The General Discussion thread in the games section of the forum is no place to discuss this issue so I made this thread.

Let's talk because this is quite something.

I said it in the other thread, but

Shit's fucked in this country

Today I feel a mix of despair and rage. This midterm will need literally everyone to go out and vote blue straight down the ticket.

if those people were going to pass meaningful enshrinement, they would have done it

you can’t bluewave out of this shit

clearly it was a bad idea to come back to this after I said I was done so for everyone’s sake, I’m out

You can with enough people to make it so purple voters like Manchin don't matter.

It's an uphill battle, but apathy and nihilism is what the scum who did this want you to feel.

Yeah, apathy is what I want to feel. But dammit I am not going to give in to that feeling.

Edit: I am a citizen of the United States of America and I love my country. Despite every evil act we have done over our history I still believe that we can do better. So for that reason I am not giving up and giving my country over to bigotry, fear, greed, and apathy.

the kids are a solid 50-50 nazis, weebos

it’s over

we are square in the results of the last few major tugs. what did we get?

Biden, who has literally somehow not undone Trump policies but in fact made them worse, let alone his own bad moves that are fundamentally anti-people

sustained and widespread protest? historic action by BLM? now everyone’s fave blue-tie mayors are redirecting school lunch funds to the cops. opposite world.

how much more are you willing to take while the vulnerable among us die for this?

Apathy and nihilism is believing that politics amounts to voting for one of two shit options society shoves down your throat

True hope lies in organisation, protest, and disruption to build power from the ground up to get what you want

This is much harder than voting but the first necessary step is to accept that voting isn't nearly enough

Welp, that's it everyone.

Guess it is just time to fucking roll over and die. Or wait for a few decades when we will be rescued by some other white knight country.

Thanks for the encouragement @Suswave

1. okay so fuck this

2. my point is you can’t keep doing the same shit like it’ll change things, you have to rail against it, unify your community, create systems of care with others because the state won’t do it for you and literally wants me dead, and even if you think you’re not next, you’re fucking next

I apologize for my language to you @Suswave and my tone.

I agree with much of your second point. I still refuse to believe that we can't turn things around.
I don't know what exactly it will take but we have to do something, and it has to start with the grass roots level. But it can't end there.

Like, I don't want this country to break apart, to fracture into splinters. I want America to be the ideal of America it has always claimed to be.
I don't want some revolution because history shows us what revolutions do to the people who live through them.
I don't want to be silent in the face of fascism because history shows us what silence does to people who are silent.

So what? Maybe we all run for some local office. Maybe we continue to hold our reps accountable. Maybe we force the breakup of big business. There is much to be done and much we can do.

You are right that we can't keep doing the same shit thinking it will change things.
But maybe we can do more more more of that shit. Maybe doing even more will create change.
I agree that we have to rail against all of this. Part of that loud cry should still be voting in the midterms.

Disgusting, is all I can say.

As a veteran, I didn't serve this country to see it become one of the exact places I've been where this sort of backwards shit was common and enforced.

Fundamentalism is fundamentalism regardless of borders or belief systems and has no place in modern society.

Depressing. I really hope this rallies people into voting blue but then you see gas prices and such and it's hard to not feel some sort of despair and apathy, at least for me.

Unfortunately "voting blue" doesn't mean much when we live in a binary electoral system where the outcome is already predetermined in advance by the special interests of the filthy rich.

It's all song and dance in the guise of a democratic vote where your choice matters.

But much like shit American light beer at a neighbor's cookout, the reality is that your only choice is between "conservative" and "conservative-light".

A country as powerful as the US should not be this big of an embarrassment. Fuck each and every judge who overturned Roe.
In addition, fuck each and every person celebrating today's news.

Also, fuck each and every person who refuses to vote because their guy didn't win the primaries.

I know things are fucked in the Federal level. Overall, we can look at things that are bad. And boy it is bad.

However, we have to see the forest for the trees here. We need to work harder for our state level elections. That's where we can bring the most change and virtue. Go to your communities. If you want things like Universal Healthcare, basic human rights, a good quality of living. Change things at the state level. Really, it's as simple as that, and that is where you can have the most effect on your own personal life.

This is what Republicans planned to, and succeeded doing. But it works the other way.

Illinois was well on its way to being a shithole state. We had horrific governor over horrific governors. The state was in massive debt. We got someone progressive in charge, and now we can protect women in other states. We are getting rid of taxes on essential goods like food, gas, and school supplies, while getting a small stimulus this July, while also having a budget surplus.

Things are bad, but especially if you live in these states. We need to get organizing. And we need to show that progressive policies work and are amazing, to really showcase them on a federal level. It all starts there. It's a lot easier to make changes in your state than it is the entire country. Let's start there, and then expand federally.

The worst timeline tbh. Please let's be kind and proactive to help women, queer, and all people having a hard time at the moment.

You’re talking about an exceedingly small amount of people that sat out of the general election that participated in the democratic primary.
People who voted for Bernie in the primary voted for Clinton more than Clinton supporters did for Obama in 2008. Clinton lost for a multitude of reasons, many which being of her own design.

Fuck them anyway, along with everyone else who refuses to vote for some noble reason.

People that don’t vote are usually really fucking poor. The outcomes of elections usually have a greater degree of impact on their lives than anyone commenting here. I wouldn’t denigrate them for prioritizing literally anything else in their lives.

