Rumour Fire Emblem 18 - screenshots have been leaked (Reddit) (UPDATE: another screenshot leaked, see OP)

Am I the only one that loved the Three Houses art style? I like it when they switch it up between entries, and I forget her name - but she is IMO incredibly talented.

Man the other forum is toxic.

The amount of people that are 'out' over 4 blurry screenshots from an early build sent to Chinese localizers is ridiculous.

I'mma wait for the full reveal before I make any decisions, lol. I trust IS with gameplay and I love Gust's designs generally, so I am still going in with confidence.

Sounds about right for Era.

I remember three houses and how critical everyone was during its offical re-reveal months before launch.

The artstyle was very mixed and folks leaned on the graphics side as bad overall.

Then it just grew on folks and a lot really enjoyed the artstyle. So I’ll wait on this game to be fully shown. Imagine if someone posted 4 old screenshots of three houses before reveal? We’ll be at the same conversation

It’s really hard to even guess the artstyle, the portraits for Supports are 3D models it looks like, as oppose to 2D like usual. And it’s blurry.
yup, does anyone remember this image from TH pre-release

It was absolutely a common criticism and FETH art got a massive amount of backlash. No one talks about it anymore because people played the game and got attached to the characters and now its not a complaint we see much

Do you think there's a chance that this is fake? It honestly looks like a Gust game.
Could be, these kinds of leaks should always be met with a dose of skepticism, but I'm personally leaning towards #TeamReal. There's just too many details in these images (including things that line up with Emily's info, including the hair, the Gust-esque character models, and the "Emblem Ring" on the menu in the first screenshot) to be fake, imo.

Also anyone wanna take a shot at identifying these classes?

Top one is either a new looking Wyvern Rider, or maybe some branching promotion like in Sacred Stones, you know, those had regular wyverns and snake-like ones.

Or it's a Dark Flier, but with a wyvern instead of a Pegasus now?

did you actually read that thread? reactions there are all over the shop, a lot of them positive, a lot of positive discussion about other entries in the series and what elements people hope come back for this game. there's a few criticisms of the character art style but the majority of what negativity there is centers around concerns about perceived lack of racial diversity amongst the cast so far (as compared to three houses) and the extreme level of sameface in the female cast, and concerns over what that might imply for how the female cast are handled (and how badly they're sexualised).

it's totally understandable if you like what you see so far, it's totally understandable to take a wait and see approach. but it seems a little disingenuous to label that sort of discussion "toxic".

If they are out, they were never in to begin with.

I agree that the first one is probably a Wyvern Rider or a new form of Dark Flier with a Wyvern.
Second one looks like a Paladin or a Great Knight.
Last one looks like it could be a Fighter or Berserker.
Third and Fourth look like new classes, so who knows what they're supposed to be.

My only real complaint with the character design so far is that it looks like all the women are suffering from an anime sameface.

This is clearly prerelease and a low quality screenshot at that, plus we're only getting a small window into their character design, so ultimately I'm not concerned.
I see they are going with the Nasu school of character

Hell yeah to a Gust developed Fire Emblem game. We need to know who is the character designer tho, as they usually also hire a new artist for each trilogy.

Not sure how they got the time to do this too with their crazy schedule, this is all they released in the past 3 years.

Nelke & The Legendary Alchemists - January 2019
Atelier Lulua - March 2019
Atelier Ryza - September 2019
Atelier Dusk Trilogy (remasters) - December 2019
Fairy Tail - July 2020
Atelier Ryza 2 - December 2020
Atelier Mysterious Trilogy (remasters) - April 2021
Blue Reflection Second Light - October 2021
Atelier Sophie 2 - February 2022

And they have coming a mobile game (Blue Reflection Sun which could be outsourced) and more planned announcements for Atelier's anniversary this year.

For a split second i imagined a Mana Khemia-style Fire Emblem 2.5D school game

Again, all valid concerns...... For a properly revealed game out of early testing. If this conversations wants to be had at the end of June, go for it. Could be worthwhile.

As for now, I stand by what I said.

my point is that it's unreasonable to label that thread "toxic", because you're misrepresenting it and labeling those valid concerns as toxic. beyond a handful of the usual console warring rhetoric there isn't really much objectionable in there

Top one- ‘maligknight’. Wyvern-riding class with lightning magic. Camilla from Fates, essentially.

Second one- Great Knight. Essentially heavy armour, typically with axes (but can also use others) but cavalry. If it were paladin it would have a lance. Also it fits as the old guy- various senior knight characters end up with this class in previous games, or even start as it. Effectively, it trades paladin’s slightly higher movement and magic resistance for higher defence and weakness to magic. I usually found it a poorer choice compared to paladin.

Third- lord class on foot.

Fourth- some sort of royalty/princess?. Magic/armour (this is a wild ass guess based on the crown only).

Fifth- That’s Anna with an axe, so it’s likely some kind of bandit route, a bit like a thief crossed with a warrior.

Usually I wouldn't judge early leaked screenshots like this at all, but after Echoes and Three Houses I've given up on Fire Emblem. It would need to do something big to win me back - and basically reduce the JRPG parts and return to the more simple, grounded-feeling strategy games we got on GBA. And I can almost see enough from these screens to make me realize that's not gonna be happening here.

