Aw jeez, is it that time again?

Why yes my fellow Fami's, it is time. With Nintendo revealing dates for several summer-ish games, it might be time to get all Direct speculation in one place.

If you are possibly new to Famiboards, here's the quick idea behind this thread. Over several messageboards and a decade's worth of Nintendo Direct presentations, a bunch of enthousiastic fans (or in other words, people watching Nintendo's twitter account like a hawk) created the Nintendo Direct Speculation thread. It's a place where we post our hopes, dreams, fears or complete non-sensical opinions on our favourite Kyoto based gaming company. A shout out towards @Raccoon, he was the first to create the orginal thread here in our little corner of the internet.

So this is part 2...

Yes. This thread will be used to speculate about the next Nintendo Direct showing. When the Direct is finally announced I think it would be for the best to close this one and continue in the Direct presentation thread. Why I created part 2? Well, it's going to be a weird year. With the Covid-19 pandemic seemingly slowing down, we still have to deal with the many aftershocks it created. In regards to the industry, the ESA cancelled E3, even as a digital event. Yes, we know, Geoff Keighley jumped in pretty quickly to fill in the void with with a new Summer Game Fest for this year but with E3 gone for this year it makes for an interesting question; what will Nintendo do? Well, for the last couple of weeks thanks to Twitter Directs we have a good idea where they will be heading for the next three months. But still... Nintendo remains a mystery and will still have some surprises up their sleeves.

A quick summary of what's coming

LET'S GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I speculate that Fire Emblem will be revealed in the summer Direct, along with a new Mario to coincide with the Mario movie release

I also believe that Everybody's Switch will not be present in an upcoming Direct, following suit with the developers other titles (Labo, Game Builder Garage, etc) being revealed via Twitter drops

Hmm...I'm not sure if we are getting a Direct anytime soon but if we do I think it will be your typical June Direct. In terms of new announcements I expect Metroid Prime 1 remake/remaster, New Fire Emblem and some major 3rd party games such as FF9 remake.

will another game be crossed off after the direct y/n?

DISCLAIMER: this is just a list of the notable first-party wii u games, with the ones that are available on switch, or the ones that don't need be ported because a sequel makes them unlikely to come to switch (splatoon, smash, mario maker) crossed out. it doesn't mean splatoon 2 or smash ultimate are ports, and also doesn't mean everything has a chance of getting ported (nintendo land, kirby).

I desperately need a Mario vs DK game on Switch, I've always loved that kinda puzzle style

Where's my new Advance Wars release date? C'mon Nintendo

I was thinking about this just yesterday. But yeah, Nintendo's been pretty consistent with showing these kinds of more casual games outside of Directs. Even Ring Fit was a Twitter drop IIRC

I'd love something NES Remix-esque on Switch

I'm still on the "usual June Direct" train for now. There's still a lot to talk about for post-July and I don't think they'd wait until July to do so, so no real reason to not just use the usual time slot, E3 or no E3.

Reasoning that's predicated on assumptions about what Nintendo wants to show and when is flaky. I would say that the strongest reason to expect a June Direct is that it was most likely the original plan with E3, and their plans needn't change without it.

That said, they could have a reason to favor May or July, but I really doubt it, personally.

Advance Wars is a. “It’ll happen when it happens”.

It’s tone deaf to ask for an announcement.

  • May Direct Probably still more likely in June tbh, but you never know with Nintendo 👀
  • New mainline FE revealed for late this year, maybe October, developed internally by IS w/ Gust providing some kind of support, graphics/presentation/productions values are great, game just looks amazing and ambitious in general
  • Prime HD revealed, coming in late September
  • New trailers for Bayo 3, Xenoblade 3, Splatoon 3, Your Mom 3, small trailer for FEW: Three Hopes, maybe a new trailer for Mario + Rabbids 2 (which I'm predicting for August btw)
  • Pikmin 4 revealed for 2023, looks really pretty as you'd expect from an EPD game
  • New BotW2 trailer/blowout, subtitle finally revealed
  • A bunch of JRPGS that people whine about
  • A bunch of random 3rd party ports
  • Maybe one last MHR: Sunbreak trailer?
  • Hopefully some meaty treehouse segments, regardless of whether the Direct is in May or June

Boom, there's the Summer Direct.

I'm predicting the chaos route, a Direct in early July. May makes no sense anymore with the recent trailers and June is packed with releases. Early July has nothing.

You forgot Mario a Rabbids since Nate said he heard it’s still on track for this year after the Zelda delay

Bet we get Mario Party Superstars DLC revealed here.

Also the new Donkey Kong game that ya'll are all too scared to believe in.

Advance Wars August, NSO GB September, Bayonetta October, Pokémon November, Mario + Rabbids December.

1-2-3-4-Switch will be this year but not at not-E3. No idea on other games but I do hope we see Donkey Kong, Pikmin, Prime, Fire Emblem, Style Savvy, Rhythm Heaven and Nintendo Land. And BOTW2's title. And a Kirby pink G&W!

We are long overdue an NES Remix port.

Port Woolly World (again, I mean)!

I am stunned that XCX is still marooned on WiiU. Genuinely would not have believed you if you told me that it was still there while something like Wonderful 101 made it off.

Maybe Nintendo is trolling everyone and will release XCX on Switch as both the last possible WiiU port and the last mainline Switch release in 2025 or whatever. It's gonna be chaos when they port Devil's Third in early 2024 just to screw with everyone.

I'm content with Zelda WW/TP HD, Metroid Prime HD, Xeno 3, Splatoon 3, and Bayo 3 getting a proper release date this year. Fire Emblem or anything else would be icing.

That Fire Emblem remake announcement would be very nice. Let the year of the SRPG continue...once more. :p

And whatever happened to that rumored Resident Evil Switch exclusive game (Outrage)?

Bayonetta 3 release date announcement and trailer blowout followed by a demo on eShop would be fantastic.

Of course the more Zelda on Switch, the better, so bring us those ports. Metroid Prime 1 will be a day one buy as well.

Panzer Dragoon Zwei remake should be shown soon too, I'd hope.

Wouldn't be surprised if (and would rather like it if) Star Fox Zero gets ported at some point.

One final request: come on Fatal Frame/Project Zero, let's see more ports and a new game, Tecmo!
