Here is what I can share about the new Fire Emblem game.

  • Upcoming Fire Emblem is a new game, not a remake. Brand new story.
  • Collaboration between Intelligent Systems, Koei Tecmo and Gust (division of Koei Tecmo Holdings).
  • Gust heavily assisted with the visuals / graphics. Graphics are an improvement over "Three Houses".
  • Originally intended as an anniversary game to celebrate FE's 30th anniversary. The game has been finished for over a year.
  • Main character (main lord) has strange red and blue hair. His mother is a dragon.
  • New "Emblems" gimmick allows players to summon "FE characters from the past" for your squad.

I don't plan to share any more details about this game.

Many months ago, @NateDrake teased about "red and blue".
Everything Nate has teased about the upcoming Fire Emblem game has been accurate.
Please be kind to Nate. His information is good, and he cares about the Nintendo fan community.
Not going to lie, this sounds pretty worrisome to me, specially the last bullet-point.
The "summon FE characters from the past" part sounds fanfic-y. As @Disclaimer said above, this smells like a cross-over mishmash.
Three Houses finally delivered in the writing-part after the 3DS games were laughably bad in that regard, so I hope we don't regress back to that.

Also, I'm new here, so Hi all :)

I mean its an anniversary title, this is the kind of thing you do during those, but I am curious how it will play out

Summoning past characters? So it's a console port of Heroes, then. Hope the protagonist uses a gun in this one too :p

More seriously; sounds interesting but i'm not totally sold on the past characters returning as the big gimmick of the game yet.
The gimmick is worrying in all honestly.

You could do that already in awakening tho so maybe it’s just a extra? Or this game is some kind of multiverse or it’s set in a universe where protagonist collide. I actually think this might be a sequel to a game but suppose to be a surprise.

Also, I think a few of us guess right that red and blue would be the hair lol.

Y’all that don’t know Spanish.

What if the make it like Fates, and you have to buy the version of the hair color you want and it affects the story? You must pick your hair color after chapter 6. FE Crimson Coiffure and FE Periwinkle Pompadour. Surefire way to make some extra sales.

If the next FE has been done for >1 year, then I bet the graphics could be like Three Houses is Pokémon XY/SwSh and this next FE is Pokémon SuMo/SV in terms of graphical improvement

I don't think you necessarily have to opt for something like this just because it's celebrating the 30th anniversary...
I mean you are acting like you know what this is with just this basic info. I agree it could be iffy if executed poorly, but its a wait and see thing

I imagine its been content complete but not done in a literal sense, they are probably polishing

Stop, stop, I can only get so flaccid.

You definitely don't have to, but it makes sense if you're trying to follow the logic for why they'd do that gimmick in a 30th anniversary game.

They probably also see how popular FEH is with older characters, and want to offer something like that.

Honestly I'll be happy as long as it's not gacha. Maybe it could expose newer FE fans to older awesome characters like Soren, Leif, etc etc.

Maybe I'm interpeting too much into this. But "summoning characters from the past" plus Nate's (Or someone else?) info that characters from past games will return is concrete enough to make me worry.
We will see I guess...

oh. There’s already a fire emblem game where the mom is a dragon and the dad has red hair. (Of course that’s assuming IS took the implied ending as canon) lol.

I’m betting this is actually set in the same world as a different Fire emblem game. Or implied to be the same universe. Awakening also already allowed you to summon past characters for your squad so it’s not really new concept. Execution will be different I bet tho

I mean if you are worrying its gonna be gacha I think thats a 0 percent chance lol

I don't really believe they could've ever gotten this out for the 30th anniversary to be honest; at best announced in the same way Three Houses was in 2017. April 2020 - April 2021 is just too soon after Three Houses.

Rest of the info is likely solid but gut feeling tells me the anniversary connection might be more of an assumption on Emily's source based on the past characters returning. Just doesn't add up 🤷‍♀️

the summoning part is....something..
they already have Fire Emblem Heroes to celebrate the franchise and its characters so I don't really see the point in bringing back past characters from different universes especially when it will 100% impact the story. I'm very intrigued now but a bit scared too lol

Aren't we trying to move onward and upward away from the old place? I feel like if Emily and Nate wanted info to spread there, they would post there

Being a gameplay over story kind of guy is a blessing since you don't have to worry about how old characters returning might mess with the narrative, but can instead be happy for more FE gameplay that perhaps even might have a somewhat unique twist mechanically due to the summoning aspect.

We just got some nice info about an exciting new Fire Emblem game. Would suggest focusing on that as opposed to sidetracking this thread into football and language discussions. We already have the Nintendo General Discussion for off-topic banter.

Regarding Fire Emblem, I'm surprised they are seemingly going with the 'summon old characters' angle. Still excited though, I want to see what they can achieve with more time and experience with the Switch from a graphics perspective. Another question is how well the hub/uni worked in Three Houses and whether they will have a replacement or go a different direction.

