Game looks incredible and is a hard day one but I don't expect to be able to talk about the game itself thanks to Atlus' wonderful strategy.

It looks great. It won't sell well in Japan, but at least I'll probably still enjoy it.

Dang it, that means I'm not playing this. Why you do something like this Atlus...

I do hope someone comes out and announce some good stuff for Switch, the third party games it has right now are not enough for me...

Nice, Steam. Will get it there then. Probably in the future when it’s discounted though. I still haven’t gotten to SMTV yet.

funny it's not on Switch cause just from the visuals, it really looks more like a game that would've been built ground-up from the Switch.

few gameplay bits actually look a fair bit worse than SMTV at a glance which is quite something. might be running on P5 engine and using those same models?

As expected, looks like a rebranding inpired by Persona's success. At this point they should have dropped the "2" and just called it "Soul hackers".

I'm cool with it being more like Persona as long as that doesn't mean the game has bigotry in it.

No Switch is weird but not unexpected coming from Atlus. Good luck selling that in Japan.

If Nintendo wants to diversify their console library, they must expand big time. Third party seems to want to avoid at all costs bringing games to Nintendo platforms. They will ignore unless Nintendo is willing to pay for it.

Its a shame, but it its what it is.

If not even a 100 million consoles that is still selling like hot cake can change their kind, nothing ever will.

At first I was okay with it not being on Switch until I saw the trailer. There’s no excuse to make a game that looks like that graphically and NOT have it on Switch.

I’ll get it on Xbox I guess.

I'll pick it up on PC, but yeah it makes no sense that this is not on Switch, it does not look to intensive graphically at all and is using the same engine/models most likely as SMT V.

Also this is the TMS crew making the game

It's most likely late port but Atlus going after the double dip money by not announcing it with the other platforms is just lame.

That's just Atlus being Atlus, though. It's pertty rare for a new cross gen game not be on the Switch these days.

Re-post of what I said in the reveal thread:

The fact that it somehow skips Switch is bizarre, but that a Soul Hackers sequel looks like a TMS sequel is downright disappointing. This is not what I wanted from a Soul Hackers sequel 😭😭😭

Looks very different from the original Soul Hackers! Not getting any of those grimy 90s cyberpunk vibes, which is too bad. I loved playing through the 3DS port of the original.

It does look pretty cool despite that! Looks very stylish. I'll definitely be checking this out on my PS4!

So this is really Tokyo Mirage Sessions 2 using the Soul Hackers brand instead.

I'm sure this will launch on switch as a late port. It has absolutely not sense, even by the atlus standards, to not having this in the dominant console in Japan.

This is mindboggling - How did this not get announced on Switch.
There's nothing visually in that trailer that suggests this wouldnt run on Switch.

Gotta leave a platform out so that they can have a updated port a year or two later with Mysterious new female character, as is the atlus way.

this better be the last time they reuse these models. that shit was old in SMTV let alone another new game. the whole appeal of this series is seeing cool new monsters and that aspect is almost gone now.

Switch version mostly likely to come later, Atlus avoiding announcing it now for the double dip sales. This is becoming an ugly trend these days: Alan Wake, Prince of Persia, Life is Strange games...

Skipping the one 9th gen console that is seemingly all that exists in Japan rn is a bold move for a Japanese company.

between this and the the latest (great) Direct (with its absolute lack of any meaningful third party effort) I'd say that in-between the skepticism pre-launch and the almighty new gen consoles already in the market...welcome back, good ol' Nintendo (first party + indie) console...

Woooooo! I can't wait!

Seems like they're taking a "Persona with adults like Persona 2 was" direction, I like it and am curious what the English trailer will say in a few minutes. I wonder if it's using UE4 or not. Having the party members use demons like that actually reminds me of fighting Raidou in Nocturne, how he just summons the demons for attacks rather than them being a consistent thing you have on the board.

Also they dropped the Devil Summoner from the name, but I heard it still mentioned in the trailer. God this looks so fucking good!

???

They released like 5 PS2 games using the same demon models from SMT Nine, more if you count expansions. Atlus are known for getting the most of their assets.

And welcome back my crippling depression...

Almost feels like Atlus trying to chase Persona-money by reviving the Soul Hackers IP infused with some TMS.

... I know I sound salty. It's because I am 😭

The art style is really killing the game for me, damn. It barely feels connected to og Soul Hackers at all.

The TMS connection does excite me a bit though, I loved how that game played.

They reused the PS2 models for years and the demon roster in the DS/3DS games were mostly existing art. They're going to be using these models for a long time.

Well, I'm not going to make any predictions anymore.

That said, day one on Xbox. I always try to support JRPGs and Japanese games in general when they come out on the console. Also, this kinda sorta means there's a more than zero chance that a hypothetical Shin Megami Tensei V port hits Xbox which excites me greatly.

these aren't the same models as far as i know. SMTV had new ones. these seem like P5 models

Imagine if Atlus makes the most Atlus move ever and announces it for the Switch on the west only in one minute lol

I’m going to play the heck out of this, it looks fantastic. Especially what looks like Mira Shirow character designs. The lack of a Switch version is a head scratcher though.

From the brief combat footage they have shown it looks like party members attack with weapons so i'm not sure where the demon summoning part comes into play.

Demon fusion is in anyway, so maybe the skillset changes depending on which demon is equipped on the character? Unless they are just taking the Persona route, which would be a bit boring imo
