News Persona 5 Royal coming to PS5/Xbox/PC on October 21; Persona 3 Portable, Persona 4 Golden coming soon digitally to PS4/Xbox/PC and Game Pass

Maybe we should wait for the next Nintendo Direct before people start panicking/grumbling on this one. Atlus are a weird company who make odd decisions sure (these games should have been on other consoles years ago if there was no exclusivity deal with Sony), but if the Persona games are coming to pretty much every other console I don't see why they'd miss out on the Switch, given how dominant that console is on Atlus' home turf.

This just seems like a big power play from Microsoft to broaden the Xbox's appeal to gamers with a taste for Japanese games. They knew it would get people talking and speculating. It also serves to help diversify Game Pass further.

It's looking more like Persona 5 Royal is skipping Switch but others will be there next year. We probably won't hear about them until the 2023 release gets closer so as of now there gonna be a lot more waiting.
Whys that?

Atlus can fuck off. At this point even if the games get announced in the direct I'm not buying them or anything else Atlus touches.

The sad part is Nintendo should know how people would react to this shit and instead of having Atlus announce the games early or having a direct close to the announcement. They have to be fucking Nintendo and have their shit two weeks after the fact and that's if the games come at all.

I’m not gonna panic till the direct
Even IF Atlus is keeping the Switch announcement for a Nintendo Direct, this is like THREE separate announcements for the SAME thing.

"Persona 3/4/5 on Xbox and Windows."

One day later.

"Okay, on Steam and PS5."

(Maybe two weeks later in a possible Direct.)

"Okay, okay, Switch as well."

How is this good marketing? How is this not just hilariously super confusing?
I mean same parent company is marketing sonic frontiers and look at that trainwreck. Also could have Nintendo distribution

Tokyo Mirage Sessions Switch port with Joker/P5 DLC outfits announced and released.

Catherine Full Body port announced and released on Switch with Joker/P5 outfit DLC.

Persona 4 Ultimate Arena, a sequel to Persona 4 Golden announced and released on Switch.

Persona 3 Portable, Persona 4 Golden and Persona 5 Royal announced for Xbox consoles (One, Series S/X), PC (Windows/Steam) and PS5. No Switch.

And some people believe that mainline Persona games will be announced at the Direct?

You're forgetting Morgana DLC for Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania. But yes, the whole thing is crazy.

But not uncommon. Both SNK and Namco are refusing to release KoF and Tekken games on Switch despite the fact both have Smash reps.

Ask Soul Hackers 2.

Super happy with the announcement yesterday, but i'm gonna wait for an eventual announcement of the switch version, even if not on the direct. I trust Nate. But if really isn't happening... Well, at least I finally have the option to play persona 5 and 3 on pc after waiting for all these years.

Frustration's fine, but no need to get this worked up, I'd say.

There are two easy possible answers here.

Nintendo holds onto third party release date / platform info sometimes so they can announce it on their own time. Like Dragon Quest III HD 2D. It’s very rare major third party games get their release dates outside of Directs. The Alan Wake port was a recent notable exception.

Alternately, Nintendo and Atlus both simply felt this info would have more impact in a Direct. A lot of people really won’t care once the announcement happens.

Just support the games you want to play and deserve it, if you think Atlus should bring more games to Switch you are not going to help your case by not buying the games when they come. Of course I'm not saying buy Atlus games so they come to Switch, just buy the games you think deserve it, but trying to boycot Atlus makes no sense. In my case even if I have a laptop to play the games I prefer to always play my games on Switch because it's not only being portable that helps me a lot but the hability to Switch between portable and home console, so if a game isn't amazing (or from my fav series) I'm not going to bother if it doesn't come to Switch but if Atlus releases them on Switch I will probably buy them if they are good games like in 13S case
Hey i'm not a Atlus fan by any means, but i've seen countless threads of people asking for it and Atlus saying that the fans have to ask type of answer. Also that freaking joker character ended up in Smash.....

DQ HD2D has no confirmed/announced platforms asdie from saying it's coming to home consoles.

I just have no faith whatsoever.

Them announcing the games for every platform except switch and having a direct this month, this smells direct announcement. They know it's a pretty huge announcement as people having been asking for this a lot in the past years, so it makes sense to have it on a direct. Also, if they indeed are saving this for the direct, I don't see a scenario where they won't announce P5R, Nintendo knows people would get angry as they have the recent announcement of the game for every other platform, so it won't be the great and happy announcement they are expecting it to be at a direct. And we know the engine is compatible as is the same of Catherine Full body.

I know atlus can be pretty illogical some times (although I still think soul hackers 2 will be a late port to promote double dip), but c'mon, they just released Persona 4 Arena on switch, why on earth won't they at least launch 4 golden? And I repeat, if ninty wants this to be announced at a direct, there will be the 3 games.

Everyone, I'm sorry. It seems Atlus is punishing me for playing Persona 2 (I think, don't remember that well which one it was and never finished it) using a fake copy on a PS1 emulator while I was young.
Since I only have a switch they are making sure that I can't play the new games.

If it's of any consolation, I have both a Series X and a PS5, but I refuse to play a 100+hours long jrpg on a non-portable machine. Maybe I should buy a Steam Deck...

I think for peoples' mental health they should just assume that the Persona games are not coming to Switch and then be surprised if they ever get announced. People are putting their stakes into the next Direct but frankly this has been going on for years now. If not this Direct then the next one or the next one. Before the Microsoft presentation, people were so confident that the Switch ports were going to be announced that day and it only led to disappointment. Just move on and if it eventually happens, then great. But it's not worth dwelling on year after year.

