Had forgotten about Adventure Acadamia with the previous announcement of Class of Heroes 2g remaster. They just put a new trailer yesterday with a release date of september

Yeah, that is what I figured. I needed a potent healer.

Still, Kaiser Behemoth seems like too bug a task for the time being.
That sounds right. From what I remember the best overall party is generally regarded to be Fang, Hope, and Lightning, with Fang being the lead. But I think pretty much everyone has benefits and uses, and that party also may be after more Crystarium expansions, I don't recall exactly. Been too long since I last played.

Yea the behemoths can be a pain given their buckets of HP when you first arrive Even post-game they take a bit to go down. Once you get more crystarium levels they'll be more approachable.

I forget where I ended up at the end, but Fang is great in both COM and SEN roles.

Still enjoying fuga melodies of steel on Switch. Grab the demo if you haven’t bought it already. One of the best rpg surprises in a while.

Hold up, am I not supposed to be doing this right now? I was going for the cieth stone missions in order. Kaiser Behemoth is mission 9, and it just wrecks me sooner or later after it decides to stand up. Mostly because things go sideways, with my other two party members winding up too close to my tank, thus getting hit as well. Tried different setups and strategies to no avail, even though I came really close to defeating it one time. It somehow manages to reset the stagger meter multiple times throughout the fight, which only makes matters worse.

Guess I will have to sit this one out and see how I will fare against the other targets, because this one at least seems like an unreasonable difficulty spike.

At least for now, Vanille seems to be the only decent healer from what I figured out. Also makes a decent saboteur and ravager. Hope is better for raw damage, but also incredibly squishy and not versatile enough. Might change later on, though.

I had to look this one up but I don't think it's one you're not supposed to be doing at this point. Does COM/RAV/MED or COM/RAV/SEN not work on it?

I finished my Bravely Default playthrough yesterday. That game really overstayed its welcome during the looping portion of the game and I just felt relief when it was finally over. Part of it I was doing all of the asterisk side quests each time, because some would have extra story attached to each one, but not all of the time! If this game didn’t have an encounter toggle where I disabled all random encounters for loops 3-5 after hitting level cap I would have dropped it hard.

I know this game is old enough it’s literally about to be delisted in eight months, but I’ll throw some ending talk behind a spoiler tag because I was pleasantly surprised by a lot of it.

So I had long heard about the title change, since people were always so enthusiastic about it so I sadly knew the big twist walking in. That said I was surprised how it played out since I didn’t know any of the details and I didn’t know anything about the parallel worlds. So I dug learning about the countdown on Airy’s wings for example and her true form was shockingly hideous. I thought she’d be a big snake since I had heard the name of the final boss theme “Serpent Eating The Ground” prior as well.

But while that twist was cool, I really enjoyed the final battle twists that I had never heard anyone talk about prior. I don’t think it’s perfect, but I always love when developers take advantage of hardware features for big story moments.

So luckily I had played this game at launch for a while since I had had some good streetpasses lined up to summon for the final boss (sadly no registered friends for the planet’s blowing up). I also got a big kick out of the celestial realm literally being my tired face at 5:30AM for the final marathon session to beat the game. It was very funny and it made me sad neither of these features could likely be done again. While not on VR level, I really dug the special movie too that teases Bravely Second with Tiz in a pod. I was sitting up on my bed thankfully and could easily spin around in 360 degree motion. It looked great with the 3D effect and the gyro was up to the task!

I definitely didn’t dig the five phase boss fight (again exhausting and my strategies were long set by then), but it was a very good ending overall.

Overall, I’m glad I played it, but the ending is so drawn out and exhausting I can’t recommend actually beating it even if the final ending stuff is quite cool. I’m looking forward to moving onto Live A Live for reals tonight.

It kind of works, if everything goes well. I think it might be a lot more doable if I manage to trick it into getting a pre-emptive strike.

Edit: Managed to do it without a pre-emptive strike by adding RAV/SEN/SAB to the mix as well. Five stars even. Feels good to have cracked it.