Brb, manifesting a direct where we see Metroid Prime HD, Fire Emblem, and BOTW 2 trailer + title reveal. Imagine getting just the smallest tease for MP4 as well, my lord this Direct has the potential to be stacked

Thanks for the info Emily and Nate! Also I take it the lack of gender neutral pronouns means no avatar self insert mc which is fine by me- I absolutely hated Byleth- Shez is automatically better for actually having a personality

Not sure I how I feel about the concept not what I wanted out of a FE game but I'll take it.

I feel like the floodgates might open next week with journalists and insiders buzzing about games that might make an appearance. Combined with the potential early release of Nate's podcast episode, we could be feasting as early as next week. Especially if we're also getting Treehouse

Personally, I'm hoping they go all out in terms of free roam exploration; I want to be able to travel to and explore a bunch of different towns and whatnot like a "normal" JRPG. I hope they bring back dungeons like in Shadows of Valentia, too.

Considering Nate's info still points (as far as he has let us know) that the succ is planned to release in this FY, I wonder if it could be announced soon before, or at, this Direct, for a holiday launch. The other alternative would be to announce it in January to release it in March, but that'd be too rushed, they didn't even try that with the Switch, as it was announced months before it's complete unveiling with a video that showed us it's switching capability. Teasing it in October would cut short the OLED sales by an unknown amount, as many OLED sales are to replace old Switches, so people would just rather wait it out a few more months to get the succ, thus I believe that if there is a time to announce it is soon and the launch would probably be this holiday.

Nintendo could get away with the Switch because the Wii U was dead and the 3DS was marketed as a handheld, while the Switch as a home console, thus no overlap, but this time is entirely different, there is an overlap and they'd probably want to keep their sales up during the holidays. We will have to wait and see, but I hope the succ is announced and released this FY.

eh I agree with the general gameplay over story sentiment for the series but there are limits

I liked Conquest but I would have liked it more if the story wasn't a mess

Thanks Emily!
Ugh, I wish you hadn't posted a thread at that other place...

I was hoping to keep it contained in this thread.

With nearing 3000 members and I’m sure many more lurkers, keeping stuff on this forum seems an impossible ask :/

Can't recall this comment about FY, was it in one of the Nate the Hate podcasts?

My bet is also on first half of 2023, just unsure if still in Q1 or April/May.

I’m just excited to see what Nintendo has on the works for us. I think Nintendo normally does a direct when they have just released a game and doesn’t have anything else planned. I am hoping I am wrong but my guess is that it’ll be after the original release date for Splatoon 3 which I believe swapped placed with XB3. But since it is normal for us to get a direct in June the last week makes most sense to me.

It’s a good time to be a gamer :)

Interesting to see they’re walking back on the different routes, because I’m assuming that’s our sole main lord?
Thanks Emily!!

Three Houses' balance between great story, incredible characters and deep gameplay mechanics was perfect to me, I don't miss the Fates era at all

He has commented on this in the HW thread if iirc. He reiterated this in that thread too. Yes, he did a podcast about the Switch successor last year, I believe that's one place where he mentioned it's projected release window, which would be the Oct 2022- Mar 2023. As of now, he has said he has not gotten info that contradicts this. He plans to make a new podcast regarding the succ, but is trying to confirm somethings before so it's not a repeat of what he said last year. We have to consider the dev kits have been out since late 2020 too, and usually devs get those around 2 years before it's hardware releases, as that gives them enough time to make games for that hardware. Delaying the release too much for whatever reason forces them to sit on those games, but no dev has the luxury of being able to do this safely outside of Nintendo currently (the perks of merging their console and handheld pipelines), so it can't be too long for it's release.

This is the reason why I believe it announcement may be imminent, and it could explain why this Direct is so late, outside of distancing themselves from SGS, they could announce the succ 1 week, or days, before the Direct and then announce the Direct date in that presentation, so that they can showcase games running on it for a holiday release. Take this speculation as it is, speculation. Plans change, delays happen, info can be inaccurate and so on, thus this shouldn't give a ton of hope to anyone and may be regarded as wishful thinking, but I don't think it's entirely baseless speculation.

I have a feeling that after this Direct, we'll be revisiting Labrynna and Holodrum.
On one hand, I want a new 2D Zelda so this may be disappointing

On the other, the oracles are the only mainline Zelda besides NES ones that I haven’t finished so

Some spicy new Fire Emblem info? Since the direct is supposedly after the release of Three Hopes, hopefully we get a reveal there

As much as I love the Oracles, too, it's already been almost a decade since the last "new" 2D Zelda.

I'd rather not have to wait for another 5+ years and hope vainly for a new 2D Zelda. And that's speaking as somebody who also has remakes of Zelda 1 and 2 on his wish list!

I mean FE does love its dragon ladies, if one is our Mom this time I imagine she looks like an adult ala Rhea or Adult Tiki

But also the use of male pronouns leads me to think we don't have an avatar this time around.

My main hope is just that we have a fully playable cast and the returning characters aren't the only playable ones besides the MC
