Xbox Microsoft Xbox Discussion |ST|

Ever since the Switch launched and Xbox Gamepass became a thing, I feel like I'm as into video games as I was in the Ps1/Ps2 years. Seriously, last gen I was telling myself I was "over" console gaming.... what a dummy lol.

TBH the only bad thing about Game Pass is that it can sometimes feel like you have too many choices at times. But that's absolutely not a real problem.

Getting my Series S has really helped with that since it filters out what you have installed vs what is accessible via game pass. When I was playing via streaming I always had choice paralysis if I scrolled past "recently played"

Although, I wish there was an option to keep uninstalled games in your library too like on Switch because I like looking back at my played list, I guess that's what my achievements page is for haha

So that Psychonauts 2 is pretty damn good, huh? Enjoying myself with it.

Saying a temporary farewell to Game Pass once I'm done with that, though. With Lost Odyssey installed on my Series S, and with Dungeon Encounters and Ocarina underway on Switch and No More Heroes 3 to play, I don't know when I'll next get around to a Game Pass game. Especially not with Kirby and Triangle Strategy in March and Pokemon Legends sounding tempting.

Similar with me and console gaming, during the PS4/Xbone era I got way more into PC gaming because it was just a much better experience. But now with Series X and Game Pass, I find it much more enjoyable to play in front of TV most times except for PC only games or games that you can mod on PC.

Hey all!

I’m after some fairly quick advice please

I’ve just bought a second Xbox Wireless Controller for XS online but I can’t work out if I need to also purchase a second play and charge kit to power it or not?

I see it has a USBC port built in, but is this to charge it or merely so I can use it plugged in to the console?

I’m very confused and can’t seem to find a solid answer online so was hoping some kind Famiboxer (?!) might be able to help?

Okay I've just finished Halo Infinite and it was a pretty good experience but it feels like unfinished? It looks more like a big introduction for what's coming next than the big campaign that they teased. I haven't played Halo 5 but it may be my least favourite campaign since Halo 3. I've so much memories of Halo 3 and Reach campaigns.

I have a feeling a lot was cut from the game.

You can use it without a battery, just plug it into the console.

Thanks!

But if I want to use it wireless I need the play and charge kit?
Yes can just use 2 AA batteries. If you bought a new controller, it includes 2 AA batteries in the box.

I ended up buying a pack of enerloop rechargable AA batteries and they have been pretty great.

I’ve been trying to get into the groove of enjoying games and not worrying about investing. I renewed two years worth of game pass and played forza horizon 5 all weekend. Game was fantastic.

I got some game pass games downloaded like hitman and prey but I’ll probably play psychonauts 2 next

I'm currently playing Prey and it's such a fantastic game. Everyone praise Arkane Lyon's works but I find Prey an even more better game than all the other Dishonored games.

Being a Nintendo only gamer since 2017, Gamepass is helping me to play a lot of games that I missed ! after Prey I'll probably go with Psychonauts 2, Doom Eternal or FFXIII-2.

halo and gears are both in a weird place where instead of purchasing (or just striking a deal with) the studios that made those franchises great in the first place, Microsoft created ancillary teams to make some sequels, and they are predictably missing the spark of the 360 generation games

both, imo, need a reboot of some kind. we have been shooting grunts for 7 games

Decided to give Control a go since it's leaving Gamepass only to find that it's just the last-gen version?

I just went and bought the Ultimate Edition for a tenner on sale instead, and the game is terrific and well worth that, but it strikes me as kinda disingenous to only have the last-gen version on GP.

Just one of the many baffling decisions on 505 Games's part regarding Control. I love love loooove Control, I had a hell of a great time.

Finally returning to Infinites singleplayer after grinding multiplayer events

How can they create such a massively beautiful world yet not have more multiplayer maps ready lol

Control is pretty good, I bought the UE last year but I still don't finish it yet, but I will mess a bit with the vanilla game before leaves Game Pass for some easy early achievements, 50 points each day yeah!

I want do the same for Code Vein, but holy shit the game feels off, specially to someone like me who loves Souls games.

Code Vein is competent but it really shows how hard it is to make a game as good as Dark Souls. They're not on the same level.

Plus the female character designs are near-universally awful. Love my strong female characters to wear tattered rags that barely cover their chest.

The main thing Game Pass (and my Series S) has done has been to push me to avoid buying non-Nintendo games and work on my backlog. To be fair, I don’t regret supporting the devs of games like Death’s Door through purchases, but there is a bit of a sting when the games I bought show up on GP. (To be fair, instant resume makes playing on Xbox Series more pleasant than PC.)