Digimon cyberslueth chapter 11-12
Boy that was a heavy hitting moment. Glad I got to save Yuuko from her own self doubt. Chapter 12 was just exposition but considering the shakeup of the digital shift actively changing Tokyo and it getting invaded plus the lore drops mean some major stuff incoming. Don’t know if I’ll beat this before xbc3 tho

This is one thing I love about FF13 endgame: Sure, sometimes the answer is just "level up more" or "improve your weapon more", but oftentimes the hunts or harder battles are more like puzzles, and you just have to solve them with the right combo of paradigms, timing, and knowing what to expect. And while I'm often down on the concept of "you have to learn the fight by doing it and failing so that you then know what to equip or do differently" since it's repetetive and can get old, FF13 generally makes it so quick and snappy to retry battles and you don't lose anything to do so that it's fairly painless.

So hype for xbc3, But can I get through cyberslueth before it? I’m on chapter 13, I have a sleuth rank of 13, I have a dozen or so ultimate/mega mons. Now that I think about it do I need to keep doing side cases or grinding for a while?

This is me with LiveALive. I think I can do it, since I only have about 8-10 hours left I think? But the hype for XC3 is soooooo high right now

I'm in a similar place as some of you. Playing Future Connected and am 9 hours in. Have to finish this by Friday.

About the game, I like the updated fashion the two main protags have. Music's nice, and some smaller changes like that you get these coins from unique monsters to buy arts books, or that you get all of these fetch and kill quest from one NPC all at once instead of "talk to them once to get monster hunt quest 1, talk again to get 2" and so forth.

Curious to see how these places have changed in Xenoblade 3.

I really really shouldn't have started Fire Emblem Awakening a couple nights ago while I wait for Live A Live to arrive tomorrow. I'm trying to get to the part where Spotpass downloads and the eShop unlock and I'm pretty sure this has the potential to get its hooks in me good if I give it ample time. First time playing a FE game and kinda kicking myself for not having given the series a shot earlier.

Psyched for ya!

With Fates and Shadows of Valentia also on there (and ofc Three Houses on switch) you got a lot to look forward to.

And hopefully GBA on NSO arrives soon and brings Blazing Blade and Sacred Stones w/ it 🙏

I really dug Future Connected. Seems like with the pace you played Xenoblade Chronicles you should be all done in time for Friday. I’ve been posting in the Live A Live thread, but I’ve done 4 sections so far. Might make it in time, but not worried if I don’t.

I just played Awakening for the first time last month and had a great time! I think it unlocks at chapter 4 iirc.

Pumped the brakes on Live A Live a bit for the time being to finally wrap up FF13 (currently in chapter 12), and tbh I am somehow not really feeling XB3 right now. Might simply play it a couple of weeks/months later, like I did with XB2 as well. No idea what happened here, I was initially very excited for it.

Also…
Screw you, Barthandelus. I handed your ass to you twice. You ran away twice. If I have to kick your ass a third time I will be pissed.

Already grabbed the other two 3DS games and will be picking up Three Houses. I’ve still got a functioning Wii U so I can snag whatever is on VC if nothing comes to NSO before March 2023

People might be sick of reading about FF13 at this point, but I am stuck on the Proudclad rematch boss fight in chapter 12 (2nd phase specifically) and I need a place to vent my frustration.

Tried different combinations, even did the unspeakable in looking up strats online, and I can not do it.

I have put around 50 hours into Rune Factory 5 on PC since launch a couple weeks ago.

Now that XC3 is imminent I realized I really want to play it soon, but im about 2/3 the way through XC1 and maybe 1/3 through 2 not counting their DLC. So I have picked up my XC 1 save and been playing it for a couple days. I am
about to take the elevator to Agni Rathi or whatever city is on Mechonis head

anyone know how much more time I have to beat this game? This is the furthest I’ve ever been and it’s been fun :)

Not sure why this didn’t quote your full post, but for your Xenoblade 1 question you are pretty close to the end at that point. I’d say 10-20 hours depending on how focused you are. You’ll typically beat Xenoblade at level 80 or so if that helps. Future Connected is about 15-20 hours if you play that too.

i would say thats pretty accurate except future connected i beat it at 4 hours and fifty minutes getting half of the nopons and doing very little sidequests.

Ok thanks a lot for this. I think I’m going to try and blast through 1 and the DLC if I’m that close. I want to play 3 so bad but I feel like I really should see the full story up to that point before playing it :)

Hmmm, I honestly didn't even remember this boss. Looking it up online didn't help, either, so I don't really have much advice. Apparently it's easier if you never stagger it, even though it'll take a while?