I encourage anyone to get involved in mutual aid or even charity networks in their area. Actually meeting and talking with people does a lot to dispel those ‘extremely online’ feelings we get from time to time.

This:

But also, this is the precursor to not just women. The Supreme Court will stop at nothing, than to take as many peoples rights as they can.

Fascist regimes work by going after a minority, then slowly expanding it until only the elite have all of their rights. They started with Trans rights, now they transitioned to women, minorities are next, and then pretty much everyone except the elite will be without rights.

Marriage rights are on the chopping block. But not just LGTQ marriage rights. The Supreme Court could make it illegal in some states to marry outside of your race. This will get increasingly bad, to the point that you will have to prove that you and your spouse are 100% "the same race". It could even get to the fact, that if you are married to someone that is like 10% Latino, you could be thrown in jail. Then we get into a Mccarthy style red scare pulled into a fascist regime.

This effects absolutely everyone, and we all need to see this so we can push back.

If you live in a blue state right now, contact your reps and codify marriage equality period. And push to codify absolutely any basic right you can think of.

In a red state, organize and try to flip the state. There are so many disenfranchised voters that if you can reach them, you can turn the tides. Run yourself if you have to!

I'm trying to remain hopeful. The only thing I can think of right now is hoping that Clarence Thomas gets thrown out of the court when we find out how far his insurrectionist wife's influence actually goes.

But yeah, we need voter reform stat and a way to fix the courts. Until those are addressed we can't do shit given the checks and balances in the system. A liberal president can't run the country on executive actions, and a liberal congress (if that ever happens again in my lifetime) is only going to be able to provide temporary reprieve as laws can be undone via the SC and a party with the persistence to wind a case through the court system.

And the only way we're going to be able to get liberal turnout in some of these states is to fix the voter laws so that people can actually vote. Unforutnately that needs to happen at the state level which is a whole separate kettle of fish than the problems we have nationally.

Now what did Susan Collins say?

Blaming non voters betrays one’s general lack of political understanding of how things developed into this situation over the last 50 years and what demographics usually don’t vote.

Anyway, if I said what I really felt about the people responsible for this, I would [redacted]

Reminder not to give any money to the Democratic party leaders who helped an anti-abortion Democrat win a primary just last week.

look about to say something that's going to get me on some list, if Griswold, Lawrence, and Obergefell get overturned, it's time for the left to exercise their 2nd amendment rights the way their forefathers originally wrote it to be

Are we allowed to acknowledge the reality that organized violence seems to be the only solution. It is what has decided the struggles for countless battles for basic human rights both in America and abroad. We can't just shackle ourselves to the impotence of simply voting and hoping the people we vote for do right by us despite all evidence to the contrary - They don't share our interests, don't value our humanity, have financial incentive to throw us under the bus, and they do not fear us or the consequences of supporting American fascism

And make no mistake, we are IN a fascist regime, not approaching it. fascism isn't coming, it's here and you cannot vote for it to go away

Drones and 3D printers are more affordable than ever. Also, study up on the tactics of the Hong Kong protestors. Those folks know their shit. I'm liking the amount of people I'm seeing in today's protests carrying umbrellas.

And it's only going to get worse as climate change ramps up refugee crises around the world.

The coasts are already crowded and expensive (almost like people want to live here for a reason...) and I can only see it getting much, much worse when half the country is forced to flee their central and southern states in search of basic human rights.

That's assuming federal bans aren't passed and the entire country genuinely burns down around us.

I did a double take yesterday cause first my phone gave me a notification about our government (Germany) abolishing the law that made advertising abortions illegal (advertising as in gynecologists weren't allowed to list the service on their websites and stuff). Which is a good thing in itself. Abortions aren't illegal here until after the 3rd month of a pregnancy, but making the service known wasn't easy. That's just FYI, idk how other countries handle it.

And about an hour later I got the notif for this. Makes you wonder what's going on in the world when two western, supposedly progressive countries make totally opposite decisions on the same matter on the same day...

Outside of things that are illegal to mention here, the best thing to do is organize labor. The only thing the ruling class will be affected by is a general strike.

Forgive me if this is too crass, but Germany already learned their hard lesson on human rights.

We helped teach it and then immediately forgot the entire thing less than a century later.

Not even that, we gave the Nazis their ideas, funded them, then after the war recruited their high ranking officers into our institutions.

That's not even getting into the fact that we have been bar none the most destructive and imperialist country on the global stage post-WW2. And as the old adage goes, fascism is imperialism turned inward.

Scary to think we're now on their path, and if this shit keeps up that soon the world might have to finally find the resolve to 'return the favor'.

I guess you reap what you sow.

Hard not to feel increasingly ashamed.

Don't worry, if there is anything we get taught how to deal with in school it's Nazi/WW2 mentions. And I don't mean the bad way. It's made //VERY// apparent to us that what happened was horrible and must not be repeated (school trips to concentration camp sites are mandatory) so I get what you mean. (We still have extremists ofc and a concerning right wing party but the government tries its best to keep it in check at least.)

I do however hope you won't end up where we did at the end of the day. Not like I was alive to witness it but I guess there are quite a few more steps between making abortions illegal and concentration camps for unwanted ethnic or religious groups. I can only hope at least.