Conversely, there’s been a real lack of new games on the service that interest me, and that doesn’t look like it’ll change soon. The next big name, Starfield, is nine months away. :/

Halo Infinite really doesn't make sense. They have done so right with nice gunplay, a pretty good single player. But man, everything else is so rough.

I jumped back into Splatoon 2 recently, and it honestly is so much better. Much more visual variety, especially with clothing, better variety of weapons, maps, and modes too. I think I am really done with Halo Infinite for good.

How do I make profiles for Xbox 360 BC games on a Series console? I have one from my 360 days, but I want to play Puzzle Fighter in local co-op, and that requires two Xbox 360 profiles. Creating a new profile on Microsoft.com or in the Xbox Series dash doesn’t propagate down to the 360’s emulated environment, instead erroring out when attempting to “download profile” in the virtual 360 dash.

Finally returned to halo infinite to knock out the single player and jesus. I'm in what I assume is the final stretch (Nexus) and this feels like a never-ending string of fan-made forge levels tbqh. Big "ship this now" energy.

Feeling very targeted with this promotion - my main two stress relievers are doing my nails and playing halo these days lmao. Ordered.

For some weird reason my Xbox Dashboard had a link for the new Destiny 2 expansion in Italian today. I went to it out of curiosity and it played the trailer also in Italian.

What's weird is that I'm in the UK and my Xbox has only ever been set to English. A glitch I'm guessing, and obviously a harmless one, but curious all the same.

Honestly, if it weren't for Gamepass and all of the games on there, I would have deeply regretted getting an XBSS. I have no idea how or why it got the reception it did looking back at it. Especially after playing the original trilogy, everything about Halo Infinite is really undercooked. Maybe Halo 5 was so bad, anything would have seemed to be a huge improvement. It really doesn't even hold a candle to any of the other games released in 2021, that's for sure.

Forgive my ignorance here, but how does playing Microsoft Flight Simulator via the cloud work? Is it essentially streaming the game from one's Xbox, or am I mistaken? I recall I had to delete the game from my Xbox hard drive because as you mentioned, that 100gb install is quite a large one!

No sweat! You can stream via many sources across PC, Mac, iOS, Android or Xbox. In my experience it works best streaming to console though, they all use different streaming techs that have their own quirks and the console one via ethernet has been beautiful for me.

Thanks @totofogo ! I should be good with my Series S, then! Excited to finally take to the skies! :D

As an aside for everyone, here are the Games With Gold for March!

You still have time. The first chapter/route/ending is only around 8 hours long, and the whole game 20ish.
oh damn I thought it was much longer – how much for full completion?

20ish hours was for fully completing all the “replays” of the game and obtaining the true ending. I guess it’s longer if you want to get all the joke endings, collect every item, do every side quest, and level every weapon up to its maximum, if that’s what you mean.

FAR Changing Tides is probably the next game I'm going to play, loved the first one. GOTG is such a good addition as well.

I still have KRZ ready to play on my Switch but never quite got round to it - now I have to decide if I play on there or Xbox...

Jesus this looks outstanding. The wait for it to come to Xbox is going to be brutal.

Given the lengths Microsoft has gone to get the entire Yakuza series on Xbox I'd like to see them partner with Sega to remaster Kenzan and Ishin and launch them day one on Game Pass.

Between this and 343, I"m getting less confident about how Microsoft handles their studios after acquiring so many...

All former employees VGC spoke to said they were surprised at how lenient Microsoft had been over the lack of progress.

Edit: hm or perhaps not

It sounds like Microsoft is going maybe too far in the opposite direction. You’ve gotta have SOME timeline requirements.

Leaving Soon

It’s time to give a proper Game Pass farewell to the following games leaving soon. You still have time to make a dent in these games or wrap up where you left off before they go. As always, remember to use your Game Pass membership discount to save up to 20% on your purchase to keep them in your library.

Leaving March 31

  • Madden NFL 20 (Cloud, Console, and PC) EA Play
  • Narita Boy (Cloud, Console, and PC)
  • Shadow Warrior 2 (Cloud, Console, and PC)
Leaving April 11

  • Destiny 2: Beyond Light, Shadowkeep, and Forsaken (PC)

Starfield, Next ES and Fable. Cant wait for those blockbusters. People hate Fable 3 but the idea of changing the world by good or evil decisions was just brilliant. Hope the next Fable will implement this again.

The Nonary Games (999 and Virtue’s Last Reward) are must-plays for anyone who appreciates story-driven games.

I don’t have an Xbox anymore, but I came to say that anyone who has Game Pass should give The Nonary Games a shot — they’re fantastic.