Finished Chapter 15 of Cyberslueth, Rina is awesome, wish she was the protag. not sure how but I took out the legendary colosseum with this team. Done with Digimon for the night tho. May swap to FEWTH tomorrow as a breather before xbc3… then again I have so much momentum going on this
IMG_5419.jpg

Not sure if I’ll push on this or swap tomorrow for a bit. It’s always tough when you’re in the groove on a jrpg to swap to another. Oh well worse case, I finish this this weekend and start XBC3 next week after playing FEWTH a few days as a breather

Yeah, I dunno. I only ever saw the no stagger advice in reference to the first encounter, but I will check if it also applies to the rematch. If not, I might have to put in some grinding to fill out the crystarium a bit more.

Well, it took 12 gruesome minutes, but I did it. Not staggering him does not change the fight one bit, btw. What made a difference was to have Hope learn Haste, even though it involved a bit of grinding.

Onwards to the final chapter!

Haste is an absolute game-changer in this game and is why I often open with COM/RAV/SYN until you get gear that has Auto-Haste. FWIW, I think Sazh learns it earlier than Hope which is why I was bringing him along for most of the game.

I tried using Sazh for this fight for Haste specifically, but Hope can be an emergency MED as opposed to him, and I went into this fight with a survivability and attrition mentality after nothing else worked for me.

It was only about 30k CP I had to grind anyway, and it meant I could give Lightning and Fang a bit more HP, which helped as well, so it all worked out fine.

I accepted a few days ago that there was no chance of me finishing Trails in the Sky SC before Xenoblade 3 comes out, so I'll probably have to wait until sometime next week to start it. I've never liked trying to juggle multiple story-driven games because I feel like I end up enjoying both games less, so despite it being my most anticipated game of the year, I can wait a little longer.

...Of course, there's also the chance I'm still not finished with SC even a week from now lol. Not sure how much I have left (on chapter 6 and Estelle just got taken by Ouroboros), but I don't feel like I'm close to the end.

Impressions (Prologue + Part of Chapter 1)

This is my first Atlus game & first game that has much of a connection to the Fire Emblem series.
Right away, I love the style, the music, the vibrant city and pop/idol vibes are a lot of fun.
The cartoon cutscenes are great.
The characters seem fun so far.
I am excited to explore the battle system, especially as more chain-attacks (Sessions) reveal themselves.
Maybe I'm missing out on them, but I feel like there should be more RPG's that take place in the modern, real world. It's so great to have this pop idol management company as a home base, for example.
And hello to Shibuya! I remember that meeting place statue from The World Ends with You!
Naturally, I got a smoothie from the cafe.
I'm about to go into the studio.
I'm thankful that it hasn't gotten pervy. Fingers crossed that continues.
Everything has been smooth sailing so far, and I'm excited to play more.

Tokyo Mirage Sessions impressions (up to Chapter 3)

I'm loving this game! I definitely want to check out more Atlus games. The Fire Emblem connection feels like an afterthought, but that's okay with me.
There are many costume options for the party. I could dress them up like FE characters, but I've been leaning more towards Jojo's Bizarre Adventure-style fashion.
This game combines the usual RPG bones with the setting of modern day Tokyo and the entertainment industry very well. It continues to feel very fresh and fun.
The first chapter's dungeon was a bit of a drag. I liked the second chapter's dungeon with the photographer much more. The design felt more efficient.
Getting a session (chain-reaction attack) is satisfying. It reminds me of the feeling of performing a Break on an enemy in Octopath Traveler, or using Guardian Forces in FF8.
The training dungeon is revealed very early on in the game, and you can totally break the game if you want to.
Harajuku unlocked...!
All of the systems are pretty straightforward. Doing the Unity at the Bloom Palace is just a little bit annoying, but that's my only complaint there.
Gameplay-wise, the side stories and extra content are a mixed bag. Some are fetch quests. Some require nothing besides dialogue and cutscenes. But story-wise, they're all rewarding.
It was funny getting clams, dirt and fungus from the floor of an old dungeon to make a hangover cure for my boss.
Also, the animated music sequences are AWESOME.
"Reincarnation" is my favorite song so far.
I usually appreciate Dark Mage characters, and Kiria is my early favorite. Her Fire Emblem Mirage is the most memorable of the Mirages so far too.
Excited to play more!

