News Crisis Core –Final Fantasy VII– Reunion announced, coming to PC and consoles on December 13th (UPDATE: launch trailer, see threadmarks)

It's a mockup. Notice how logo's background is still there and no SE and rating logos.

Preorders haven't been opened elsewhere and this particular retailer opened unofficial preorders. We still don't know if there'll be a physical version.

On one hand, it's cool that CC can be played on modern platforms. On the other, I really have many problems with the original: leveling is tied to DMW, 200 mission (90% of them aren't really fun to be honest, also a lot of good equipment is locked behind them), in order to avoid unnecessary random encounters you literally need to glue yourself to the walls, the ending (which is beloved by many) doesn't do much for me (I liked that scene more in the original).

a lot of that is most likely changed. the japanese site hints at there being bigger changes as well

Why are there so much negativity here? The game was great on psp, it will be even better for switch. There you have it :)

Looking into the comments, it seems that some people weren’t too happy with some story elements and the VA’s.

Have to admit, I will play Crisis Core, but the VA… it’s one of the few things I dislike about S-E and their games in general. Script and VA wise it’s always bottom of the barrel. In the FF VIIR, some VA was really rough.

Don’t like VA? Play the game in japanese, its the way developers think of it and used it in mind when they write the script.

If I pick this up down the road (definitely not paying full price for Crisis Core of all things) i’ll definitely be switching to Japanese voices since Zack’s English VA after Remake is one of those Hillsong Church loons.

Damn, really? Where did you see this?

Damn, I almost forgot about it. Damn this year is packed with games for me. And too many games releasing in the last 3 months of the year. I wish we had more releases during summer.

I’ve already said how much I dislike Crisis Core writing (nothing against the visuals and the music, obviously) and I don’t want to pollute this thread with my negativity.

« Spoiler » if you haven’t played FF VII or the OG Crisis Core :

In the PSP version, when facing the Shinra army who is going to kill him, Zack knows he won’t survive but will fight to the end. Ok, fine. But then, he recite his mantra of SOLDIER. You know, the rank given by the very same company who is about to kill him, the same company who, he now knows destroyed and killed so many innocent lives, including his VERY OWN FRIENDS. Oh and yeah, the same company who is about to KILL HIM and is doing very shitty things to HIS GIRLFRIEND.

I hate this characterization of Zack and especially how Square portrayed his final moments.

I’d rather go for the OG FF VII. The scene was extremely cold, no music, and Zack was brutally murdered and the soldiers kept shooting his body after his death, just for fun. It was very dark and IMO, much more impactful than what they did in Crisis Core.

This game made me hate the FF VII expanded universe (already fractured when Advent Children turned Reno into a funny guy. You know, the guy who activated the bombs in Sector 7 and killed thousands of people. He’s actually funny when you know him !

NOTE :
I have the weird feeling that I already talked about this on Famiboards. If so, I‘m sorry and I’ll delete this.

"Throw a new coat of paint but keep the game mostly intact" thing is becoming my favorite way of remastering games. GTA last year, Crisis Core this year.

Next game to get such treatment should be... Kingdom Hearts 1!

Recently replayed the original FFVII so I'm actually pretty excited for this since I never played the original Crisis Core. It looks quite nice graphically as well.

seems to be some fairly decent reworking of combat from what we've seen at least but the new coat of visual and musical paint should be great and I'm sure it will have some kind of cg at the end tying into Rebirth Zack

Mildly interested. The kid really loves FF7, but he's only half of the age rating so yeah, might not be able to play this with him anytime soon =P . Also I'm not sure if I like much of what Square did to FF7 after that original. Sephiroth being prettyboy anime person in this - otherwise great-looking - trailer is giving me pause.

Now I want to see Dirge of Cerberus remade/remastered for HD out of sheer curiosity.

Personally, I think the game that best deserves that treatment is this.

Turns out the game runs at 60fps/720p in handheld mode !

While the PlayStation 5 version certainly ran well - it looks to be 4K60 - what’s far more interesting is the state of the Nintendo Switch release. It retains most of the graphical enhancements of the full PlayStation 5 release, maintains a smooth 60 FPS, and targets 720p in handheld mode. Even with dips, it still never drops to a low enough resolution to be noticeable outside of cutscenes.
The fact that the Switch version is such a solid representation of its bigger brother on PlayStation 5 is still something I'm coming to terms with - I'd even go as far as to say if you have a Switch OLED, that might just be the definitive way of experiencing Zack's journey for yourself.

I hope they show some Switch footage before release. Would prefer to play on it but want to make sure it’s not a dumpster fire.

Tokyo Mirage Sessions did this.
They shown footage in a Nintendo direct and the Switch version was playable at TGS. The game is fine
