News Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2 releases on Switch June 8th (update: Restored Content DLC cancelled)

YESSSSS! Was hoping for this to get announced at the June direct. It seems that exclusive ports on switch are working well, as this is the third in a row.

This is good news, but the launching timing is rubbish for me. The fact that the restored content is coming later as DLC also means I won't buy on day one; but I do look forward to eventually having this on Switch. KOTOR kicked off my 2022 on Switch so having the sequel to play later this year, plus restored content for the first time for me, is good.

Oh damn they're adding the restored content? KOTOR 2 was an ambitious but highly flawed game, but I hear that the restored content really kicks it up a notch

it's a fan mod that Aspyr took up. all the content is in the game already anyway
This.

Allegedly the concept of releasing it as a patch/DLC was something Obsidian themselves was considering back when it first launched, but it was dropped by Lucasarts because the Xbox version wouldn't be able to receive it (This was when Xbox Live support had to be directly integrated into the game for it to work, as there was no marketplace accessible through the dashboard.)

Good, good…

Still have to pick up KotOR1, but this will make a fine addition to my collection. Haven't played those games in a long time.

File size is 15.8 GB, I don’t know much about these games but it’s pretty crazy how much space they take despite being from the 6th gen. I thought my 200 GB SD card would be enough for every game on my radar, I guess I’ll have to uninstall Fortnite and other mid stuff

Will definitely pick them up eventually, those games had a lot of hype and would somewhat fill my WRPG blindspot. Crazy how many former Xbox (console) exclusives Switch end up getting. Apparently the first game on Switch only had this huge textbox problem that has been patched, will for sure pick it up on the next sale/when I’m done with what I’m currently playing

I loved the first one back in the day, can't remember if i played the second one to the end.
I'll pick it up after the restored content is launched, maybe even on a sale because i want to focus on Xenoblade 3 when it releases 🙂.

Really happy both KOTOR games are on the Switch now. However, I have gotten so used to installing certain mods, it feels weird playing vanilla :D the restored content is nice though.

First game is also over 12 GB. I know they used AI upscaling on the textures, not sure but maybe the FMV as well. Anyway, that's probably what's to blame for them being 3-4x the size of the old Steam versions.

I wonder how well the Star Wars games are selling on Switch. I do hope that Rogue Squadron games are next in the porting pipeline
very well according to the eshop threads on installbase. when they released they sit on the charts for a while. KOTOR in particular lasted a good while

I guess they will port Force Unleashed 2 by fall, and then the PS2/XB Battlefront 1/2 titles somewhere in 2023. Don’t think they will touch the old NES/SNES era games. A little redundant to port the old Lego Star Wars games with how well packed the lastest game is.

And after I can see re-releasing the Rogue Squadron titles, like in 2024 or so. Its a little shame EA isn’t interested in porting the modern PS4/XBO era titles like Battlefront, Squadrons or Fallen Order.

I didn’t realize or had forgotten that the switch of 1 got upgraded textures from the Steam release. That’s pretty cool.

This is exciting. I was bummed that KotOR II wasn't available like fifteen minutes after finishing the first one for the umpteenth time.

Gimme that HK-47 factory, baby.

They have a digital bundle of both games but no discount at the moment. Love both games but have a ton of backlog so I’ll wait for a sale

Got to play the prologue and a bit into Peragus. This game immediately sets a mood.

For my money, Obsidian are far and away the best RPG devs out there and have been for a couple of decades now.

Woah, didn't realise it was out today. I think I'm going to wait until the Restored Content DLC releases, though.

some reviews for the switch version

Q: What is included in this DLC?

A:
The DLC is restored original content that was cut from the original release and includes additional missions, dialogue options, encounters, and more! Here is a full breakdown of what's included in this free DLC:
  • New HK Manufacturing Plant Mission - Play as your droid companion HK-47 and explore a mysterious HK Manufacturing Plant beneath the Telos military base.
  • New Revamped Ending - Experience the final level in a new way, with greater interactions from your party members and added focus on your past choices.
  • Livelier Crew Conversations - Get to know your crew on board the Ebon Hawk even better with additional lines of dialogue and interactions.
  • Bonus Quests & Challenges - Discover even more quests and combat encounters scattered on various planets around the galaxy for an extra challenge.
Q: Will I be able to continue my save once I've downloaded this DLC?

A:
Base game save files will not be compatible with The Sith Lords Restored Content DLC but players can access any previous save files by disabling the DLC content in the in-game main menu.

Q: When will this DLC be available?

A:
This DLC will be released in Q3 2022. You can click the “follow” button at the top of this article to be notified once we announce the official release date.

it seems like the restored content DLC might have been quietly cancelled. as the trailer upload on Aspyr's Youtube channel was updated to remove all mention of it.

there's speculation that it might be tied to financial issues relating to the team's problems with getting the remake of the original game off the ground. (it's rumoured to have been moved to a different developer.)

edit: Aspyr made an official statement right as i was making this post, whoops. ↓

Nothing quiet about it

I’m bummed. Now I should’ve grabbed it on sale for a force awakens code. Oh well hopefully we get more ports with less issues, bring on Racer’s revenge, bounty Hunter and Bombad racing

So uh. Republic Commando or the Force Unleashed? Also I should probably wait to make sure they’re not revoking the KotORII licenses with this cause I’d rather keep it.

Force unleashed is rad, it’s completely different from the HD version and has a cool multiplayer arena mode(one was powerstone and one was smash but I can’t remember which was which between 1 and 2)
Edit:
1 was open arena with like every character in the game and then some.

Nah. Apparently the source of that "restored content" is anonymous and Disney blocked the launch of dlc until the author is found. Looks like they couldn't identify the person.

I don't think Aspyr is experiencing financial issues. They're owned by Saber and Saber is owned by Embracer. Embracer has more than enough money. It's more of a creative issue.