I mean to get back to Live A Live, but I can not stop playing FF13. In the final stretch of the game now, and I finally hit the point where Lightning/Fang/Hope is a great combo. Starting out with COM/SAB/SYN or RAV/SAB/SYN is especially tasty when you can prevent enemies from attacking in any way whatsoever through de-buffs, and then just keep raining down attacks on them continuously with a bunch of buffs on your end in COM/COM/RAV configuration. Almost feels like cheating.

Who needs heals if you can't get hit.

Can any Live Alivers tell me how long the Near-Present chapter is? I've heard the Ninja chapter is the longest, and those are the two I've got left before the next phase of the game. Probably do Near-Present tonight, but it's nice to have an idea of how long it'll be, especially because I want to do some reading.

I want to say it took me about 2.5ish hours for Near Future. Edo Japan is 3ish hours and is definitely the longest of the first seven scenarios.

Thanks compadre, might be a little long to get through in one sitting but we'll see. Might not be possible to finish this before I arrive home on Monday, given there's more after that.

Orphan absolutely sucks, and I hate not being able to save between back-to-back boss fights, ugh.

Almost had them once, but then shit just went sideways within a matter of seconds.

Playing Live A Live last night reminded me of one of the low-key best things about Square-Enix titles on Switch: your thumb placement is A-X not B-Y as <insert deity> intended.

Regrettably, this is where I end my playthrough, at least for now. I lack the patience to deal with this fight atm. Maybe I should have returned to Gran Pulse after all before pressing on, but I really wanted to wrap this up for good. Oh, well.

Overall, though, I fell in love with FF13's battle system, and definitely enjoyed my time with the game. This goes in the "good FF" pile for sure. No clue what to call the battle system. It is ATB at its core, but has extra layers with the paradigm shifting which make it feel more strategic. I dub it "peak FF combat."

Feels bad to abandon this right at the finish line, but I might return to it one day.

Yea Orphan is a bit of a kick in the teeth (like pretty much every FF final boss in my experience). I think it took me a couple tries to down them. Debuffs I think are really useful but even knowing some of the strategy around it the execution didn't leave a lot of room for error I felt.

The good news is that if you do return to the game, there's a sizable amount to do back on Gran Pulse after you take down Orphan if you enjoyed the structure of the Pulse section.

This is my main gripe with this fight. Everything can go splendidly, only for it to fall apart incredibly quickly, without there being much for you to do about it. I feel like you have to get at least a little bit lucky with the fight, and in my half a dozen or so attempts I had no such luck.

Still, whether I return to it or not, this is not affecting my overall enjoyment of the game.

After a week, I finished Future Connected in 16 hours (and one day too late for Xenoblade 3). It was great to see the cut region from the main game and the music is fantastic. Nene and Kino, who are the playable characters besides Shulk and Melia, flesh out Riki's character and emphasize what a good dad and character he is. There isn't much to say about the gameplay. (Just in case, potential XC1 final game spoiler)Shulk lost his visions, so one has to time Monado arts pre-emptively. The ponspectors give the player an additional motivation to explore and at the same time can be used as special attack at a full party gauge.

The story is about Melia - who seemsto have gotten over Shulk - and how she deals with being the empress of the nearly extinct High-Entia and reconquering Alcamoth from the fog king. I guess it connects to the future in the way that Teelan, a boy tied to a quest in the main game, might be able to retransform the Telethia, a mysterious rift (from another dimension?) and Melia's coronation at the end of the game. Now, having seen XC3 trailers, I can't wait how these things actually turn out in the distant future.

I didn’t like Riki all that much when I first played Xenoblade since he is barely in the main story, but everything in Future Connected caused me to do a 180 on the character and my more thorough playthrough with the Definitive Edition where I played all of the side quests and did all of the affinity chart stuff sealed the deal. Riki’s awesome and (having not played 3 yet) him and his children are definitely my favorite Nopon in the series.

How dare you not doing the heart-to-hearts. /s
But seriously, some of them are very important in understanding the characters, with Riki being the primary example imo. Maybe we see one of his distant descendants in 3.

Yeah when I played the game the first time I stuck with the same party almost all the way through so I never saw too many of the heart to hearts. I don’t remember if I saw all of them, but I definitely saw a great deal more with my Definitive Edition playthrough since I made sure to max out everyone’s affinity with Shulk at least.
