretty good; I think this is one that'll be fun with friends. Easy to see how those blind jumps will be anxiety and giggle inducing, and how satisfying it'll be to catch people as they make one of the many, many jumps. Also easy to fathom how infuriating it'll be to get hit...

I'll no doubt have fuller thoughts after I've played each track a few times, but my immediate impression is the music is a sheer delight across the board.

My second most immediate impression was seeing Sky-High Sundae was an all anti-gravity course and the buzz a while ago about how this was surely an F-Zero course and since those are both anti-gravity courses...

Sundae skydive is perfect for 200cc
With that I've beaten all the new grand prix
Amazing 2nd wave and can't wait to play online next.
It looks like the lazy developers became less lazy this time around.

I played only three new tracks so far but was surprised at my takeaway…

Sydney Sprint, Snow Land and Waweegi Pinball

I liked them most in that order.

because these are cheap ports that happen to have incredible music

be grateful they're cheap

I lost the link to the brightened icons, will try and find again.

Of course when the whole lobby picks Mushroom Gorge except for 2 people, their choice of Sweet Sweet Canyon gets picked....

Sky-High Sundae is probably a top five Mario Kart track for me, alongside Waluigi Pinball. Not the biggest fan of the Turnip Cup (I don't like the visuals of NY Minute or Mario Circuit 3) but when these tracks hit, they HIT.

Mario Circuit 3 is like, egregiously ugly

the shadows of some background blocks and toads are broken

but god damn if it isn't the most fun course in the DLC

Played both Grand Prix back to back.

Very impressed with this wave! Not a dull track in the bunch.

Other than my horrible OCD with the bright icons, this update is fantastic. I hope everything but Toad Circuit gets fixed because we need to keep the joke of it being god awful a running gag

Toad Circuit is definitely best with your eyes closed xD .

I'm really glad to see more positive reception for Wave 2 this go around. Ignoring any questions about aesthetics, it really feels like they stuck to simple courses the first go around to ease players into things, and now we're getting the more interesting and complex courses. Looking forward to trying them for myself!

...since I forgot to close the Wave 1 poll, gonna give us one last hour for any last minute answer changes (gotta take the Coconut Mall update into account!). By tomorrow (if not later today) I'll have a poll up for Wave 2.

Seriously, if they keep up this difficulty curve shit's gonna go down a few cups from now.

SNES MC3 is low key the best track of the bunch. nice tight corners, plenty of shortcuts & madness going off. going to be a great bagging track.

I feel like an insane man. I found Wave 2 substantially easier than Wave 1, the latter having some very awkward lines and complicated courses that really demanded a lot of tries in grand prix.
Speaking only for Wave 1, I think the big sticking point for me is that Ninja Hideaway can be a kinda awkward course with its extremely sharp right angle turns, making for a sharp jump in an otherwise easy cup. Paris Promenade was also kinda awkward at first but I got used to it.

Would be nice if they could limit the online courses to just DLC courses for, like, a week. Have played the others to death already.

Ninja Hideaway was the only track that I didn't immediately nail in Wave 1. All city tracks in Wave 2 gave me a bit of trouble, as well as Sundae of course. The trampolines in Gorge too.

Wait, they're fixing textures too?!

That'd be awesome, but what's even more needed in the graphics department is the great baked lighting and atmospherics that 8 has. BCP looks overly bright and flat to my eyes.

because they'll have ray traced gi on the drake yall!!1

Wave 2 is a real treat. There is not a single track I don't like. The City tracks are also a lot more interesting and fun compared to Paris and Tokyo.

This Wave is a 10/10 on the fun scale. ngl.

I straight up do not agree, and am a little envious of your Wave 1 performance. All of the Wave 1 tracks, even the outwardly simple ones, felt a little awkward at first, while Wave 2 has fantastic lines that you can practically see

Shroom Ridge I can see being challenging with it's tight corners. I'd played Mario Kart DS to death years ago though so still knew that one quite well.

Otherwise, don't be envious. My Mario Karting doesn't bring BotW2 - AKA the only game that truly matters - a single day closer 🥲.

Not had the chance to play yet but pleasantly surprised people seem to think this wave is a lot better than the first. I already liked the first quite a bit so I'm excited to try out the new courses.

I don't know when I'll get to play these but hearing everybody's thoughts makes me very excited. Already loved Wave 1, all the criticism and low points disappeared once I just played.

You are not the only one. Ninja Hideaway alone was more difficult to learn then every track in Wave 2 IMO

Yeah that’s a sore spot for sure, it’s really cool to drive through the opera but then that’s so apparent and jarring it kinda ruins the moment lol

Wow! Incredible, I’m so glad they did that. Now I need to find a picture of what it was before. I vaguely remember.

I did play Toad Circuit to check the grass but I had forgotten the sand sucked too. Grass looked unchanged but I did notice maybe sliiiight texture on it? It still looked the same at a glance but this time I looked pretty close - maybe I just hadn’t done that before.