After Soul Hackers 2, I’m just not surprised anymore. Yesterday I was surprised that it wouldn’t be coming to PS and Steam but now it makes sense. I hope all their games release on Gamepass from now on cos I’m kinda done paying for their stuff.

What if Xbox and PS get P3-5 but Switch gets Persona 1 and both Persona 2 games

Switch owners would absolutely be the winners in that scenario

Just a small reminder that Humankind (from Sega) is coming to Switch but the initial announcement didn't have Switch as one of the platforms. Keep that in mind.

god it's so funny that atlus has been doing 25th anniversary announcements for like a year and then this shows up at microsoft's show instead lmao

This is exactly where I'm at. After DQXIS, multiple Xenoblades, TMS, Octopath, and even a re-play of the Witcher 3, I've realized that portable consoles are so much easier getting through long games. I actually really liked Greedfall, but I couldn't get more than 10 hours in before giving up.

I just don't have the option to monopolize my apartment's sole television for dozens of hours at a time. There's so many other games to be played so I'm not too bent out of shape (I've just started SMTV!), but this remains a head scratcher.

Words cannot describe how much I despise the way Atlus is handling announcements and platform choices. It's infuriating really.

Yup. Not happening. It's OK. We got a cool joker amiibo and some side games

Nintendo has one of the best JRPGs makers under their umbrella with Monolith Soft and a long-term relationship with Inteligent Systems , it's not like we are in the Wii Era where we got little to none RPGs after 2009, Persona games while good there are not the only modern high quality RPGs

The portable argument is why I get so miffed at Atlus' platform choices. After playing P3P and P4G on Vita I was trained to play their games on the go. At least I have a Steam Deck for P5R in case it never makes it to switch.

I refuse to play JRPGs without a portable option. Luckily Switch is, like, my favorite JRPG platform of all time (Vita is in the discussion) so there are other games. After playing P4G on Vita's OLED, and how Atlus uses color in their games, I would love to play P5 on the Switch's OLED though...

these ain't even modern. the newest game is a 3 year old enhanced version of a 6 year old game. I'd honestly have more sympathy for lacking in newer games

that said, I don't get Atlus, but I've long since stopped trying to understand their process

it aint coming to switch at this point. unless theres another company involved or nintendo/sega shoulder the cost, atlus has very clearly looked at the switch and said "fuck that thing". which is fine i guess, just wish they were more open about it.

There's nothing like ATLUS' utterly baffling decision making to make a man more confident in his Steam Deck purchase

There is a saying, “the squeaky wheel gets the oil.” At this point Nintendo has to stop being nice. They have to call out this and demand better for their fan base. 100+ million console out and publishers are treating those gamers as if they don’t exist. I’m tied of all this “but they would ruin relationships” talk…. Well how are this relationships working out if you just get the scraps while everyone else is eating good?

What is Nintendo even supposed to do about it? Get all pouty and pretend not to know them at parties? They can not "demand" anything. This is a free market, publishers are free to make their own decisions on which platforms to support in whatever way they see fit.

Nintendo either play the game and pay up, or they don't.

Atlus really, really doesn’t want to support Switch with its biggest selling games.

If we are lucky we might see the 3 Persona games on Switch 2 in 2027 after it has been out for a few years though

But Atlus has been supporting switch so long. We got shin megami tensei 3, 5, persona 5 strikers, Catherine and 13 sentinels, and I doubt Nintendo payed anything for them, with the exception of smtV but that was a whole new game. Why wouldn't at least launch 4 golden on switch considering is a vita game and considering also they have just launched the fighting sequel? If the games were Xbox only I would understand the pessimism, but they are launching on every platform, and that's not due to Microsoft money.

I'm no insider, but I really think they will launch on switch, just they probably want to announce in a big way, with much more audience that just a tweet. They know launching these games in a portable system can be huge, they won't be sleeping on this.

It might be a little bit of both but it should be said this is not okay. There are other games that should be on switch that aren’t. Time for Nintendo to say hey let’s sit down and discuss this because our fans deserve better. Put it out there at least so the fans know. They are asking for a lot of money upfront to make this game come to switch. More than we are willing to pay. At least it’s on the table and the community can put pressure on the publishers from there. At some point Nintendo has to get tired of their gamers getting the scrapes. I have a series x and ps5 and some games I won’t play unless they are on switch. Could care less about 4K graphics. There is a real big market for portable AAA games.

Never had the chance to play P4G, but One of my dearest friend says Is One of the greatest JRPG of all time. Can't way to play It on gamepass, finally.

revealing deals like that would be a surefire way to never get anything again

If you are looking for portable AAA gaming, Switch (and even its successor, really) likely won't satisfy your needs. It is great for AA and indie games. It is also great for ports of PS3/X360 era AAA games, as long as publishers are willing to bring them. Barring the occasional miracle port, anything more recent than that will likely always be more of an exception rather than the norm, unless publishers all of a sudden decide they don't want to keep raising the bar on a technical level and transition to developing with Nintendo hardware as the lead platform.

That is a different conversation altogether, though.

I know people are trying to look for a silver lining with xCloud (mobile ) versions of these games, but afaik, xCloud still doesn’t support sleep mode or quick resume. There’s a LOT of time between save points in these games. Being on a dedicated handheld just makes more sense.

Nintendo should reschedule their entire planning and contracts with all other third parties just to adapt to Atlus. Sure. They should broadcast the Direct in the peak of the promo for Mario Strikers and FE3H so that they can take all the attention away from those games, etc. Sure.

I understand Atlus' strategy for these announcements may be frustrating, but c'mon...

Nah if you lucky you’ll see all three games announced yesterday on the cloud joining KH collection because reasons
