If Evening Star isn't involved, hopefully Sega licensed the Retro Engine from them if these are native ports like Iizuka stated.

Either that or get M2 to do it.

Hoping these versions have the drop dash, like the M2 Sonic 2 version.

I'm so unusually hyped for this solely for the Sonic 2 port alone. Never cared for 1, 3&K or CD.

But Sonic 2 up until Metropolis is incredible and basically a perfect game.

I'm stupid, I thought this was the new 3D Sonic and got hyped. It still looks nice though

Ideally, they should just have everything. Drop Dash, Spin Dash, Peel Out, Tails, Knuckles, etc.

To me, the main things to wait and see about boils down to two main facets:

1) The fate of Sonic 3's music
2) Playable Amy

The former is likely a foregone conclusion at this point. In other words, I wouldn't expect "Hard Times" for Ice Cap. But the latter is something I imagine is both possible and would sweeten the pot. Especially since fans have hacked in a fully-realized and playable Amy in the ROMs for quite a while now, and Whitehead and co. likely are fully aware of such.

My daughters would be overjoyed to play as Amy

I'm still bitter about this not having Chaotix. It's the only classic Sonic game that has never been available digitally.
I'm not bitter as it's an expectation of mine over the years, but it would've been a nice bonus.

I have a pipe dream they'll in some fashion insert the Beta versions of songs that were discovered for Sonic 3 back in 2019. I know Sonic 3 AIR exists but it would be really cool if they added it as an option.

Other than that, just expecting widescreen support for S3&K and that's it!

Interested to see what they do with the music for S3&K. Part of me hopes the lack of news is because they've been working to sort out the rights issues, as I do prefer those tracks to the prototype ones. But realistically I'm expecting the prototype tracks since that whole legal quagmire is probably not worth the time and money to resolve :/

That said, I did warm up to the prototype tracks after hearing the original Mega Drive versions, rather than the awful MIDI ones from the PC port. Even if, by some miracle they managed to sort out the music from the original release, I'd like to see the option there.

I'm gonna buy a Sonic collection again even if I don't like Sonic and have never finished the games the other times I've bought, won't I.

Playable Amy is a MUST!

I'll also pay for Ray and Mighty DLC, no questions asked.

Yeah, if it came to it, I'd pay for DLC that had Ray, Mighty, Vector, Espio and Charmy fully playable, and also introduced "Sonic Heroes Mode" (3 character teams with real time switching, like in the Sonic 2 Heroes hack).

Dreading whatever solution they came up with Ice Cap music but mostly just happy to see 3&K rereleased again after over a decade.

And about the key art...the only thing that's new is the logo. We got a "Mario Party using stock art" situation at the moment:

So the wait for more substantial information continues.

Dang, and no one else here really noticed. It's still some nice art though.
It is! Very good stuff. It's apparently used for, like, advertising the series to businesses looking to collaborate with Sega, so it's not the most well known thing. Pretty wild how even the background is being reused. Or perhaps they were all made at the same time, trying to unify the Classic brand?

That artstyle is seriously tickling my nostalgia bone. I remember scouring the late 90s - early 00's internet for Sonic stuff and finding a lot of the Japanese promo art from the 90s that was close to this style. 💙

Is Yakuza that good, or am I in the Twilight Zone?
Yakuza is the genuinely the best video game series of all time in my opinion. I have thought about Yakuza Zero (my first) literally every day of my life since I played it at launch over 5 years ago and I owe that game a LOT. You should check it out!

Yes, yes it is.

Both Yakuza series, that now will continue as turn based rpgs, and Judgment (I am now playing and absolutely LOVING lost Judgment). It’s gotten to the point that I have to seek out everything they make. Spin offs, imports, remasters… I waited to play Lost Judgment as long as I could, so I could savor it’s awesomeness and I am terrified to once again have no RGG studio game to play.

But it’s not just their games. I looked at my recently bought games the other day, and it’s more and more Sega or Sega related stuff. Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne remaster, Two Point Hospital, Puyo Puyo, Humankind and Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania.

is this just another sonic collection?

why are people hyped about another sonic collection?
S3K finally being ported after being locked in rights hell alongside S1, S2 and CD being based on the much loved mobile ports (widescreen, smoother rotations in special stages, additional playable characters and other goodies). CD was ported to consoles/PC, but S1 and S2 remain mobile exclusive.

It's the first time in a long while Sonic 3 & Knuckles has ever be rereleased, and these are native ports and not emulation, meaning they'll have modern features (as 16:9 was already confirmed);

And besides, if we're not getting a Sonic Mania sequel, this is the best we can get from SEGA.

In addition to the things others mentioned, it'll be on Switch. All that's on Switch right now are mediocre emulations (I think) of 1 and 2. This is the whole Genesis series (with CD!!!), ported to run natively, in 16:9, in one package. That hasn't been done before, and as long as they don't bork it this has potential to be the definitive way to play each of these games (depending on how you feel about the handful of Jackson's/Buxer's tracks in Sonic 3, which afaik haven't even been confirmed to be removed by anyone other than Zippo).

Also the Sonic social media manager referred to "Sonic 3 & Knuckles" when talking about the games being in 16:9, and while I don't want to read too much into that it might mean Origins will have the full, combined version of Sonic 3 as it was originally intended to be before it outgrew the cartridge, as opposed to the two separate parts like the Xbox/PS2 collections had. Which would be rad.

yeah, do not dis the M2 S1 and S2 currently on switch. taxman versions will be much appreciated but it's not like we're left suffering without them

The original tracks are the MJ ones, right? There are legal issues surrounding them now? Have the last rereleased of Sonic 3 use the PC songs instead?

last time Sonic 3 & Knuckles was rereleased was 2011 on Steam. We don't know the full picture how the music rights are, but Michael Jackson dying a few years early and SEGA avoiding using these tracks even when referecing Sonic 3 in any capacity (Generatons, Mania, and so on) surely is not coincidental.

Note that not every music in the Sonic 3 soundtrack are supposedly his (or Brad Buxer's) compositions;