Which is fine.

I just realized this may be the first game where Anna is not only playable in the base game, but also has supports with characters that are not the Lord
From the looks of it, it seems like Anna may be a "normal" part of the cast as opposed to a side character you get in a Paralogue like Awakening or a lame no-supports paid DLC character like in 3H? Which would actually make sense given the whole "30th Anniversary" aspect of this game.

She was essentially part of the main cast in Awakening. Tho you did have to do a side quest.

I hate to quote you on two different boards, but Anna could support Tiki in Awakening.
that is true but Tiki was a special case, whereas this dude seems like a retainer knight of the lord and not someone particularly important in the story

Me, TH being my first FE I was anxious I wouldn't like the art style going forward. These shots, while I understand they're from some ancient build if they're real, are...not assuaging those fears. But then I never noticed that Edel and Doro had the same face, or Dimi and Ferdie, so my bar might not be as high as I think it is.

Nice....so in Smash 6 we'll get her, Raven Beak, Sprigatito3, Akira and Noah as newcomers.
As said above, some of these fighters could get phased out pretty quickly. Akira and Noah feel like strong bets regardless of when the next Smash come out, but the other 3 are iffy.

I feel like the next Smash will go in hard on the newer characters Nintendo have created to compensate on how Ultimate looked firmly to the past/fan favs. But as we all know, like the rising of the sun and paying taxes, new Fire Emblem characters in Smash are one of the universes few certainties.

On the hair thing, I wonder if it serves like a marker as to which side of the divide you're leading your character, so the bluer/redder it is, the likelier you are to achieving a certain ending.

I think the hold up isn’t that they’re a Fire Emblem character, but rather that we could feasibly get another new mainline Fire Emblem game before the next Smash. Joy-Con Nahobino might be good news by then, unlike Noah and Akira who probably won’t have been “replaced” by then.

Found a good translation, and my analysis for it:
kv4jc42qxt591.png

gr58292qxt591.png

w73qj52qxt591.png

vsghn72qxt591.png

So for an analysis:

It seems like there will be some sort of day/night system in the game, I do wonder how that will function? Maybe something to do with certain chapters/characters only being available at certain times or something?

We will have some kind of world map, maybe something we can roam around in since the leaker did say it had some concepts from the cancelled Wii FE game. Something like a more advanced SOV.

Crest/Emblem/Wielder's ring is probably the mechanic that allows you to manage the gimmick involving summoning old characters. It seems to be more of a combat thing than a roster thing given that the roster is all new characters from what we've seen.

Base Camp/Intel will probably take us to our hub base for the game as opposed to the World Map.

2nd Image: So Mobu seems to be a Paladin and our black/purple cape Knight hovering over a support with Vandrei who seems to be a Great Knight

Supports seem to be capped out at A and the bigger thing is that Anna has supports with Mobu, meaning she is not limited to no support/only an avatar and Tiki support.

Abby seems to maybe be some sort of Malig Knight or magic based Wyvern class.

WWWWWW is probably Toothpaste-chan and seems to have a unique lord class given its a character that was probably named to test the character limit for localization.

Anna seems to maybe have a new class of an axe-based thief, or she could just be a Brigand.

The Gold Princess on the other hand could be a unique class for this royal female mage character or it could be some sort of special mage class.

3rd image:

Not much to say here since we can barely see the characters faces due to the blurriness of the image and how small they are and we can't glean much from the names.

I will say though Jacoba/Jacob looks nuts, seems to have some sort of face tattoo?

Image 4:

Seems to be a Support between Mobu and Vandrei, autoplay is still mapped to the same button as Three Houses.

I imagine Lord Lumiere may be the protag's father or the king of whatever nation we are from and he dies in the early game. Vandrei was probably his retainer and Mobu seems to be a foreign knight that we recruited.

I’m still not over this trash hair.

Ok so bear with me - what if the hair matches your connected joy-cons? How cool would that be? Or maybe not that cool cause it’s just another form of micro transactions - but cool for us that don’t want whatever this is and have other joy-cons already

I'm not into FE but I'm kinda fascinated by the leak itself. Am I right in thinking this is the first leaked screenshot from Nintendo since BOTW?

I honestly think the hair is fine, its growing on me

Kneel to your new FE lord

More info from leaker on reddit:

Although the hair colors may not fit the recent Three Houses style, they wouldn't necessarily be out of place in other games such as Fates. Take Lilith's also red and blue long hair, or Peri's blue and hot pink twintails for example. However, the new character shown here does have plot reasons for this hair.

I wonder if this game will have some sort of choice (Light Side/Dark Side) mechanic that'll be reflected in Toothpaste's hair color as the game goes on

Your end goal will be becoming a generic blue-haired FE Lord

Honestly don’t hate the two-tone hair, it’s the length that gets me. Give them a short haircut and it looks so much better.

It looks more like a Cape than hair probably because early build, if they improve the looks even if not the length I think it will look really cool, I already really like the design tho
